So were changing the issue from combo execution to people spamming online. Is that the best barometer for judging competitive gameplay?

Even guilty gear would be susceptible to crouched 2p during block strings online.

I just realized something.  Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast came out a decade ago.  Which means we've known each other (somewhat) for a decade.

Holy shit I feel old.

In a related note I read this comment on youtube for cherub rock by smashing pumkins

Honestly so many people complain about Guitar Hero attracting "posers", but it was because of that game I started asking my dad about bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Bad Religion that got my musical tastes as they are today. Or as i say, the right way XD

I remember when dad rock used to be 'cream' or 'the alman brothers'. That was a sucker punch indeed.

However it's hard for me to take it seriously as a fighting game when super meter generates so fast and *BC super is a really easy braindead easy way to play.

This doesn't make sense to me. If a character hits you, you've made this mistake. Regardless of how execution heavy the combo they use after that initial hit, you're still the one who has failed to defend yourself from this allegedly brain dead player. Being able to simply perform combos isn't that impressive in itself and isn't nearly as fundamental to fighting games as being able to open up the opponent for the chance to perform these combos to begin with. Higher damage can still be attained with difficult combos, but Arcana simply removed the necessity of learning them to compete.

The CPU can't think. It's always going to seem dumb, not that sentinel isn't incredibly dumb as an aside. This game has like 40 characters but you wouldn't know that because I'm on about 4-5 boards and every single one of them is full of people who don't realize Dante/Deadpool/Wesker/Dormammu aren't the only ones in the game.

Anyway, this game is like the rainbow edition Hokuto no ken of TVC, it's a mess. Can't imagine what the scene for this is going to be like. Heading to a tournament this saturday, can't wait to see the gimmicks and bullshit.

Since no one can resist this game we should arrange a RPGFan Tournament! Of course the rules would have to include some form of level or experience points to see who the winner would be.

I'm for it, but this forum always seems to be split half 360 half ps3.

Ugh.... The limited edition seems to be sold out. Why did I not pre-order already, fuck.

Also, I approve an RPGfan tournament.

Fuck that, Arcana 3 tourney baeby. Bitches don't want any of 8k Saki bnbs.

There you go.  Straight from Capcom with love.

That's right, good old fashioned 'crumple and die'.

haha yeah basically. I'm really happy about Ibuki, She was always my second string in third strike. Remy for the win... sigh. Those were the days, I always pick the character who I like the most aesthetically, whether it be physical character design or fighting style, bottom line has always been aesthetics. It normally works out, the characters I wind up playing usually turn out to be decent. Third strike was a rough decade for me.

Street Fighter IV hasn't been much better. This is the first instance ever of Vega being garbage afaik.

Hopefully the Jin pool will get a bit smaller though. I sense a lot of Hazama players are going to fill that void.

If somebody attempts a 1-frame link online, even if they're using the best connection in the world, they deserve to eat the inevitable Shoryuken, even if it's from a flowchart Ken.

This is the genius of blazblue though. They just mask it by making button inputs last for a ridiculously long window.

My main problem with sf4 is really the lack of blockstun. You just don't have to respect anybody's pressure. The only thing worth doing with anybody it feels like is shorts into throw (or whatever, just get the mixup out NOW), or spending metre to attempt anything other than that. This combined with huge stages and funky oki, whatever though.

ps: instant seth victory: J-roundhouse, 2 Roundhouse, repeat.

Ten bucks says Dudley has stupid good links in tandem with his traditional thousand target combos. I mean just look at Sakura, an afternoon of training on some of those 1-frame links make her damage insane, imagine what could happen with a good character design.

Harry Potter, was dragged into the theatre by my girlfriend. None of the student characters can communicate with each other effectively, how many clumsily handled scenes of teenage strife can we go through. I guess most of the adults weren't bad. Alan Rickman does another stunning show as the most terminally droll man in England, but it all actually improved a bit in the second half. 5.5/10

Taking one second to address the growing obsession some newer properties have with 'darkness' (in the case of the harry potter films, it usually just means the lighting gets worse). In very few cases does it add anything meaningful to a storyline. In very few cases is it a genuinely satisfying turn. Making something 'dark' often shows how immature the subject matter is to begin with if the only thing they can think of to add substance to a work is by adding ghouls and gore-- kicking you in the shins hard enough to try and make your primitive 'danger' reflex act up.

I think the reason that Casino Royale was so brilliant is that it was basically an assault on all the other Bond movies.
The movie is about Bond validating his own masculinity and doing it without killing other people or using women to do it. Notice how the classic t&a sequence of all Bond films, the swimsuit scene, is done with Bond himself? Notice how Vesper is the one ultimately using Bond? Even Bond's genitals are literally smashed in this film, yet he still grins and quips his way through it. Really really amazing rewrite of over 50 years of tragic Bond movie excesses.

Quantum of Solace comes along and says fuck that shit and reverts back to the same old story just like that. What gives? I actually wanted the action scenes to be over, it was a real treat to see such quality character development in the first film, and now we're left with this.
The end was good, but there was nothing to like.... give us the sense that we've earned it. It's kind of like turning in your maths problems and not showing the work. Yeah ok.... BUT

I bought Casino Royale on Blu-Ray and, having never seen it before, was in for quite a treat. I really, really enjoyed it. Plenty of action, lots of twists and turns, and though it did slow down a bit towards the end, it finished with a satisfactory bang.

The one thing I didn't like:
Code:
James Bond does not fall in love. That's the number one rule for James Bond movies. I don't care that it was supposed to take place when he was a new 00 agent, the love plot slowed down the movie entirely too much. Sure, he's allowed to get the girl, but he can't fall in love.

That was probably the most rewarding part of the whole film. I never thought I'd see someone rag on a film for having complex characterization. Casino Royale was really in most ways a huge backlash against the bloated swagger of the previous films. Think about it, tie down a sexist icon and smash his genitals, what does that represent.
