The graphics on this are like two gens above Devil Survivor 2's, even the 3DS version, so there's that.

It amazes me how astonishingly LAZY Record Breaker is. It's a fun game, but they didn't even try to upgrade anything except voices.

Also, I appreciate how Apocalypse never loses its  fangs. It stays difficult throughout, almost as well balanced as Strange Journey.

Any review planned? And there's hype, if you know where to look.

I still hate negotiation and no one can every change my opinion about how stupid I think it is, but the other quality of life additions (better map, less opaque about the affinity system, party members that are actually helpful) really help it shine. I can see myself liking this one more than SMTIV.

Apparently there's a broken pattern you can use. Comply, Comply, Refuse, Cheat. It's been pretty effective for me. Partners also tell you when to go talk to a certain demon for a surefire recruitment.

They never topped Raidou 2's system, though. Nearly impossible to fail a negotiation thanks to the partner system smoothing things over.

Uh... did anyone here actually play it? :P The only people I know who care about this seem to be Suda fans, everyone else just seems to be kind of ignoring it.

The PA thread is a ghost town.

So uh, the site finally covered it. :P

I also did a comparison here, if you're interested:

So, uh... demo, anyone?

It's insane, and it includes an ADV segment!

Here's some screens.

New UI is ultra slick.
Also, in case anyone is wondering, Akira is you, the player. You get to name him when you start the game.

Very well cut demo, they knew just how to hook people in. And they haven't seen anything yet.

Says the guy who just linked to a gematsu post ;)

I'm not posting on the front page... yet. :P

Got clarification from Esper. Satsu wanted to help, but he pulled off the extraction himself.

He said, quote, "each block has its own font and its a pain in the ass".

Oh, and he used his own code, he was insistent I clarify that. :P

We're actually taking applications for news editors at the moment; you seem to have your finger on the pulse, so if you're interested...

Heh, I'm pretty sure I applied last time with no dice. We'll see, it'd be nice to see this site have more of its own thing without having to ref back to Gematsu(and siliconera, brr; I do not want to see that shillers' haven get hits ever again.)

By any chance was Satsu of the Hourai High translation involved in the SC extraction process?

Good to know Vermillion is still at it, for some reason I thought that project was stalled. I tried to translate MS as I went along as part of my Japanese practice, but the font in that game is so stupidly compressed that I reckon you need to be fluent to recognize some of the kanji. Some of the more complex ones look like little more than opaque squares.

I imagine that, too, would be an fairly difficult fan translation to pull off. I'm thinking about those dialogue scenes in which one party replies in text and the other in un-subtitled voice.

It was months ago, but pretty sure Esper did it himself using some freeware PS1 tools from RHDN.
Never mind, he did it himself with his own code. :P Man's truly a wonder.

MS will be tough, but compared to TSC? Cake.

Where's that TSC headline news? :P
10  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Langrisser: Reincarnation coming Stateside? on: May 08, 2016, 08:34:15 PM
The game's only saving grace appears to be the music. The NeoGAF thread is full of giant red flags. It just saddens me that the devs did this to Langrisser, and that Aksys thought it was worth publishing.

And Siliconera shilling is nothing new. Should've seen how hard they were pushing that damn Unsung Story KS.

Hey,  it's CJ!

I am pumped. Silver Case was prime Suda, before
.. whatever happened to his style. Now if we could get a remastered Moonlight Syndrome...

I'm happy with what we're getting though. Silver Case was impossible to fan translate because the text and graphics were compressed into a single image.

Tell me about it. We extracted the code, and it looked like hell itself. The team has their work cut out for them.

As for MS, Vermillion from Paradise Hotel is translating it:

We're going to fan translate it when she's done.

Was so sure there'd be a news article about it here... oh well!

Grasshopper Manufacture, in collaboration with Playism and Active Gaming Media, has announced a remastered version The Silver Case due out internationally for PC via Steam, Playism, and other platforms this fall. Its launch will mark the first time the adventure game is released in English.

The Silver Case launched for PlayStation in Japan in 1999 as the first installment of Goichi Suda’s “Kill the Past” series. While its sequels, Flower, Sun, and Rain and Killer7, were localized for western audiences, The Silver Case was not. Its “massive volume of text, highly nuanced dialogue, difficult technical vocabulary, and context-reliant storytelling” presented many challenges in bringing it to an English-speaking audience. That is, until now.

Get the full rundown on the remaster below.

    ■ Introduction

    1999: Japan, the “24 Wards”.

A string of serial murders is terrorizing the nation.

All clues that the detectives have uncovered so far, point to one well known perpetrator, Kamui Uehara, the deranged criminal at the center of the infamous “The Silver Case” murders many years prior. But Kamui Uehara is no longer around…

With the string of mysteries, pointing to an impossible suspect, just what is really going on?

    ■ Gameplay

Combining elements of adventure games and visual novels to create a new and unique experience, The Silver Case invites the player to solve puzzles and experience the story in first-person perspective as a member of the Public Safety Department’s “Republic” Special Forces unit.

        Unconventional and unexpected storylines
        Characters with vivid personalities
        Two scenarios:
Transmitter: the detectives hunt down the truth
Placebo: a freelance writer explores the story
        Complete graphic enhancement
        The unique Film Window System
In English for the first time ever

    ■ Film Window System

The Silver Case will be bringing back the Film Window, the system developed by SUDA51 to bring a more dramatic display of text & imagery to players of adventure games.

By displaying game graphics and text in moveable windows, the location of on-screen elements can be adjusted for dramatic purposes and keep the player interested.

    —PlayStation 1

I am happy to announce that the long-awaited Silver Case HD remastered version will finally be available as promised.

This title was originally released in 1999, but was never released outside of Japan until today.

The English version will also be available, another promise made to you and will be on Steam, Playism, and other platforms.

Silver Case is returning in Fall 2016.

In the year 2016, please give support for Let It Die and Silver Case.

This sets an amazing world of possibilities into motion, I'd like to think. If a 17 year old niche import can get revived for the PC, the sky should be the limit.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Sakura Wars [PC] Fan Translation on: May 30, 2015, 08:04:33 AM
Since this board is literally the reason this project exists, why not update you all? :D

I edited the first part of the script, and found the problem with the LIPS system! (Yaaaay)

Note the new font as well.

(Needs more spacing is all.)

(Edited this line to be more polite.)

We're at roughly 30% completion. The next update should be significant.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Unsung Story: A Kickstarter by Yasumi Matsuno. on: March 21, 2015, 08:13:18 PM
As one of this project's biggest detractors, I have to say the screens give me faith.

I WANT this to be good. I'm just understandably pessimistic.
15  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Sakura Wars [PC] Fan Translation on: September 02, 2014, 06:59:11 PM
The PS2/Wii game is STIV, correct? How much connection is there between games in the series?

Five actually. The only connection is that that game's Harem Protagonist is the nephew of this game's Harem Protagonist.

Otherwise you're likely to maybe get a couple of nods and a wink or two in regards to the previous games at best.

That said, I wonder which will take less time, this project or the SA LP of this game?

Uh, the LP I assume... even if we get all the script in game, there is a LOT we have to tweak, namely the LIPS system.

We haven't even gotten to the battles yet...
