Likewise. He's good with a more "painterly" style, a lot of his Persona art is like anime pop art.
Persona 3 bridged the gap and still had some art similar to that, but with P4 he just went full-on anime.

I may be of the unpopular opinion here, but while like Kaneko's artwork, I'm of mind that it needs to stay exactly that: artwork. Even in PS2 titles characters some of the characters' face models were starting to look creepy/strange (and not in a good way to fit the games and their themes, especially in the Raidou games). I imagine a more detailed character model for current-gen or next-gen would be even worse. I think the new artwork strikes a good balance.
That said. . .I can't see Devil Survivor's character designs working particularly well in 3D, either.
Wait, what? His character designs are awesome and add to the appeal. I've always loved his knack for designing outfits. His female characters usually dress like normal females would.

And to be honest it's ANIME but not a sort of pandering or overly pop style of it. The characters don't look like rejects from a kid's anime (closest is that the lead looked like Korra from behind... a character from an American cartoon that's just anime styled and mainly came from the hair style), or fashion rejects of Nomura, or the moe crap of the likes of Idea Factory or Compile Heart. Really, his style looks a lot like Kaneko's 32-bit onwards style with the Goth scrubbed out, if they really wanted to go ANIME they'd have just gotten Soejima to do the artwork, and that probably would be the better bet to get the staunchly Persona fanbase in.
I agree, and I still like the artwork, but we definitely lost something without Kaneko's input. Though the designs Doi did for the modern humans(namely the Gaian cultist and the Hikawa look alike with the shades) gave me huge Kaneko vibes.

I hate to be a downer, but he says stuff like that, then says that he wanted Doi to do the art work to make it more 'anime'/appealing to a wider audience. SourceI mean it'll still be great, but don't claim to be punk when you want Miley Cyrus doing your vocals.

I actually think the gameplay in 1 has held up pretty well. It's not as well-defined as 2, but it's by no means not fun, at least in my estimation. The voice acting IS goofy, but the writing is solid, so it's give and take. And while it isn't going to blow your eyeballs out, the art design is great-- and those line drawings for character portraits and on the menu are siiiiick.
and just like cj said, you will appreciate 2 so much more if you play 1 first.
I played 1 AFTER 2(because I loved 2 so much), and I thought it aged just fine. Roger Bacon is a much better villain than Rasputin, too. (SH's Rasputin that is. RAIDOU's Rasputin is the ish.)

Yeah, I agree.
The end of Chapter 3 was one heck of a sucker punch. It single-handedly redeemed the story.
And my favorite non-BRS character was the commander. (Speaks volumes that I can't remember his name...)
Also, I still don't get what 'neblading' means.

I love the music, graphics, and general aesthetics of the game, but I agree the story is the weakest part. The only interesting characters are BRS and the aliens, and they get almost no development.
I like how snarky BRS can get, and that she's not just emotionless robot girl #245.
The motorcycle segments are a blast, brief as they are.

Situation changed....and also I was surprised to see Midway as the publishers of the Shadow Hearts series of games
I used to be shocked that they did such a good localization, then I learned all they did was publish them. Still, they had great taste.

I would be pleasantly surprised if we received remakes of SMT1+2 on the 3DS. I've tried multiple times to play SMT2 on an emulator, but I think it's too outdated for me.
I had a pretty easy time of it. It's much less tedious than SMT1, but boy does it have some annoying fetch quests.

I'm wondering what this history OST will consist of. SMT 1 & 2 tracks? Or just localized stuff?
Also, it's kind of a shame they never exploited the 20th/25th anniversary last year.

So is this like out now? Anyone tried it yet?
Yes and yes. I enjoy it enough, though like Fate/Extra, it has some questionable design decisions. (Like, why can't I preempt enemies on the field?) It's fun enough, and the music is great. I like the aesthetics of the game as well.
