The Witcher - another hour or two.  Fortunately (?) an issue with an NPC sent me back to an earlier save, so I apparently hadn't used my talent points yet.  I also wandered around a bit to get some additional stuff done prior to advancing the main plot.  Despite the fact the game clearly suffers from Planescape: Torment syndrome in terms of its misogynistic presentation, that hasn't been too much of an issue, and at least unlike PST, it is there to serve a purpose in this setting.

PST was misogynistic? How so? I'm not disagreeing with you, it's just been years since I've played it, so whatever misogynistic elements there were I missed.

Haven't played anything on account of research paper, but I'm planning on turning in a rough draft tomorrow and finally getting around to finishing Mass Effect 2. After that, probably Resident Evil 2 or 3. Maybe both in a marathon.

While waiting for the snow (I can't believe my district issued a snow day.  It's good outside; snow won't hit till evening) the movie Heathers was on TV.  Easily my favorite 80's movie and just a fantastic movie overall.  The writing is so good in the movie; so many quotable lines.

Whenever MeshGearFox describes Ohio, I always envision it to be just like the movie Heathers.

I loved Heathers, if only just for the "fuck me gently with a chainsaw" quote. :P I'm also a Winona fan, so it helps.

And if only the parts of Ohio where I come from were like that. We only have Amish, farms, and churches. Actually, scratch that. I'd rather do without the murderin'.

In movie related news, I watched half of Marie Antoinette. The scenery was well done, but the movie could not decide what it was. Also, the range of accents amongst the actors just threw me. I was also disappointed with Kirsten Dunst's acting, I think she could have done better.

Being able to do the chicks you get in your party.

Okay, now for the serious answer: Being able to adjust the sound, music, and voice volume in games. Oh, and changing the dialogue of NPC's after certain intervals in the story.

Also, I know it's rather silly and less applicable in today's games, but I've always liked it when you could change the color of the dialogue box. Added a nice little personal touch to the game.

I'm looking forward to it, but I don't have a PS3, and I cannot afford one right now. Once I can, this will be game #1 for me. I hope it gets ported to PC/360 so hard.

It's a Sony franchise.

Darn, missed that bit of info. Oh well, might as well stop reading about it before I get too attached.

Yeah, I'm a little surprised at how close I am. Don't really care to play again right away though, though I'm wondering how I didn't get any points towards the Incinerate achievement.

Are you playing a class with biotic powers? Cause I'm playing soldier and the only way I get kills with it is when I make someone else use it. If they use it on their own, it doesn't count for me.

Anyone else notice the Baldur's Gate cameo in the game?

If you the mean
Code:
space hamster
then yeah. I totally bought it too, how could you not?

More Mass Effect 2. Did Mordin's and Grunt's loyalty quests. Grunt's was pretty good, and I like how Bioware is implementing more quests that aren't just "Dungeon, kill, leave." Well, this one wasn't terribly groundbreaking, but it was nice to see some thought paid to changing things up a bit. I also feed my fishies every time I get back to the Normandy. Already had a few die on me.

Playing Mass Effect 2 and loving the hell out of it. Good to be able to play with my Shep from the first one again. Got the first group of recruits, now on the way to getting the second, as well as doing sidequests. Planet scanning is tedious as hell, which is why I'm being more liberal in how much attention I pay towards it. My Shep romanced Ashley from the first game, and I'm torn between staying faithful or being a philanderer. :P
745  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How long do you play games a day? on: January 31, 2010, 02:54:40 AM
Like most replys, depends on the day. On weekends that I don't work, I play games for stupid amounts of time, that is when I'm not with the bf or have homework. Most days I can probably squeeze 2-3 hours in if I procrastinate, but this quarter is fucking me in the eye so I can't play as much as I used. I play more than I should because currently I use games to relax, but of course this trend will slow down the later I get into the quarter.

Count me in as being excited for ME2. I wanna get through this second playthrough soon so I can import both Sheps. I've been checking the site every day just to see if they posted some new vid or whatever.

In anticipation of Mass Effect 2, I've started a new game in the original. At first I made a FemShep Vanguard, with aspirations of doing Renegade, but I'm too much of a pussy to actually make many of the Renegade decisions. So, then I made a DudeShep Infiltrator, and of course aiming at Paragon. My first Shep was also Paragon, but he did have around 25% Renegade at the end, so I know I am capable of doing Renegade somewhat.

Started playing WoW after bf and friends got me into it. Playing a troll mage and got him to level 17 so far. I have mixed feelings about the game at the moment, but I'm having fun overall.

Finished Dragon Age: Origins and am completely floored. Haven't had a game experience like that since P3. Not that they were very similar, but they both elicited the same kind of feeling after I finish them, the same kinda melancholy feeling I got when I was younger when I finished a really good game or book and was sad for it to be over. I'm gonna genuinely miss the experience. Here's to a sequel coming out in the near future. *raises glass*

since I think it shares more with English than other languages since they're both Germanic, but I could be wrong

In order of most to least closely related to English, you have Scots, Frisian, Dutch, and German, with Afrikaans probably being somewhere between Dutch and German since it's an offshoot of Dutch. Also some people debate whether or not Scots is a language or a dialect. Additionally the weird Scottish accent in Dragon Quest 4 was not in fact Scottish English but a sort of pidginized Scots, I think?.

Also "German" and "Dutch" are more bizarre dialect continuums in the sense that Scots and English are probably equally/more mutually intelligible than, say, Hochdeutsch and Bavarian are.

Anyway, despite being less related, Swedish is faaaaaar easier than German for an English speaker. Namely, only two genders, fairly regular pluralization, verbs don't conjugate, and no cases. Also the general sentence logic is closer to English.

Ah, I stand corrected then. :)  You're right, the small amount of Swedish I've been exposed to has appeared more logically similar to English.
