10486  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra on: August 04, 2006, 01:03:42 AM
Now that I think about it, if they tried to stick to XS Ep V being XG, it'd be really awkward. There'd be 3 games focusing on one period, contained entirely in a little over a year, then all of a sudden there's another game thousands of years later covering one point, then another game leaping forward several thousand years. That'd seem a bit messy to me.

I wouldn't mind a port of Secret of Evermore. I enjoyed that game.

The most I think you can hope for with that is SE cares /just/ enough to put it on the Virtual Console. It's probably one of the most likely to appear on that too, since there's probably zero incentive for them to ever properly re-release it.

The bitterest irony to me is that, for me, it was pretty much fucked from XSII regardless - if that did great, the series would continue with that style, and more importantly that battle system, and I wouldn't touch it at all. Thus, to make the series good again for me, it had to fail to the point they'd make this game to close it off. My best hope is that this does so well in all areas that they make a new Xeno* series to deal with the other parts. As is, doesn't sound like that's happening in Japan, and I don't see it having much success over here.

Though they might do that anyway in a cheap way to regain interest. Hey look, it's a new series! Sorta. I guess it works for Megaman anyway.

How can this game conclude everything?  Doesn't there have to be another game (since the original Xenogears was "Episode V")?

1. This is continuing with the assumption that Xenosaga would inevitably lead to Xenogears.

2. We pretty much know what happens after the crash and to the present day of XG, it likely concludes everything that XS itself has left hanging open, and possibly leads up to the crash. If anything, it's the details of Episode VI that are the greatest mystery, and will likely remain as such.

CEA actually doesn't have anything against 2-D games on PSP (they do on PS2, to an extent), but they do require the 30% new content in PS1 games, to be released on PSP (which isn't 100% clear anyway).

I think they just bullshitted a number. 10 minutes of new FMVs certainly doesn't equal 30% new content, and it's just hard as hell to measure where the screen resizing fits. I think their policy is more 'if it doesn't have any significant new additions, turn it down', which is a shame, but is likely done in the first place /because/ of this.

... Though I'm hoping games like BoFIII and ToE have special widescreen modes using code ripped from the PSP ports.

10492  Media / General Games / Symphony of the Night to be released on XBox Live Arcade on: August 03, 2006, 10:05:56 PM
It's too early to say shit about whether or not it'll be on the PSP, and it's not like Sony or Nintendo have much say beyond approving/denying it, and I doubt Nintendo would deny it. Sony probably would, but that's made a non-issue with the PSX download service, where it once again becomes a matter of whether or not Konami goes through... And if they're doing this for the fucking /XBox/, I think there's a good chance we can get it when PSX downloads go up.

10494  The Rest / General Discussions / Mel Gibson Hates Jews on: August 03, 2006, 08:03:29 AM
Well... I understand the Jewish community being offended, but I don't think is worthy of /hatred/ of the person. I don't think I'd take well to hearing someone shout shit about me while they were drunk, but better to let that go since they were drunk. Personally, I just view this similarly to when someone acts stupid on the boards - curious to see how the responses turn out.

I can't think of any actor, aside from one, that's actually bugged me enough with how they've acted that I can't bring myself to watch their stuff anymore. It's their own lives, as long as they keep doing their job well, I don't give a crap. As for that one, it'd be Tom Cruise. I'm honestly not sure if I can take him seriously anymore after his whackass bullshit, but I'm going to have to try sooner or later.
10495  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra on: August 03, 2006, 03:14:35 AM
I actually enjoyed Episode 1's gameplay, so unless my tastes somehow changed enough without me knowing to the point that I'd hate it, I'll be happy with that - the only change I can see is tolerance for length, and if this review's any indicator, that problem won't be there.

Looked at other reviews on the site too - Definitely going to wait on .hack//G.U., and most likely will just read a synopsis. And it sounds like BKO may have a glimmer of hope, but I'll wait until I hear what others say - it's still suffering from one of the biggest problems I had it seems.
10496  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra on: August 03, 2006, 01:45:17 AM
I've been wondering how this game turned out after the first two that polarized several, myself included, so I went to look for reviews on the import to see if they managed to end the series well. Sounds like they did. While the bit about likening the dungeons to those of SH:C isn't favorable for me, the fact battles are dramatically shorter makes me happy, and it's good to see that it sounds like they didn't just totally destroy the story in the attempt to finish it up. There were some others at GameFaqs that I only glanced at that seemed to be positive overall.

Sadly, there's a stronger argument against Punch Out - making the Russian guy Vodka Drunkenski in the Arcade version, the first guy a wimpy Frenchie... But then those were cartoon cariactures, and never did anything excessively bad, like blackface. :P
10498  The Rest / General Discussions / Game Journal #2 on the new(ish) boards on: August 02, 2006, 09:00:38 PM
Beat Drill Dozer. Kinda short, but given that it's akin to old 16 bit platformers, I guess that really shouldn't be a surprise, plus the levels tended to be pretty long. I really recommand it to those that have GBAs/DSes, espicially with it being cheaper.

I know some editors weren't all that impressed with it, but looking elsewhere I've seen positive impressions of the game, and I enjoyed Grasshoper's last game, Killer 7. Anyone else interested at all in this?

Edit: Oh, and it's coming out soon, sometime in September it seems.
10500  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Summon Night - anyone else grab this? on: August 02, 2006, 03:35:38 AM
I'd like to get it sooner or later. It looks like the only game that actually decided to try copying what the Tales series does, so I'm interested.
