10441  The Rest / General Discussions / Terrorist plot barely prevented; Airlines disallow liquids on: August 10, 2006, 10:50:44 PM
Better safe than sorry, I guess. Still though, I don't like the idea that even /liquids/ are banned, but I can't really argue for anything beyond something like installing vending machines on a plane, and it honestly doesn't affect me directly anyway since I don't fly in airplanes much, not to mention it's probably a temporary measure.

Still though, the end of the days of 'carry on baggage' worries me. Always takes a few pricks to ruin it for millions and billions of innocent people.

Edit: Deleted part of the first bit since I wrote about half of this before /reading/ the article. I think possibly not being able to take on carry on baggage anymore = loss of freedom.
10442  Media / General Games / Sega Genesis Collection: Lineup unveiled. on: August 10, 2006, 09:33:54 PM
Reading some of the comments kinda worries me - like the reason for why a new Alex Kidd likely won't be made (I'm apathetic of the series currently), as it reminds me too much of the reasoning for making Shining Force Neo an action RPG. And reading the commentary on each of the titles, when I think about it, it truly is baffling that the Genesis port of /Virtua Fighter 2/ is included instead of something like Gunstar Heroes or Dynamite Headdy.
10443  Media / General Games / Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on: August 10, 2006, 09:31:42 PM
I'm kinda worried about if they break too much from Metroid conventions - they seemed to muck up the near-perfect balance of shooting and adventuring in Prime 2 in favor of shooting (way too many annoying encounters), and Prime 3 is making you go from planet to planet, rather than creating one large world like all previous titles.

Still, it should be a great game even if it fails to live up to 1, and I may just be a cranky fanboy who doesn't want things to change ever. Still though,t his is a change to something more mundane, while changes from games like CT to CC and BoFI-IV to V were largely unorthodox.
10444  The Rest / General Discussions / A thought: how can Nintendo top Wii? on: August 10, 2006, 09:07:03 PM

You're an idiot.

The Wii will flop like breathing flopped.

Yeah, god forbid that he leaves it open in case things don't turn out as well as we hope. :P
10445  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Final Fantasy III DS gameplay video! on: August 10, 2006, 05:34:29 PM
I'd just like to note that I was joking when I asked 'what're we talking about FFIII for?'.
10446  Media / General Games / Sega Genesis Collection: Lineup unveiled. on: August 10, 2006, 05:27:34 PM
1up story. This could also go in Console RPGs I guess, but I'm leaning more towards here because there's only about, say, 4 or 5 RPGs on that list.

Aw man. I'm glad all the Phantasy Stars are there, but no Shining? Streets of Rage is also a disappointment, albit a much less serious one. They could've fit both Shining Force 1 & 2 on had they removed the two Sonic games. As good as Sonic is, there's already a Sonic collection on the PS2: Why not bolster sales of that for those that want to play Sonic 1 & 2?

Still, looks like a pretty solid collection.
10447  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Deep Labyrinth Anyone? on: August 10, 2006, 04:25:30 AM
I'm kinda interested in it, though it's not a high priority. Doesn't help that even the favorable reviews are giving it a 6.5. Still, it might be entertaining.
10448  The Rest / General Discussions / Mel Gibson Hates Jews on: August 09, 2006, 10:59:42 PM
A little late, but Jon Stewart on the Media Coverage.
10449  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Riviera for the PSP on: August 09, 2006, 09:47:54 PM

I just don't understand why it's going to be on the PSP.

I've got a simple answer to your inquiry:

10450  The Rest / General Discussions / Joe Lieberman concedes in Democratic primary for Senate on: August 09, 2006, 06:46:28 PM
Outside of the games issue (and honestly, there's way worse than Lieberman out there, despite the fact he basically started this), I really don't have an opinion of him.

I forgot about that... Anyway, can we accept the fact that I've been pwned by the same people on two separate threads and actually talk about Final Fantasy 3? Please?

Huh, what're we talking about FFIII for?

Edit: In seriousness, may as well respond to an earlier post.

While great graphics are nice, they're certainly not the end all be all of games. As cliched and beaten to death as this argument is... There's quitea few games I really enjoyed that didn't have the best possible graphics: Drill Dozer doesn't look as good as even some first gen GBA games, but is a great 16-bit style platformer.

But admittedly, a game's gotta at least not be repulsive graphically - how many of could handle playing a game with Atari 2600 graphics again, or a very repulsive art/graphical style? It's nice to have the occassional graphics wankery, though.

OK, OK, OK I get it! I should have said "in my opinion" or something and that would have been alright.

Actually, simply not saying 'don't argue with me' would've probably cut down on the backlash quite a bit, if not flat out eliminate it. :P

And actually, I think liking stuff like Riviera is more along the lines of liking the 'RPG that came from a nobody'. The developers of Golden Sun had developed pretty much the entire Shining series up to Shining Force 3, including the assorted side games, and would have continued to do so if not for the rift that formed between them. So, yeah. Maybe not in an established series, but definitely from an established developer.

Edit: Though to be fair, I should mention Sting's (Riviera's developers) claim to fame:

Evolution. Yeah, that DC RPG series.

Just because it looks good and it's Final Fantasy doesn't mean it'll replace Golden Sun as The Best RPG On A Nintendo Handheld (and therefore all handhelds) - it's true, don't argue. But we're all Final Fantasy favouritists, aren't we?

You're just begging for someone to argue with you when you state things like 'don't argue, this is THE BEST'. While I beat Golden Sun and moderately enjoyed it, and wouldn't mind setting a sequel, it's no where near being one of my favorite RPGs, let alone one on a handheld. I can't really name a favorite handheld RPG admittedly, but I did enjoy DWIII a good bit, loved VP:L, and had more fun with the ten hours of Riviera I played. Admittedly all art ports... But Riviera only came out on handhelds anyway.

If I /had/ to name a best RPG that was exclusively for handhelds... Probably one of the M&L games.

What a buffoon.  I don't think online distribution en masse will be feasible for quite a while.  When games start reaching 10-15 GB size in range, you'll need really fast internet connections to make download times reasonable.

Possibly more importantly, you need higher bandwidth caps too - last I checked, Cox capped the download bandwidth at 30 GB. That would just barely cover a single layer blu-ray (25 GBs), let alone multilayer ones (going up to god knows how high). If the PS3 genuinely survives for 10 years before a successor emerges, then it might be possible for internet connectivity to improve enough for that.
10455  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Victor Ireland's Rebirth on: August 09, 2006, 01:54:17 AM
To be fair, Xseed has yet to show just what all they'll grab, and NIS specializes in RPGs. Atlus grabs the quirky non-RPGs, but aside from them, I don't think we see many come out here unless it's by a major publisher.

Then again, Vic mostly grabbed shooters and RPGs, so I think Atlus is still the one to look for random whatever games.
