Heads up to the staff, the article about this named the wrong Oreshika as getting brought over.

Oh yeah, missed this earlier. Sony didn't mention the first game in their press release so it's on them not communicating which game it was, though quick research would show it's 2.
17  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (Over My Dead Body 2) localization announced on: April 14, 2014, 10:22:38 PM
Changed the name to actually include the localized name: no one's called Virtue's Last Reward "Good People Die" since Aksys settled on the former.

... And man, I wasn't expecting we'd get news before it came out in Japan. Glad we're seeing it.

Made a new guy on ultros to play with a buddy, anyone still play on this server?

I do, but probably only for a month, I wanted to get in with the PS4 launch and wrap up the story.

And ride a fat chocobo around.

Oath in Felghana and Origin are two of my favorite RPGs ever, so I would start with one of those, preferably Origin first since it is of course an origin story.

Origin is much better after Ys I & II if you can still handle playing those, it's one of those prequels meant to be seen after later events. If you can't stomach Ys I & II then sure, jump into Origin, and it's not as if Ys I & II have some deep rich story anyway (Trails in the Sky comes far closer to being that) so it's no big deal either way.

EDIT: As for which version of Ys I & II to get: assuming you're posting on a PC (age basically doesn't matter at this point) and portability isn't a top priority then get it on Steam. Runs much smoother and with a wider viewing area if you don't mind a 4:3 picture, and if you do there's a toggle to make it like the PSP version in that regard.

How do you know the Japanese dub of Conception II is any good, anyway?

I mean apparently the Japanese dub of the DDS games was /way/ worse than the English ones.

For some games it's just nicer to not actually understand what they're saying.

Atlus has gone for dual audio in the past, I just suspect it's usually a matter of how convenient it is, and they have a lower threshold possibly than other publishers. Or their choices are always the biggest pains in the ass to get dual audio into for some reason, while Atlus in Japan may well not care to work out such deals for most of their own games (and they one time they did they region locked it.)

EDIT: Wait no, there were TWO instances, but the other one, Dragon's Crown, is more like a pseudo exception rather than a proper one. But that narrator is awesome so who cares.
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 on: March 25, 2014, 10:08:52 PM
Actually, the IF situation IS strange. I can see Tecmo Koei being a (somewhat) larger publisher and thus taking that mentality of being leery about licensing out stuff they own, but IF is still starting here so it could be more like Level 5 or at most Marvelous, where they still license their games out but just don't publish all of them. And perhaps in that case NISA didn't really want to deal with getting the Vita version out so they took it on themselves.
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 on: March 25, 2014, 09:53:36 PM
They also have their anime segment, but how they make money there I'll never know.  They're so ridiculously overpriced.

You have no idea what overpriced is...

Seriously, this statement baffles my mind.  NISA's stuff is cheap.  You want to see overpriced look at Aniplex.  Their stuff is an order of magnitude more expensive than NISA's.  That is not an exaggeration.

Gurren Lagann might be worth $500 but that doesn't mean I can rationalize paying that much!

I'm guess NISA is more "What do you mean it's not the mid 00s still!?"
24  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 on: March 25, 2014, 08:05:04 PM
And despite those initial pictures it sounds like Demon's Gaze is actually pretty good. Maybe it's forcing them to look into other developers/publishers and bringing over potentially better games? Or at least a wider variety.
25  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 on: March 25, 2014, 07:45:15 PM
It's kind of interesting how NISA lost two of their staples within about a year, Gust and IF games. Though only the first I care about at all and only started caring again about when they got bought by TK anyway.
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Ayesha on: March 24, 2014, 10:02:43 PM
Well, each game is typically worthy of a thread in and of itself anyway, though every bit of news doesn't desperately need a thread, no. Either way there should be a new topic made for Escha & Logy, whether it's a general Atelier thread or one for that game specifically, rather than using an older thread mostly about Ayesha at this point.
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Ayesha on: March 24, 2014, 09:43:02 PM
It'd really be better to make a new thread for Atelier Escha & Logy by the way.
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Shin Megami Tensei iOS funtimes on: March 22, 2014, 04:44:54 PM
Zuh?  I'm playing it on my iPad.

Yeah, that's what I'd been hearing, though it's not a native app so it won't be pretty. But then we're talking about a moderately updated 1992 game anyway that wasn't exactly a graphical showpiece for the SNES, though even then I'd like relatively sharp graphics rather than something really blurry due to their upscaler.

And you can't blow off Int when it comes to conversations apparently, that tends to help a lot it sounds like.

Nope, don't need this.

Meh, it's one of the only kinds of games I'd be (relatively) comfortable playing on mobile anyway, at least with virtual buttons. It would however be amazing if they could apply that translation to a GBA VC release, the game basically seems like an upgraded GBA emulation so I guess it depends on whether it's really using a ROM or if it's been rebuilt and just seems like the GBA version mostly.
