Downloaded both games, will mess with them later.

Been hoarding modules, checking out what looks interesting, what's recommanded (amusingly, I had grabbed one of Stephen Gagne's modules, Hex Coda, before actually /reading/ all of Stel's post), but I haven't touched any - outside of just playing the one DR suggested, anyway. Fuck, that's already an assload more interesting than the main game was.

I beat chapter 1 like I said I would, so I'm probably going to go and start the expansions after beating this module.

Well, I could be wrong. I only remember...
Code:
... the outfit she wore when you met her, the dance girl outfit, and the bunny outfit. Of course, her default outfit for 4 total.

There's armor you can earn to change the hero's appearance, but that may require too much effort. And... Jessica's only got three alternative outfits, and one of them's just impractical as armor.

GameSpot had another news story I missed.

Predicting that there'll be few/no games without in-game advertising in 2009? The concept of /that/ pisses me off. :P

While I have yet to seriously see it happen beyond sports games and some odd ball titles, it seems people are getting more and more interested in doing it. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. What're your thoughts on all this guys?

Personally, if games were actually substantially cheaper/flat out free, I would be able to tolerate it. But stuff like EA plastering ads all over their games, and still charging $60 for them on the X360 just pisses me off. And naturally it'd be jarring in more fantasy based games, and to a lesser degree sci fi titles. So... Unless I actually get cheap/free games out of this, I'd rather they rapidly back away from this. :P
10688  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Xbox 360 question on: June 09, 2006, 09:46:37 AM
To be more specific, the core system is missing:

HardDrive (a given)
Wireless controller (core comes with a wired one)
HD AV cables (they also work as SDTV cables, but they can be handy for component, non-HD video)
Ethernet Cable
Xbox Live Headset
Shiny Chrome drive plate

If you want some american prices for comparison's sake (dunno british prices)... Core system is $300, Premium is $400, wireless controller is $50, and the Hard Drive is $100. I can't recall the other prices, but I think the memory cards are $40, and the HD cables are probably like $30 since Microsoft likes to overprice this stuff. I think just the two system prices and the price of the HD alone show how insanely better (genuinely or artifically) the premium system is.
10689  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Xbox 360 question on: June 09, 2006, 07:38:24 AM
You can go online with the core pack and no HD - but you probably won't be able to download much. Even if you can download some of the files that're online, all of the demoes would simply be too big to fit on it.

Personally, I'd just jump for the Premium system - unlike the PS3, there isn't any essential hardware you'd miss out by just getting the Core system (unless chrome plated disc drives are a must have), but it's just more convinent, and probably cheaper, to get that and be done with it.

10691  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Beggar Prince on: June 09, 2006, 02:48:13 AM
Guys, remember when it was posted about earlier? Well, It's out. It's going for $46 (including shipping). Anyone still want to get this, or no? :P
10692  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Never Winter Nights on: June 09, 2006, 01:42:18 AM
Well, I'm going to try for finishing at least chapter 1. I want to see if something I think will happen, happens. And... Bleh about improper punctuation/grammar. I'll just have to play and see for myself, as I can shut it out if it's not too horrible.

As for the disc deal: You need the disc to run the game? Maybe it's different from when you're playing a premium module you bought online, but I've installed the game normally and have played it without the disc in the system.
10693  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Never Winter Nights on: June 08, 2006, 10:47:06 PM
Bumping this up since, while it's nearly 3 monthes old... There haven't been enough posts to even make a second /page/ yet. Oh, and we bought the Diamond version.

Playing through the main campaign, despite the fact most people seem to think it sucks compared to the expansion packs (hi Stel), and I think I'm nearing the end of chapter 1. How well do the expansion packs connect to this, or are they their own story that may happen to have a character or two from this game? And any modules you guys would recommand? I'd espically like one with a strong story, but anything that's good will suffice, and the amount of modules on that Vault site is mind blowing. Thanks.
10694  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Freshly-Picked Tingle's Pink Coloured Rupee Land on: June 08, 2006, 10:18:48 PM
To be fair, the name likely won't be the same in the US - hell, IGN's translation was different from that name (Fresh Tingle's Rose Colored Rupee Land), but if the name remains half as stupid/awesome in the US... Fuck yes. :P
10695  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Freshly-Picked Tingle's Pink Coloured Rupee Land on: June 08, 2006, 07:04:28 PM
1up's story of the Tingle RPG and some DQ game. Yes, that is the name of the game. No, I'm not making it up. Also, Jeux France URL in the story leads to a scan.
