It does look like quite a bit of effort has been put into the lore. After the initial shock and coming to terms with some of the bigger changes, I'm slowly starting to warm up to it.

The increased emphasis on story appealed to me. I play Diablo for the story, or at least what there is of it. I remember being playing the first two when I was a kid and thinking they had this unholy coolness about them, and wanting to find out more about the grim secrets lurking in the next dungeon. Diablo has great lore, and I was pleased to see in the demo that they didn't skimp on it.

I played Monk and Demon Hunter. I personally found the latter to be a bit more enjoyable, both in terms of character and play style.

I proudly use the mousepad I got from the first game. It is very comfy for my wrist.

I agree that Sansa and Catelyn are best when accompanied by someone. I think that's why Bran is so insufferable for me. He seldom has anyone major to play off of.

I've only read through the 3rd book, so I can't speak for these characters in the latter books, but...

Bran's chapters get much more interesting nearer the end of the 2nd book, and he has some really good chapters in the 3rd book. While not major, he does get some people to play off of, which definitely improved his chapters in my eyes.

I really like Sansa. Like Neal mentioned, she deals with a lot of cruel shit for a girl her age.

This video sums up my feelings for Sansa, although I think the author exaggerates a bit (Sansa, while capable, is no master of the political game). Despite this exaggeration, the author makes a good point about one of Sansa's scenes near the end of book 2. To me, Sansa is the anti-Cersei, and that scene really paints that image.

Watched a bunch of Adventure Time this past weekend, and I'm 100% convinced Lumpy Space Princess and I are soulmates.

Anyone else watching Mad Men this season? It's about three episodes in (four if you split up the two hour premiere that combined the first two episodes) and so far its very Mad Men-y. I'm surprised by how little attention they've paid to Don in the first few episodes; the focus seems to be on the majority of the cast. I can kinda see why, I thought last season was very Don-heavy, so I guess they wanted to give the other characters some time. Also, Peggy's sense of humor has made almost every scene with her a highlight. She's easily one of my favs.

Beat Mass Effect 3 last night. Loved it overall. Some really strong, emotional moments. Reminds me of my experience finishing the Baldur's Gate trilogy for the first time.

I wanted to move onto something different in tone and look, so I'm playing Vesperia. I got about 1/3 the way through the first time I played, but that was back in '08, so I started over. I just got Karol and am about to go to Halure.
577  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Mass Effect 3 (expect ME1&2 spoilers) on: April 08, 2012, 11:20:12 PM
I just finished the game myself and actually thought the ending was okay. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. But I'm with the last few posters; even if I thought the ending was worthless, it does not demean the hours of emotional high-points and involving story that came before. I played ME3 for the characters more so than any other aspect, and I feel very satisfied with how the characters were treated in the game. Sure, I'd like some sort of denouement and/or epilogue, but honest to god I was moved more in ME3 than in any other game I played, even in the ending. Persona 3 was the last game I beat where I wasn't ready to say good-bye to the characters, but ME3 has provoked a stronger response out of me than P3 did. I know, I'm a total fanboy about ME, but I loved this game and the series as a whole and I'm wondering when it'll be before I play a game where I give as much of a shit about the characters as I did in ME3. :/

Hey, just curious, but CT, XG, and CC all had strong themes of reincarnation to them (less literal in CT, but definitely prevalent if you think about it). They also involved making contact with an extraterrestrial force that affected mankind's destiny.

So, I know that XS has the extraterrestrial contact thing, but does it go into the reincarnation stuff as well?

Considering the Big Bad's primary MO, I'd say yes.

If I remember correctly, Wilhelm's primary motive was to turn time into a big circle of sorts. He wanted to make the time the game takes place essentially the end, and have it all reset and begin again, and then get to that point and reset and begin again. I may be wrong, but this is what I recall his MO being.

Did the Rannoch part of ME3.

Seriously, that whole storyline was worth the purchase itself. I almost cried when

Legion sacrificed himself.

Also played some of the multiplayer. I'm reeeeeaaaallllyyyy liking Drell Adept, and playing a support role. Lift/Reave is a great combo. Dealing damage is crap though. I'm happy to see I'm getting better as well and outside of one player who would shoot me and others between waves, I've had no real problems with anyone else. Honestly, its like being in an elevator when it comes to the chatter.
580  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: 6 Endings worse than ME3 on: April 06, 2012, 12:00:58 AM
Would SO3's ending been better if the universe was destroyed?  Then people would go, "*WHIIINE* What did I do all that work for!?!?".  Blame that for it's "big reveal", not its ending.  And Christ, it wasn't that bad.  I'm willing to file most of FF8's plot as worse for it's cheese factor, and Star Ocean 2's for being astronomically impossible.

Well the thing is,

that is exactly why I hate the ending. The universe is destroyed, and as Ashton points out, it boils down to everyone BELIEVING they exist. It just made the whole final boss thing pointless. They were trying to stop their galaxy from being destroyed, and it happens anyway.

But you're right; I did whine and go, "What was the point of all that!" ;)

Having not beaten ME3 yet, I can't truly compare, but I'll be sorely surprised if its ending is worse than Star Ocean 3's. I friggin hate that ending with every fiber of my being.

I mean

The whole point of the last 1/3 of the game is too stop Luther from deleting the big MMO everyone lives in or some shit, and after you beat him, HE DELETES IT ANYWAY. And then you get some Care-Bear bullshit about believing you exist or whatever. It's the fact that he does the thing you were trying to stop him from doing that renders the whole fight and last 1/3 of the game pretty much meaningless. And Luther sucked balls at being an antagonist; they don't show him until the end, so you don't even know who he really is, and then when you meet him, his reason for destroying the world boils down to him being crazy.

Actually, I've only beaten one game on this list (MGS2), and I didn't think the ending was that bad. Just waaaaayyyyyy too many unanswered questions.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Premiere

Pretty much what I expected from Game of Thrones, which is excellence. Good episode, but not a ton happens; more like a status update on everyone from last season to now, as well show how relationships between characters have changed. Tyrion is still awesome, and has some really great lines. Surprisingly, my favorite scene was actually with Cersei and Littlefinger:

Littlefinger: Knowledge is power, dumbbutt.
Cersei: lol no. Power is power, assface.

At boyfriends, doing homework. I got some sort of weird flu thing, cause my body aches and I'm feeling nauseous, and I've been getting chills. Makes doing homework more of a chore than it needs to be. Hopefully I'll be in good sorts to get Chinese take-out later tonight.

The dothraki king looks like:

I very much approve of Drogo's casting; Mr. Momoa is certainly a comely gentleman.
I agree with Grim about the Hound. Compared to how wild he comes off in the books, his portrayal in the show is very low-key. He almost comes off as a broken dog.
585  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What one RPG would you award 100% to? on: March 27, 2012, 04:31:54 PM
I'll join the bandwagon and say that I have not played a game that I think deserves a 100%, but there are two I consider really close.

The first is Baldur's Gate 2. Everything about it I loved, but the best parts were the characters and writing. I remember getting giddy when a dialogue box would pop up and one of the chars would banter with another, or having my char develop a romance with Aerie, or having all the chars give a little speech to the main antagonist right before the final battle. These things wow'd me more so than any other game has, with only the Mass Effect series collectively coming close.

The second is Persona 3. Same song and dance; I loved the chars, the story, but it was the presentation that really sold me. Everything about that game oozed the running themes of hipness, youth, vigor, excitement and uncertainty. From the music, to the battle animations, to menu screen, this game had more style than anything else I  had ever played, and the only game that I think beats it is Persona 4, but I have fonder memories of 3. Persona 3 is the only game I wish I could "forget" so I could go back and re-experience it all over again with fresh eyes.
