661  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Internet Dating, A.K.A. How to Scar Yourself Forever on: July 31, 2011, 09:52:15 PM
I met my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years on a dating site. That was after a year of getting disappointed, but in the end it was worth it. I had to try a few sites (all free) but I eventually found one that worked out, despite it having a rather nasty reputation. If I had to, I would also use a dating site again, since I think the successes greatly outweigh the disappointments.

BTW, I retract my statement. I'm playing now and yes, even on a 360 you want to use the D-pad. It is light-years better than the analog stick.
Also, I'm not much of a puzzle guy, but I do find the climbing pretty fun. Pretty surprised at that.

I agree. The tower-climbing parts have a strange appeal that don't really make it feel much like a puzzle game. For the same reasons, I really hate the Rapunzel mini-game. I'm so bad at it, and stuck on 7th stage and really have just given up on it. Getting that achievement will be a huge pain.

Up to the 4th day and over all I'm loving it. However Atlus loses major points for some really, really bad sound editing that makes it hard to enjoy the game. I have my TV cranked up to 61 and I can just barely hear the normal dialog. Often when music plays that normal dialog becomes unhearable. Here's the kicker though; the anime cutscenes at that same volume are incredibly loud. I basically have to play a sub-mini game with my remote to turn the volume down as soon as they appear lest my eardrums bleed out. This problem was present in the demo and it's very questionable as to why they didn't fix this in the production copy. Someone obviously just didn't give a crap. :-\

Wound up going on Easy difficulty and some of these stages are kicking my behind. Nothing unbeatable though. Can't wait to try it on harder difficulties and to utterly be a jerk in the next playthrough. Right now I'm trying to balance the scale between Law and Chaos without slipping too far to one side and as a result most of Vincent's replies in the sections where it seems your gauge's standing point determines the cut scene reaction are quite believable; so I really want to see how these differ during the extremes.

Aside from those complaints though it's a solid title. Writing's great, characters are great, gameplay's great. Best day one buy I've had in quite some time.

Edit: Forgot to mention- If you're hooked up to online with your console whenever you make a choice in the confessional you get a chart that shows you the rough percentage of how many other people playing the game chose what option. It's quite interesting to see how the results stack up.

I haven't noticed this specific audio problem, but I've found that sometimes the lines run a little close together, especially with Trisha in the beginning. But yeah, I am really digging the game. I'm also at end of the 4th stage, and while I'm a tad disappointed with the length, I can tell this'll be a game I'll replay more than a few times.

The puzzle/nightmare part is demonstrating how bad I am under pressure. I mostly panic and push/pull like crazy until a path appears. And I'm definitely steering towards Katherine, and prolly will go the opposite next play-through and a neutral route for the third, but I'm wondering how this game has eight endings.

Finally got a chance at the demo. I am digging the style so much! I cannot wait to play it tomorrow. And luckily I got tomorrow and Wednesday off, and my car's in the shop, so I have a rock-solid excuse to stay home and play it all day. :D

Been on a massive Dragon Age Crusade. Beat Origins for a second time, played and beat Awakening for the first time, and started DA2 for the first time. I'm thinking it's high time to take a tiny break. I got exams this week and an essay to write and if I start playing DA2 more then I will never stop. D:

Also bought Plants vs. Zombies on Steam when it was 4 dollars, and it's such a fun little game. I remember playing and beating it back in 09, but its still killer fun.

Also also bought Dead Space on Steam for 5 dollars, and gonna start that sometime soon. Preferably tonight and alone with headphones.

I got a serious case of senioritis. I'm in my last 6 weeks of undergrad and I'm having a hard time summoning the motivation to slog through it all. Because of this, I've become quite the whiny bitch.

In other news, I shaved my beard off for the first time in 2 1/2 years and I miss it so much now. D: /beardangst

It would be cool if we got it, and I'd definitely pick it up. I've heard good things about 4.

I should put an ad on craigslist "I'll be your designated driver for money"

I'll be your designated driver/ Driving for money/Go where you want me to go

"A Bard Bumped Mercy Johns".

I heard Mercy Johns is an insufferable prick, so I don't think anyone minded.

My haps include an essay on Depression-era Abortion that I am reading and a German essay about the one time I was on an old train in the Czech Republic countryside and realized that I did not speak Czech so how in the hell am I going to get around.

Just watched A Game of Thrones.

It. was. AWESOME! I've never seen an adaptation follow the source material so closely before. It was perfect. I think I'm going really enjoy watching this.

Misc comments:

My boyfriend and I have never seen so many fucking tits. Seriously, naked females galore. To be fair though, there was a nice group of shirtless guys at one point.

I have high hopes for the actors playing Tyrion and Cersei. They are damn good.

Sansa is older looking that what I had pictured in my head, but that may have been my own fault.

My boyfriend is pretty taken with the actor who plays Jon Snow. XD

But yeah, HOLY SHIT I loved it. It moves pretty quick, and some minor things were changed, but I seriously loved it.

Also, the title sequence is one of the best I've seen since Rome. It gave me chills.

Twin Peaks is now on instant watch, I probably would've liked it when it was on the air but I was 9, so I get a pass.

I love Twin Peaks so much. Now I need to watch the opening credits just for the discomforting music.

Getting Mad Men from Netflix and one disc away from the end of the 1st Season. This show is crazy good. Favorite characters so far are Betty and Joan, although that may change in the coming seasons.

In between Mad Men discs I've been watching Xena, and its just awesome. Such an involving, silly show. And I want Lucy Lawless's pouting, dangerous Xena face on my tombstone when I die.

Didn't anyone here get this? I thought we had a ton of ME fans here?

I'll buy it at some point, probably not long before ME3 is released to refresh my memory. It was a great game, but the only DLC that really seemed worth making a priority was LotSB. Going back to a game just to play 1 or 2 hour snippets doesn't really interest me that much, so I'll be going through this, Overlord and the Kasumi DLC when the time comes.

Same here. I really have yet to see a DLC that makes me think "Oh, gotta get that now!" Cause by the time the DLC does roll around, I've already beaten the game and moved on.

TurnBasedDude's review practically just made it a must have for me - the games drawbacks aren't something I would consider a major flaw compared to other people and it's highlights are usually my favourite things about JRPGs.

This is the same for me. A rich character driven narrative? Yes please! And from the sounds of it, this game is long enough that by the time I'm done with it, I'll probably want a nice break, which will make the wait time between this one and the 2nd Chapter not so bad.
