Gran Torino.  That was the best movie I've seen in quite a while.

Ditto on this one. It was very, very good. Definitely not the kind of movie I was expecting.

I watched Let the Right One In and Amelie yesterday and today. Both were really well done, and Amelie has to be the cutest movie I've seen a long time. It was a feel good movie, but without becoming saccharine.

I've been trying to watch more movies lately, so here's my contributions:

Mulholland Dr. - What a wonderful puzzle of a movie.

Little Miss Sunshine - It's National Lampoon's Family Vacation except indier and darker.

Heathers - Silly teen angst movie, but nice dark humor fun. Best line ever: "Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw."

Up next:

Let the Right One In

In regards to L4D2, I'm wary of how good it will be coming out only a year after its predecessor, but in all honesty, I doubt it'll be a true "sequel". I hope I'm wrong though, and that they add more content then just recycling the old stuff with some new things tacked on. The trailer set a really good mood though, and I really like the new survivors, from what we got to see of them.

This is awesome news! Telltale games did a really good job with Sam & Max IMO, so if Monkey Island had to fall into anyone's hands, I'm glad it is theirs.

I'm totally sold on this game. There wasn't a single thing I saw that didn't look like crazy-good fun. Also, I'm really digging the music too; it reminds me of DMC but with more of a jazzy edge.

Wonderful teaser, I hope the wait won't be too long. I'm very much interested in seeing how some of the decisions, (especially the two key ones at the end) will affect the 2nd's story. I love it in games when it show's how my decisions affected the world and the people around my main character.

I personally loved Working Designs translation, since most the humor was either appropriate to the situation or wasn't intrusive. Given that, I'm ambivalent on my opinion of another remake, I dunno if it'll have the same charm as WD's version.

I've never played any of the AI games, but I did enjoy MK. It was a fun, light-hearted game that you wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, similar to FFX-2 and Steambot Chronicles in terms of tone. From what I read, this game has the option of choosing between two main characters with their own stories, which brings to mind Star Ocean 2, which is a very good thing.
804  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Gayming, as it were. on: May 08, 2009, 04:09:53 PM
I'm all for including homosexuality in video games... as long as it isn't there simply as titlating fodder for straight gamers. I DO NOT see Mass Effect's lesbian relationship as a step-forward for gay rights, for instance... in fact I see it more as an objectification of lesbianism for the enjoyment of straight males. Maybe it was fairly tastefull, maybe it wasn't even neccessarily unethical, but let's not kid ourselves either.

Which actually brings up a problem I have with Alisha's "interpretations": Fanwank. I find it awfully offensive to the original material when people do this kind of crap. Perhaps that's why I don't like fanfiction in general (especially not pornfics), though there are occasions when a fanwriter can do the original material justice. One of the most frequent and offensive subversions is homo-to-hetero or hetero-to-homo (the latter being more common). It reaches a degree of way-more-offensive when straight females transform straight males into homosexuals (owing to the issue where straight females have no god damned clue what being a male homosexual is like -- I don't either, but then I'm not doing this), but it's ridiculous either way.

Hrist = Not a lesbian.
Aelia = Also not a lesbian.

Fear Effect on the other hand? Go nuts. :P
well it's not like I write fanfics or something. it's just something to help me forge an attachment with a character. but sometimes it backfires on me such as in the case of Raquel in the ending of WA4,and Tear when she blurts out that she loves luke at the end of the game. oftentimes when i see a depiction of love in a rpg between a male and female such as the scene near the end of FFX i feel like a fish out of water. maybee it's partly jealousy since the last time my girlfriend kissed me in public someone threw food at me >_>

I know it might not be much, but Hanako Games's OEL Visual Novel "Fatal Hearts" has a girl/girl ending pairing. I liked it a lot better than some of the girl/guy pairings.

Started playing Yo-Jin-Bo with relcutance, since there's not a lot of non-H visual novels available in English, so I'm hesitant to exhaust my options. I've been enjoying it so far, probably gonna do Ittosai's route first.

Spend way too much time in front of my computer. :P

Outside of that, I don't really have much. I read, but not as much as I should. And I swim for exercise purposes about once a week.

I'm hoping for Atlus, I figure they'd give it the treatment it deserves.

Awesome, can't wait to hear what they have in store for it. I wonder if it'll implement the increased level cap included in the DLC or if it'll stick to just 20 lvls.

Been on a vampire kick and watched "Interview with the Vampire" and "30 Days of Night." I really enjoyed "Interview," and 30 Days was okay. Really glad they didn't change much for it, but then again, the orginal graphic novel was fairly simple to begin with.
810  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: POLL: Fable 2 or Mass Effect on: April 17, 2009, 11:56:55 PM
In Fable 2's defense, it's a very charming game. It's quite humorous, never takes itself too seriously, and easy to lose yourself in. I had a lot of fun with it and definitely don't regret buying it.  Not to say that Mass Effect doesn't have all these same qualities, but just because Mass Effect is a better game in comparison, doesn't make Fable 2 a bad game. Not that I'm accusing anyone of saying this of course. :P
