"oh...you're a librarian...so you must like books right??"  I get asked this on a weekly basis.  Unfortunately I don't read much outside of Comic Books and Manga so it leads to a lot of awkward conversations with people who still don't understand that a library is so much more than just print material.

which system do you work for?  I'm adult ref at a small carnegie branch of the indianapolis public library system.  I make appalling little for how much school I had to work through but I don't think I could ever do anything else.

I work for a north east Ohio system, part of the CLEVNET consortium. And I totes feel ya on how I'm being compensated, but like you, I don't want to do anything else. I'm lucky though, because part of my job duties is to develop our video game collection, so sometimes I get to look up games and select some for purchase. :)

Fuck it, I'm finally going to slog through all 7.hack games... I've owned them for years and it's about time I got them all out of the way. Dragon Warrior VII can wait another few months.

I actually had a scare over the weekend when I found out my copy of Outbreak had a scratch and froze at a part near the beginning. Thankfully, I have a super nifty device that works wonders on scratched discs.  So now I'm back in the game.

It's kind of funny too, because while everything else .Hack related I have is in pretty good condition, the only other thing that's seen better days is my copy of ".Hack//Another Birth Vol. 3_Outbreak"

I'm a librarian so locating either of those and having them delivered to my branch would take me all of 5 minutes.

Off-topic but:

Also have been playing Five Nights at Freddy's. I'm stuck on Night 2 but I'm loving it. I'm making sure to play in the dark, alone. The game makes good use of the player's tension, since you want to know where the characters are at, and when I see that someone has moved, I panic a little bit and start checking all the cameras until I find them, inadvertently using up power. I've jumped quite a few times. Definitely a worthwhile investment of 5 bucks.

Thats a scottgames game isn't it?
I remember him from his early stuff. Very "unique" art style, rather quirky and a bit creepy. He was also one of very few indie developers that made RPGs in MMF. I'm not sure what Five Nights is made in, but if I was a betting man Id go with MMF or whatever clickteam calls it now.

Beats me. This is my first exposure to his work, albeit a very positive first exposure. I would be willing to check out his other stuff after I finished with FNaF.
4  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Best First Towns in an RPG on: September 08, 2014, 02:20:15 AM
BG2's Athkatla is pretty memorable, which I'd hope so, since it's made up of like 6 different town areas, not to mention all the extra places hidden underneath.

And I'm gonna ditto all of Dice's picks. (SO2fistbump)

I know this is cheating, but I also love the first town you go to after the starting city of Alexandria in FF9: Dali. The music and the design for the town is so serene and calming.

This is also cheating, but I'm going to say most SaGa Frontier towns are quite good and very memorable.

"12.) The game has a save-room hub area"

Fuck yeah. I love it when games have elements like this. Part of what makes a really effective horror game, IMO, is managing the rise and fall of tension. Save-hub rooms are great places to relax a little, let the tension fall and let yourself catch a breath. Looking back to the classic Resident Evil games, I remember feeling relieved when I got a save-hub room, but the whole time there was a little bit of unease because I knew I would eventually have to leave the relative safety of the area and venture back into the dangerous unknown.

EDIT:

Or basically what Yoda said here:

Excellent. The save room music was fantastic in RE.

You felt safe and at ease from the SURVIVAL HORROR

I finished Xenogears about a week and a half ago. Overall I enjoyed it, but whoo boy, the way the story goes in the last 1/3 of the game. Also, the final boss was a decent challenge, although for the record I didn't spend time grinding or getting the best accessories.

Code:
Fei's relationship with Elly is kinda incestuous when you think about it.

I started playing Fable 3. I played it some when it first came out and it disappointed me. However, now that I've had time to properly manage my expectations, I'm finding it to be a fun time. It's nothing "revolutionary," but I'm enjoying it. And the humor is pretty great, just like 2's.

Silent Hill 2 is a great doors-with-broken-locks simulator.

Anyone read Seconds by Bryan Lee O'Malley yet? It's fucking great.

Oh man, loving the Asylum cover. Feels very Hugo's House of Horrors or Alone in the Dark.

Also the Piercing Eye one is now my new background!

I don't know, the Titan has that epic punch that feels SOOO good. Just walk into a level one area and start punching away, and the enemies go flying. I also found an area I didn't know about in the beta, The Grottos. Not to mention I broke the game last night, escaped the map! Fun times.

The titan punch is satisfying, but what sold me on the Hunter was one day I was playing on the Venus map and an enemy jumped up over a ledge and I hit them with a throwing knife right as he came over the edge. It was just so perfectly timed, and total shit at FPS's so that kinda made my evening, haha.

I'm personally loving the Hunter. I know it's cheap, but I can't help but abuse the knife throwing skill.

This is an accurate representation of what I want the next ME game to be.
