Playing some Hyrule Warriors again. Still a fun game a year later. ;)

I love the way she looks (even if it's Dragon Crown's "elf" basically drawn up by a different artist), I'm kinda blue that this is a "Team Ninja thing" more than Nintendo might ever dare to use it again.  I'd love a gender option at the start of future titles.

Agreed. We need Gandorella. ;)

Alright, see ya next year. ;)

Game Journals / Re: Retro Encounter Podcast Thread

Commentary on 4-1:

- The Last Story has some awesome music.  Really enjoying the background tunes on this episode.

- I assumed that anyone who would go to the trouble to use an un-dub on a console JRPG must be an insufferable snob who hates all dubs regardless of quality; the sort of yo-yo who watches Cowboy Bebop with subtitles.  But now Mr. Un-Dub on this podcast said plainly (and with no hint of bitterness) that he didn't hate the dub in The Last Story.  Perhaps I need to re-think my vicious stereotype of un-dub users?

Onward to 4-2:

- LOOOOOOOVE the music at the beginning of this episode!  This should be the theme music for Retro Encounter.  It works so well.

The name of that track for Episode 4-2 is "Being Congenial" and was also one of my picks for Episde 22.9 of Rhythm Encounter. ;) It was one of my favorite tracks in The Last Story, and for whatever reason appears either once or twice throughout the whole game!

If you're liking the music for The Last Episode, you're going to love Episode 4-3, since that's where The Last CD is jammed into (it has a lot of jucy music in there). ;)

And that stupid song that played.

But.... "Peace of the World" is one of my all-time favorite tracks from any VG OST!  T___T

(old) I actually meant this in a good way. I loved whistling it... D:
Tales of the....!!!

Have you heard it's main theme yet? ;)

  • Siren
  • Rule of Rose
  • Haunting Grounds
  • Clock Tower 1 & 3 (#2 is a really good comedy ;))
  • Friday the 13th nes game
  • F.E.A.R.
  • Resident Evil (series)
  • Nanashi no Game
  • Corpse Party
  • Ao Oni
  • Skinwalker

Siren, the original, PS2 one, downright creeps me out. Same deal with Rule of Rose.

It wasn't universally liked, but I was a fan of a game called Shadow of Destiny (Shadow of Memories in Japan).  In it, you travel through time trying to prevent your own murder and find out who keeps trying to kill you.

Wait, so Shadow of Destiny wasn't a comic adventure? ;)

You linked Duke Silver just to pander to me and I'm okay with it.

This does sound like a good idea!

haha maybe indirectly. xD
Naw, the podcast also referenced him. x), don't remember who exactly said "someone will get that reference".

That was Mike. ;)

There's also The Middens if you really feel like going too deep.

{Looks up Middens. Watches Youtube trailer.}

...Whelp. Now I need to go play this game. Thanks for mentioning it, seriously, because it looks amazing.

After you play Middens, be sure to play Gingiva.

Let me edit this game as well: Toilet in Wonderland. This game is perfect.

A youtuber to check out that plays a bunch of rpgmaker games is ManlyBadassHero. He plays a lot of them (Middens including) and they are very interesting to watch (while some downright creepy).

Ah! I saw that Sheena drawing on tumblr the other night when I zipping through the daily posts! That's some quality stuff there. ;)

thoughts: I must be the only one on here that's interested in this kind of thing.

That's not true. ;) Personally, I've just busy with retro encounter and working most days at my full time job.

I always appreciate when someone goes out of their way for data/info-gathering. ;) I do the same for indie composers/videogame music/music in general and have amassed multiple, long-winded notepad files (You should see my game/anime mashup tracklist and arranger list). ;)

In regards to your post:

That's really interesting information their on the excel file! ;) Interesting seeing names like "Fairchild Channel F" and "Arcadia 2001" in that list. So, out of curiosity, do you happen to own a copy of "Game Machines" by Winnie Foster? I think you might enjoy that book, especially just the infodump about every console/handhelp/etc they cover in the book in the appendix. :)

I just ordered that book for purchase at IndyPL.  THANKS!

Very nice! Let me know what you think of it after it comes in. I really like all the interesting tidbits about each console and the pictures. Man, when I saw the amount of pictures in this book, I was so happy! I've read enough info-dump books where it describes something in great detail, but sometimes I just want to look at pictures.

Hey, I got mentioned in the most recent episode!

Good music choices in this episode by the way--I can't get enough of the Tactics battle music!

Yep! I remember that either this show or the last one, during the pre-recording I had to leave the room for a moment. When I returned and put my headset on, I believe the other members were talking about how to pronounce marshmallow. I had absoultely no clue why the heck they were talking about that until later when I found it they were talking about you. For a while I thought they were just all talking about marshmallows, like, did I miss something important or a punchline, lol? ;)

And yes, battle music from this game rocks. And this will remain true for our next game as well. ;)
