Ehh, I don't know. Would have been more interesting if it was a full release instead of Dsiware stuff. A Fire Emblem style DQ game? Yes, please.

Yeeeeeeah. How far are you? They become a lot shorter and a lot less frequent after, uh, the blitzball tournament. IIRC, that's the longest cutscene up till like, Suteki Da Ne.

I stopped after Tidus met Yuna, not sure.

Good to know the cut-scenes become less frequent though. I haven't played a game that had so many in such a short period of time like FFX has.

EOII - Retired my Medic, next will be the Protector. The +10 bonus to all stats is very nice.

FFX - Why is that every 5 minutes there is a cut-scene? I wonder if I will be able to, you know, play this game instead of watching it. People weren't exaggerating about this being a cinematic RPG. Good thing I only rented it.

Was about to create a topic about it. G/S was great, the best generation in my opinion. I hope that the remakes maintain the quality of the originals.

The names are pretty lame though. HeartGold?

The real enemy is Gamefaqs and their "BEST ________ EVER!" tournaments.

I remember when the L block won of these polls. It was great. :P

Nice read.

It's funny, but the article reminds me of the Wii. I'm tired of people on the internet claiming "Wii is killing the industry!" and Nintendo fans being like "Oh noes, they betrayed us!"

Glad to hear you're enjoying DQVIII, Akanbe-. Been a while since I played DQ8, but I will try to help.

- I chose staves for Jessica. She learns both support (Kasap, Magic Barrier and the useful Caduceus) and offensive spells (Frizzle, Sizzle).

- I think it is. You learn Holy Protection, which lowers random encounters and the Zap spells.

- I went with spears just because I thought they were cooler than swords. However, in terms of "the best of", swords win. The ultimate weapon in the game is a sword that can only be equipped by the MC.

In Persona 4, I thought Naoto and Kanji were much easier to relate to XD

Good to know I'm not alone :P

EOII - Reached the 30th floor and was brutally killed by a FOE. Guess it's time to hunt down those dragons, retire a few characters and farm the bosses...

Pokemon. Hundreds and hundreds of hours wasted.

Pokemon = timesink. If I'm not mistaken, I've logged 180h+ in Pokemon Gold.

Well, if handhelds count as "current-gen" then the top ones for me so far were the Dragon Quest remakes and Etrian Odyssey.

I'm guilty of #1-#3. :P
283  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: would you say the older you get, the less fun games are on: March 31, 2009, 06:41:39 PM
Things are better when you're young because you're both ignorant and creative. Maybe I'll be playing phantasy star and make up conversations between characters or imagine fights as more than I see on screen, because hey, I'm 12 and I can do that. You grow up and what you're given is what you get.

Nah, I think that depends just as much on the game as on the player. My imagination is going to be filling in blanks for the DS DQ games and especially Etrian Odyssey because there's that much more room for my imagination. A lot of modern RPGs have you see everything the characters do and they even constantly talk in battles, so there simply aren't any blanks for your imagination to fill in. Also, I've just found either a great justification for first person battles or psychological insight into why people do/don't like them!

Quoted for truth.

EOII - Beat the Overlord. Thought I could return to town to rest, but no, you have to fight both of his forms without heading back... at least he was easier than those Evildra FOEs. After that I watched the ending and now I'm doing the required quests to gain full access to the last stratum.

EOII - Last floor of the 5th stratum. Overlord's first form was so easy, Smite+Viper got the job done. Got killed while fighting his second form (which looks pretty cool) since I didn't return to town to heal/restock. Gonna finish the remaining quests, grind a little more and then try again.
