271  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How long is looooooooooooooong? on: July 10, 2009, 12:35:45 PM
Nowadays I prefer games that I can finish in around 30h. It's time enough to develop a nice story, characters and complete most, if not all side-quests. However, once in a while I like to take on major time consuming games (like DQ8 or Persona 3, both completed around 80~90h).

More and more damning evidence that technology ruined JRPGs.

Reminds me that animu style usually doesn't render well in 3d, unless it's cel-shaded.

And WTFRPG rocks, best subgenre ever.

A classical FF game? Sounds interesting... Need more info to judge though.

I noticed both RPGaymer and Gamespot both complained about lack of voice acting.

In a DS game.

There are a few DS games with VA out there (FFIV being a prominent example). But I'm still with you here. VA ought not be mandatory.

DS games could also be like TWEWY in which only a few lines and expressions were voiced. However, I'll agree that VA in games, in special DS games, should be an optional "feature".

Scene #20-something in Knights in the Nightmare. There is a boss that reminds me way too much of Orochi (Okami). I've beaten it for the third time and it still isn't dead. Talk about being persistent.

276  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Dragon Quest IX Footage on: June 22, 2009, 10:53:52 AM
Reminds me so much of DQIII, which is great. Character customization + job system = win.

Finally received my copy. Besides the loooong tutorial, I'm really enjoying the game. Never thought that the end result of the shmup + srpg mix would be this fun.

Dragon Quest VI and IX.
279  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The awful war between JRPGFans and WRPGFans on: June 17, 2009, 06:59:23 AM
These "wars" are so retarded. Console wars, hardcore vs. casual players and now wRPG vs. jRPG, with the occasional jRPG bashing. Yeah right, what's going to be the next trend?

Is there a hard mode after you beat the game the first time?

Yup, there's Hard and Nightmare modes. Not sure if you need to beat the game in Hard to unlock Nightmare.
281  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FFXIII Japanese vs English Voice Acting Comparison on: June 10, 2009, 08:03:18 PM
DQVIII voices were superb, best dub I've heard.

I wonder why FFXIII does not come with dual audio option. I mean, space shouldn't be a problem with blu-ray.

The reviews I've read so far we mostly positive, which is good. Can't wait to play this one, but only god knows when I will receive my copy.

Did you people get the artbook?

Finished TWEWY. Nice ending and all, but it would be better if everything was revelead without the need to replay the game. Probably going to hit GameFaqs to read those Ansem secret reports.
284  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: E3 - Nintendo on: June 03, 2009, 07:44:31 PM
It's been confirmed that the game is set between Super Metroid and Fusion.
285  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: E3 - Nintendo on: June 02, 2009, 06:30:08 PM
I do hope, however, that this takes place after Fusion and is basically Metroid V. Remember that Metroid IV left on a huge cliffhanger: pitting Samus against the rest of humanity, and infused with Metroid DNA. Even though Fusion had (IMO) pretty lame gameplay, the story was one of the best in the franchise, it would be nice to continue where that left off.

As much as I want a Metroid V, I think Other M will be set before Fusion.

See the "Any objections, Lady?" line. It's Adam. Unless it's a flashback...

I'm pumped for Metroid and Golden Sun... maybe Glory of Heracles, but I have to hear more about this one.
