Bought Munchkin Cthulhu, which inspired me to read more Lovecraft. I just finished "The Music of Erich Zann" and am now starting "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward." I'm thinking about starting a drinking game where you take a drink every time Lovecraft refers to something as either unspeakable or indescribable.

Playing Umineko. Well, more like reading, but I'm liking it so far. The music hasn't been as spooky as Higurashi's, and the characters aren't as memorable yet, but they're still fun. No repeat characters at least.

Star Ocean:  Til the End of Time

I was enjoying the story and game in general until it started getting repetitive and unfortunately having an overly-large plot line that was abruptly ended.

Needless to say, this one game has kind of soured me on the Star Ocean franchise.

I totally agree, except for the souring part. The epic awfulness of the ending overshadows the plot twist IMO. Probably the most worthless-ass final boss fight ever too.

Code:
Honestly, you were fighting Luther to stop him from deleting the Eternal Sphere's data, only to have him DELETE IT when you beat him. Oh yeah, way to make me feel like I accomplished something.
769  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: JRPGs are total shit, WRPGs are THE shit on: July 08, 2009, 11:57:43 PM
I hate these discussions.

SMT Nocturne and Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines are two of my favorite RPGs.

It's silly to say one is exclusively better than the other. Each has merits and flaws, there's nothing to stop someone from enjoying both.

I feel the same. Baldur's Gate 2 is tied with Persona 3 as my favorite RPGs.

Finished up Mana Khemia and Star Ocean: TLH finally. Good thing Star Ocean's battle system is super fun, otherwise I would have thrown my controller at the screen in frustration. I also started and finished .hack//G.U. Vol. 1. I don't think I'll do all the tedious extra stuffs, and will just go on to the next game. It is a fun game though, I'm liking it.
771  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Genso Suikoden. on: June 28, 2009, 05:32:59 PM
To be honest, I liked Suikoden 4 a lot, but it's the only game where I can see legitimate reasons as to why people wouldn't like it.

I agree. 4 is easily the weakest, but it wasn't a bad game IMO, it just felt more lazy and unpolished when compared to the other entries. To be honest, I think 4's strategist was my favorite of the series (not counting 2 or Tierkreis, I haven't played either).

I wish I had been more aware of LucasArts games when they were still available, since my interest in them started long after their time. But hopefully Monkey Island will be successful and inspire Telltale and LucasArts to give DotT the same treatment they're giving Secret of Monkey Island.

Borrowed .hack//G.U. 1-3 from a friend, but I'm gonna put those on hold while I beat a few backlogged games. The first is Mana Khemia, and I'm pretty certain I'm at the last dungeon, and considering I have everyone's Growbook almost maxed, I'm not expecting a lot of problems. Up next: SO4.
774  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star on: June 09, 2009, 09:29:43 PM
So judging from the interview on the news page, is it safe to assume that Victor Ireland has no association with the new Lunar release?

I don't think that's a safe assumption, but I am not sure one way or the other.

Though, I am interested in knowing everyone's opinion in terms of the Lunar PSP localization. Given the choices of:

1) retranslated Lunar PSP (since it is a new script) that retains much of the "feel" of Working Designs Lunar, including character names, NPCs with that distinct brand of personality, etc

I'd choose this one. Honestly, without WD's translation I don't think Lunar would have been all that charming for me. But granted, my opinion is biased since I have yet to play a non-WD translation of the game.

These are the only ones that I could come up with:

Miscellaneous Games -
The games you're not ashamed to show your friends

Anime, TV, and Movies -
It's all porn anyways
776  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: June 07, 2009, 09:21:29 PM
Gran Torino.  That was the best movie I've seen in quite a while.

Ditto on this one. It was very, very good. Definitely not the kind of movie I was expecting.

I watched Let the Right One In and Amelie yesterday and today. Both were really well done, and Amelie has to be the cutest movie I've seen a long time. It was a feel good movie, but without becoming saccharine.
777  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: June 06, 2009, 12:29:38 AM
I've been trying to watch more movies lately, so here's my contributions:

Mulholland Dr. - What a wonderful puzzle of a movie.

Little Miss Sunshine - It's National Lampoon's Family Vacation except indier and darker.

Heathers - Silly teen angst movie, but nice dark humor fun. Best line ever: "Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw."

Up next:

Amelie

Let the Right One In

In regards to L4D2, I'm wary of how good it will be coming out only a year after its predecessor, but in all honesty, I doubt it'll be a true "sequel". I hope I'm wrong though, and that they add more content then just recycling the old stuff with some new things tacked on. The trailer set a really good mood though, and I really like the new survivors, from what we got to see of them.
779  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: New Monkey Island on: June 01, 2009, 07:38:00 PM
This is awesome news! Telltale games did a really good job with Sam & Max IMO, so if Monkey Island had to fall into anyone's hands, I'm glad it is theirs.
780  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Bayonetta on: May 27, 2009, 03:43:15 PM
I'm totally sold on this game. There wasn't a single thing I saw that didn't look like crazy-good fun. Also, I'm really digging the music too; it reminds me of DMC but with more of a jazzy edge.
