10771  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Final Fantasy releases, Japan to us on: May 17, 2006, 06:57:09 PM
FF1 in all incarnations is FF1. Also, all FFs that've been released or re-released since FFVII have their correct japanese numbers.

Well... I imagine there's still a significant amount of RPG in it given how there seem to be hitpoints and towns, but it'll be clear one way or another upon release. There's the fact sheet on that spot too if you wanna see how Nintendo's describing it. :P

I forget/never found out what the deal was with the numbers. But I like how trippy it's looking to be.

If you want to know about the GB FF titles (Adventure/Legend), I'm sure I can dig up which is SaGa and which is "of Mana".

That's pretty easy actually: Final Fantasy Adventure = Seiken Densetsu 1 = first Mana game, and Final Fantasy Legend = SaGa. No numbering hijinks with SaGa, FFL3=SaGa 3 and whatnot.

But I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that I finished the first world with forty-one lives...

I'd just be happy, it gets a bit harder later. Not 'holy shit impossible', but unless you're just trying to blast through the game without finding anything, it'll act as good insurance.

I see numbers in the trailer when Mario jumps on enemies and it's the third in a line of Mario RPGs. I figure that, at the least, this probably will count as much as the Castleroids do. Maybe moreso. :P

Noticed there wasn't any news on the site, let alone a topic, so I figured I'd post one. GameSpot's page for it. Looks like it'll be pretty damn good, albit a lot different from the first two. Anyone else planning to pick it up?
10777  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Smash Bros. Brawl on: May 16, 2006, 10:01:48 PM
If you mean news stories, RPGFan doesn't cover games like Smash Bros. last I checked... And if you mean in this thread, I seriously hope you don't equate Nobuo Uematsu composing the /main/ theme with 'he contributed One-Winged Angel'.

While I don't agree with their opinions of the movie, I do think that if they want to say they /think/ it sucks, then by all means they can. Besides, I recall you constantly saying "DQ sucks" when DQVIII came out just because you didn't like it... :P
10779  Media / Miscellaneous Games / New Super Mario Bros. on: May 16, 2006, 09:37:14 PM
Got the game, and while my biggest fear with it, that it'd be /too/ much like the older ones is true, and not with as big of a difference as SMB1 to SMB3 or 3 to World, but it's still the first traditional SMB title in years, and is damn awesome.

And, of course, they neglected to mention the PC. But as the PC hasn't seen Halo 2 yet, I'd say the chances of H3 appearing on it are pretty slim too.

It's been announced, it's just that the decision to put it on Vista will make it take awhile before it actually comes out. So I'd say the chances of Halo 3 coming to PC are damn good... Just, that it's going to be quite awhile before we see it, and by then we'll have seen several new installments in the GTA series past 4. :P
10781  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Shadowrun FPS on: May 16, 2006, 04:39:31 PM
Even the publishers of the book are saying to take it as an 'FPS loosely based on Shadowrun'. Man, all I can hope for is A. this is good in the end (FASA /has/ made some good games before, so it's not exactly unrealistic), and that it creates a surge of interest that prompts the franchise being licensed to someone like Bioware or Obsidian to create an actual RPG out of.

Well,they're gonna use 'one-winged angel' wich is sephiroth's theme,at least that's what i heard

Take anything you hear with a grain of salt unless you see it on the official SSB site or news from a reputable news source (not counting rumors they post, of course).
10783  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Dirge of Cerberus Online?!?! on: May 16, 2006, 01:18:38 AM
Bleh... Ironically this upped my interest for DoC, but I'm just generally sick of supporting the HD /at all/ being snubbed in the US. Bloody hell, even the installation options are being thrown out in every game. :P

Edit: Curious about HDD support removal in other games, I decided to google it for WA:ACF, the one game whose NA release actually was slated to support it. Found this interview. A bit off topic, and it doesn't really go into much detail, but may interest some of you anyway.

I got a FFVIII/FFX vibe from the trailer. Must be the whole quasi-futuristic setting and design of everything. Except that I didn't particularly like either of the aforementioned titles. Why can't they make another FF akin to FFIX? Whyyyyy?

Because hippo people suck.

I couldn't really get into FFIX despite how much I wanted to; I'll just have to try and replay it at some point. I'd prefer a FFIV/VI vibe successfully translated to a 3D FF, and the closest I see to that happening is FFXII. Nevertheless, I'm equally (maybe moreso right now) interested in the style of setting that FFXIII promises: Want to see more sci-fi RPGs, even though technically FF isn't the most fitting series to pull that off in. :P

Snake on the other hand has at least appeared on the GameCube.

And debuted in America on the NES!

Yeah... Nor is Sephiroth a great character for a dream deathmatch. Maybe against Ganondorf, but he nor Cloud have any history with Nintendo outside of 'nearly wound up on the N64'. Characters like Sonic and even Master Chief would be great though because they are/were major characters for their competition, and that could even apply (to a much lesser degree) to the Naughty Dog/Insomniac characters. Cloud and Sephiroth though... Damn, just throw in Cecil or Terra or someone. :P
