10471  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Phantasy Star Universe to lack keyboard support? on: August 06, 2006, 04:03:55 PM
RPGFan news story, third paragraph.

Unless this is support for /playing/ the game with the keyboard instead of the controller, this pisses me off. The PS2 has USB ports, and even games like DoC are keeping keyboard support to play as an FPS. There's no reason to not support using the keyboard to type in PSU.
10472  Media / Single-Player RPGs / NISA and Blade Dancer on: August 06, 2006, 03:35:49 PM
NIS is probably best suited for comedic/light hearted games. But it sounds like Blade Dancer's story is complete trash, so I don't know how much I'd care anyway. I'm probably going to avoid the game anyway, pending magically finding a copy for $5 or something.
10473  The Rest / General Discussions / Anascape sues Microsoft, Nintendo over controller patents on: August 06, 2006, 02:44:40 PM
GameSpot story.

I'm getting tired of these lawsuits, espicially when it looks/seems like they're the result of people trying to cash in on the success of games by exploiting loopholes or negligence. Though Nintendo seems to have covered their asses pretty well patent-wise.

...either way, it's more fuel for comedians, especially stand-up comedians.  They're having a field day with this.

Ahh, how true that is. Seeing the aftermath was great, such as the gifs or parodies on TV.

Eus: There's been a "Game Soundtrack" category two years running, this is the first original score one.

Ahhh. Well, then they suck I guess. :P
10476  Media / The Soundroom / MTV Music Awards, namely the VG Score category. on: August 05, 2006, 09:53:01 PM
Belated RPGFan story. Thoughts on the choices? Despite what John said, I'm personally just glad they picked games with original soundtracks, and didn't just do what others like Spike TV have done and threw in a bunch of games full of licensed music, ignoring those with original compositions.

I can't comment on the rest, but I left it open for those that care more than I.
10477  The Rest / General Discussions / Flamebait: Girl without a face. on: August 05, 2006, 08:47:19 PM
If she wants to die, better to give her the choice later. She may've been fortunate if she was aborted, but she seems to be enjoying her life regardless. And it's hard to tell how things like this will turn out during pregnancy, since at first it looked like it was just going to be a cleft palate, something some people here were born with as I recall.

I want to say more, but I swear I can't formulate my thoughts any further.

The couch thing isn't a big deal. If that's all it was, I'd laugh at his stupid shit and blow it off. It's that damn scientology/psychology rant that keeps me from taking him seriously. Other actors and actresses are scientologists, and I really don't like that 'religion', but he went and made a public spectale out of himself when interviewed, without resorting to jumping on people's couches.
10479  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra on: August 05, 2006, 03:07:00 PM
This will admittedly  have to depend on my experinces for when I play it, but it looks to me like XS could still be around if XS2 was more like XSIII.

I really don't fully get their changes - it may've been better for the story and telling it to go with more realistic designs, but such an abrupt change was just /horrible/ for a constantly ongoing series. It worked for FFVIII while managing to make Tetsuya Nomura evolve more as a character designer, but XSII just seemed to be trying to appeal far too much to the american audience they discovered they could sell the game to - going from one extreme in several areas to the other. It espicially looks awkward now compared to XSIII. :P

Edit: This post made me realize something - no matter what, XSIII's going to make me bitch. If it's a crappy, or at least average game, then I'll lament how Monolith Soft turned a series I was initially enjoying into a huge disappointment. If they make this a great game, then I'll just criticize XSII harder for being the odd one out of the series.
10480  Media / Single-Player RPGs / The future of Squeenix's GBA ports on: August 05, 2006, 11:11:04 AM

So then they will either have to (well not have to, but you know what I mean) release some of their other older RPGs on the GBA, or stop doing ports for it.

Like it or not, I think it's pretty much guaranteed to be the second choice. The GBA is at the end of it's life - those ports may very well be the system's last great games pending a US release of Mother 3. And with the virtual console, they can just casually throw less profitable titles on that to sell.
10481  The Rest / General Discussions / Selling games on: August 04, 2006, 07:26:38 PM
We hog about everything we get - games typically either get lost, or broken (not too frequent, though many PSX discs have some serious scratches). We however DID let go of my copy of Luigi's Mansion, and my brother's copy of Kessen 2 - neither of us liked Kessen 2, and Luigi's Mansion, while it was moderately enjoyable, is one of the games I have the lowest incentive to ever replay. The money from these two games went to my brother getting Metroid Prime.

Too many games are either A. too cheap to be worth anything (I figure), B. too rare for me to want to let got at all, or C. too damn good to let go of.
10482  The Rest / General Discussions / EA charging $20 to see Madden preview on: August 04, 2006, 05:29:32 PM
Old news. It's a rip off, but they probably will get a lot of views, and I don't think this was really aimed at anyone that isn't some nutso Madden fan.
10483  Media / Single-Player RPGs / The future of Squeenix's GBA ports on: August 04, 2006, 01:53:33 AM
There's probably not enough new quality to make it worth retranslating more than the parts necessary, but they retranslated anyway. It's supposed to be the highest quality translation of all the releases, too.
10484  Media / Single-Player RPGs / The future of Squeenix's GBA ports on: August 04, 2006, 01:42:48 AM
Given they're GBA ports, expecting anything beyond FFIV's quality is absurd. It's either the quality FFIV got into being ported and lightly remade, or kept exactly the same - and the screens I saw seem to indicate those two will remain the same graphically. V may've looked slightly better, but VI looked the same.
10485  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra on: August 04, 2006, 01:03:42 AM
Now that I think about it, if they tried to stick to XS Ep V being XG, it'd be really awkward. There'd be 3 games focusing on one period, contained entirely in a little over a year, then all of a sudden there's another game thousands of years later covering one point, then another game leaping forward several thousand years. That'd seem a bit messy to me.
