I remember my hype going from intrigued to disastrous once impressions started coming out. I liked the art and I liked Imageepoch's handheld titles(Fate/Extra and BRS were enjoyable at worst), but this really looks like a trainwreck in every sense.

Sadly, I think past events have shown NIS' fans are bad review proof.

So this is supposed to end the series? I kind of was hoping this would be a side-story then we'd get a proper XIII-3 with the entire team, and the fantastic paradigm system, back for the finale.

I've been spoiled. I used to not mind a lack of dungeon BGM, but after EO I'm always like 'WHY IS THERE NO SOUND HERE.'

I still do like dungeons with ambient sound only, but it's pretty flubbed in CoH where the sound effects are nondescript and... weird.

Why can I hear a pterodactyl in the Beginner's Brush?

All that said, I still haven't played Wizardry PS3 (We're talking Labyrinth of Lost Souls, right?)

Yep. It's a good game, but flawed(and what DC isn't?).

It's hard for me to compare this to Elminage. Elminage is a fantastic game, but was treated with almost no respect. CoH2 is a decent game treated with immense TLC.

I have to be honest, even aside from the localization I still felt like Elminage Original was pretty lame. There are significantly better options that make it hard for me to justify spending much time with it.

I will definitely agree though that CoH2 speaks volumes to the care Vic Ireland and folks and MonkeyPaw put into their projects. I'd absolutely support a future endeavor for them.

Elminage isn't as good as Etrian Odyssey or even Dark Spire, but it has aspects that puts it far above Wizardry PS3; a variety of dungeons and locations, and some fantastic music. (Well, the fact that it has music period.)

Wizardry PS3's scarce music was good, but it badly needed dungeon BGM.

Custom character art is a fantastic feature, too.

Vic was kind enough to let me review a copy, and it's very enjoyable. Slow build, but once you get over the trademark initial hump, it's fun times, especially the combat's fluidity.

Some of these dungeons are brutal, too. My biggest complaint is the lack of dungeon music.

I've always thought the negotiation/summoning mechanics fit Devil Summoner pretty well. It's not like Persona where they're facets of your personality, thus you have free reign over them. These are separate entities with their own desires and goals only held in check by your power and force of will.

Without that, they have no qualms about killing you the moment you turn your back.

Soul Hackers... I'm glad I'm getting to play it, especially since I was clamoring for it back in the Revelations: Persona for PS1 days, but it really hasn't aged that well.  It's good and all (especially the music and voice acting), but definitely stuck in the 1990s to the point where it feels a little more anachronistic than timeless.  It's good, but I'm often more compelled to play something else whenever I have the downtime. 

I'm still getting my sorry butt kicked by Snappy.  

I hope you realize his trick. You aren't supposed to do damage to him. There's another way.

As far as SMT artwork is concerned I am far more enticed by the Soejima side of the coin, as opposed to the Kaneko. While I feel Kaneko's work stylistically offers a great deal more "character" than Soejima's, I am just a sucker for the lush color anime work Soejima has cranked out in recent years. However I certainly am not turned off by either artist and I will totally give credit where credit is due.... Kaneko is responsible for the visual direction of my absolute (new) favorite protag. ever- Tatsuya from Persona 2.

Kaneko seems to work in a very signature palette of sorts. That, coupled with his distinct "style" of drawing, makes his work  recognizable from a mile away.  Having that strong of an "identity" to your art, is what makes a stellar artist in my book.

And that is all I have to say about SMT artwork... now back to my grind through p2EP... I'll be back in a week or two when I'm finished-LoL

EDIT: On the note of Eternal Punishment... I am floored with the amount of optional content in this game. I can't imagine how long it would take if I really wanted to get to most of the optional stuff. With so much other stuff on the shelf calling my name (coupled with the fact that I haven't played ANYTHING other than SMT/Persona stuff for the last 2 months) I am ready to move on but damn I wish I had the time/wherewithal to manage to get some of more rare persona and whatnot.

At 60 hours in, with a tentative 10-15 to go (I imagine) I can easily see how this game could demand 100+ hours and still leave you with a great deal to do if you so desired...  I wish I discovered this when it came out in my childhood/teen years... this could have been a whole summer vacation worth of gaming-LoL

Yeah, it's easy to see why Atlus USA of that era was only able to localize EP. It's a demanding game, and has a TON of content, arguably more than P3 or P4.
