Atlus has gone for dual audio in the past, I just suspect it's usually a matter of how convenient it is, and they have a lower threshold possibly than other publishers. Or their choices are always the biggest pains in the ass to get dual audio into for some reason, while Atlus in Japan may well not care to work out such deals for most of their own games (and they one time they did they region locked it.)

EDIT: Wait no, there were TWO instances, but the other one, Dragon's Crown, is more like a pseudo exception rather than a proper one. But that narrator is awesome so who cares.

Actually, the IF situation IS strange. I can see Tecmo Koei being a (somewhat) larger publisher and thus taking that mentality of being leery about licensing out stuff they own, but IF is still starting here so it could be more like Level 5 or at most Marvelous, where they still license their games out but just don't publish all of them. And perhaps in that case NISA didn't really want to deal with getting the Vita version out so they took it on themselves.

Seriously, this statement baffles my mind.  NISA's stuff is cheap.  You want to see overpriced look at Aniplex.  Their stuff is an order of magnitude more expensive than NISA's.  That is not an exaggeration.

Gurren Lagann might be worth $500 but that doesn't mean I can rationalize paying that much!

I'm guess NISA is more "What do you mean it's not the mid 00s still!?"

And despite those initial pictures it sounds like Demon's Gaze is actually pretty good. Maybe it's forcing them to look into other developers/publishers and bringing over potentially better games? Or at least a wider variety.

It's kind of interesting how NISA lost two of their staples within about a year, Gust and IF games. Though only the first I care about at all and only started caring again about when they got bought by TK anyway.

Well, each game is typically worthy of a thread in and of itself anyway, though every bit of news doesn't desperately need a thread, no. Either way there should be a new topic made for Escha & Logy, whether it's a general Atelier thread or one for that game specifically, rather than using an older thread mostly about Ayesha at this point.

Yeah, that's what I'd been hearing, though it's not a native app so it won't be pretty. But then we're talking about a moderately updated 1992 game anyway that wasn't exactly a graphical showpiece for the SNES, though even then I'd like relatively sharp graphics rather than something really blurry due to their upscaler.

And you can't blow off Int when it comes to conversations apparently, that tends to help a lot it sounds like.

Meh, it's one of the only kinds of games I'd be (relatively) comfortable playing on mobile anyway, at least with virtual buttons. It would however be amazing if they could apply that translation to a GBA VC release, the game basically seems like an upgraded GBA emulation so I guess it depends on whether it's really using a ROM or if it's been rebuilt and just seems like the GBA version mostly.

I've put about eleven hours in, and the world feels more like giant expansive levels than one continuous world.  Think the second half of Dark Souls where you go through the catacombs to the tomb and then to fight Nito.  I haven't found any connections between these branches but they certainly could be there. 

About the only real complain I have with the game is the bosses, honestly.  They have either been way too easy or kinda cheap.  Hit my second boss that had me cursing up a storm, mostly because I keep getting caught on his elbow and then, surprise, AOE attack with pretty insane range that has to be dodged perfectly.  I'm hesitant to use a human effigy to call in help because that did not go well last time.  My helper dude ended up getting pasted by the boss' first attack and I ended up dying.  I really wish they would just revive you to human form after you help another player clear a boss.  That worked so dang well in Demon's Souls and I really miss that mechanic.

Again, minor complaints for a pretty awesome game so far.  The bosses are getting bigger and nastier, which is good. 

Try the inverse: keep offering your help and get used to the boss, THEN turn human and get help. I was stuck on the boss before the Blue Sentinels covenant, and just kept helping people get through him so that I'd have an easier time when I attempted it again, and I was completely curbstomped the first time.

Though I also poked around in other areas some more and tried different weapons. Maces are pretty good for that area.

It's why I say "umbrella" most of the time: there's clearly shared ground, but Atlus in Japan didn't market many of those as being in the same series explicitly past an installment or two. It's kind of like with Bravely Default if that had still been developed in house, or for an example that went more divergent the Mana games: they've got shared ground with Final Fantasy whether it's the creatures, the terms, or whatever, but they're not actually SOLD as FF games.

For the record the lock on the Game Journal had a lot to do with the fact that not only was that a topic wholly inappropriate to go on at length in a thread about what you're currently playing, but the thread really was unfathomably long (though perhaps I should've just put a warning out and locked at 500... but I'd probably be careless and fail to notice when it hits that number anyway.) While the gender topic is a bit more appropriate here it REALLY should 1. be its own topic, and 2. be more civil. And yes, ikusagami bares the brunt of this especially since his throwaway comment on Other M started this.

Worth pointing out some things:

1. As noted in the IGN story they used GameSpy servers for Wii/DS online play.

2. GameSpy Technologies have since been bought by Glu mobile, who has since shut down some of the servers for older games and is apparently charging a high fee for continued support.

3. They also will not license their software out anymore, which combined with the former give me the impression they kind of want to kill it and absorb what they acquired into their other services.

I wouldn't be surprised if the costs really were too much now versus when they originally inked the deal.
