10486  The Rest / General Discussions / What the hell does this mean? E3 Gone? on: July 31, 2006, 06:37:09 PM
E3 renamed to E3Expo - Etertainment Entertainment Expo... Expo?
I don't see why E3 didn't work before, And if they want to seperate the smaller expo from the original incarnation, wouldn't something like E3Con sound stupid, but less redundant? Or better yet, a total rename to show how different it is?

Edit: Nevermind, it's the E3 Media Festival. Same GameSpot URL as above, but updated. And the attendence is estimated to be 5,000 - I think RPGFan will get in just fine, just not the assorted store employees that are there only for playing games early and free booze.

I just hope that with this downsized, that they /do/ release news on a more consistant basis and not just 'save it all up for the big show'. If they keep doing that (I admittedly half expect them to do it anyway for this next show), then I'll just be annoyed.

Also, could we be seeing E3 in July now?

AVG's a good free virus scanner, if that helps.

I half expect it's also because of CD/DVD cases versus boxes like in the 16-bit days/on PCs. Even EA apparantly actually takes the time to put effort into those on the PC (by their standards at least), as I heard the PC version of BfME2 had a /60 page/ manual, while the X360 version apparantly just had a small piece of crap like any other EA game.

However, this could easily be avoided on consoles: Just make another case type with the manual pins stuck out further. Freedom Force for the Mac does this, and it's the same exact size as any other DVD case - therefore, this can partially be blamed on SCE, Microsoft, and probably Nintendo for not creating cases for all manual sizes, and if the PS3 takes the blu-ray cases, I can't see this getting any better.

I've managed to bypass two worlds, and don't know how to get into them. Little help?

Hint: Remember when you beat the bosses of the worlds beforehand? If you don't know what I'm talking about, go beat them again. And if you just want to know...
Code:
You need to beat the bosses of worlds 2 and 5 as Mini-Mario. Then you'll go through the tiny passageway rather than the default one.

For ways other than the one I hinted at, you can find the right cannon to launch yourself to the extra worlds.
10491  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Sigma Star Saga - is it any good? on: July 31, 2006, 04:36:25 PM
Have you played a game called Guardian Legend when you were young? It's apparantly supposed to play like that, and I was fond of it back in the day. Also probably worth looking at if you like giving unknown and unique titles a shot. Plus some around here (Neal, Tony) are fans of the game, so you know everyone doesn't hate it or something.
10492  The Rest / General Discussions / Mel Gibson Hates Jews on: July 31, 2006, 04:31:42 PM
Not surprised. You pointed out that his father is a huge anti-semite, and while  that doesn't mean his son would be the same way, it also admittedly makes it more likely than if neither of his parents had such feelings about them. I don't really get where this Jew-hate is coming from anyway.

They mean that there's voiceacting in the text.

Heh, pretty much guarantees we either A. won't ever get it, or B. we can dread hearing half of the VA. It is possible to do a lot of VA and make it sound good; I'm sure that all of it combined would have less voice acting than the KotOR titles and maybe Jade Empire. But the question is if Namco will care as much as Bioware would?

Ramza: Any reason you didn't use the spoiler tag, or just forgot? :P

Stuff like that is typical for a game - I still need to play through and beat KH2, but it seems more like just following typical game cliches more than anything else.

Thought: if these people are older than 20 they need a life. Ooops!

Ah, so now you show that you descriminate against adults playing video games, despite the fact /many/ that are over 20 are playing video games, and most have a life anyway. Yet you are arguing about non-existant racism in a video game.

Have you been here before?

The more that i think about it, the more they invited people totally irrelevant to the game industry - several celebrities and bands had gone, and I /think/ EB/GS employees got to go in years past. As well as what I hinted at in my previous post, they might just be cutting down on people who really aren't with the press or active, significant members of the industry, as well as letting fewer people from each site/magazine come to cover the goods.

And the more I think about it, the more it seems silly they have an extravagent expo that they pour millions into, yet close off to anyone that isn't press/trade/celebrity. It was crowded as it was from all I've heard, but it seems like their efforts were more in line to get the average person involved, when instead it's being relayed in pieces to everyone but the aforementioned. They would probably produce more money with a public variation where they could make money off of the general public that wants in, and maybe sell some games and stuff for a slightly discounted price to lure in more revenue, and possibly generate further hype.

FINALLY watched Superman Returns. Greatly enjoyed it.

I've not thoroughly read your post, but... Are you implying black, mexicans, etc want to attain whiteness, just as the nobodies and heartless want... Uhhh, their hearts and bodies back respectively?

Huh. not as big of a leap as I thought, I thought they'd be touching up all the graphics over the PSX version. Instead, it just looks like the battle sprites are, and I need to look at pictures of those again. But, hey, it's still a good looking game.
10500  The Rest / General Discussions / What the hell does this mean? E3 Gone? on: July 31, 2006, 12:02:54 AM
I don't know how many sites get in for doing nothing, but if it's in the /hundreds/, I half expect only the big name magazines/sites could go. Probably depends on how many hundred though, and if that includes developers and those folks.

Edit: Alternatively, it could also mean only one or two people go to E3 rather than half the staff.
