856  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star on: March 10, 2010, 11:46:41 AM
I recall when they said they were going to bring back elements from the original games, which originally had me psyched. (I bought the very first Lunar on the Sega CD when it came out, so I'm a little obsessed with the series. :P )

From what I've seen, this is just another remake of the PS1 version.

If they had reverted the ocarina to Alex playing a harp again, I would have bought it on day 1. (And better let, leaving Luna behind when going to Meribia.)

But I've acknowledged that this remake isn't for me, it's for the newer fans, so I'm not going to let it get to me.
857  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Is the JRPG forumla growing stale? on: February 04, 2010, 03:49:45 PM
I have too many good RPGs waiting to be played to waste time on bad ones.
858  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Is the JRPG forumla growing stale? on: February 04, 2010, 01:37:08 PM
Atlus seems to be the only developers series capable of being consistently good as of late. Even the subpar SMTs are still enjoyable at worst.

The stuff Tri-Ace is putting out seems embarrassingly bad, aside from being pretty, but that doesn't take an RPG very far.

Though Half-Minute Hero was amazing. I think as long as developers manage to innovate and not retread old ground, RPGs will be fine.
859  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Interesting quote from the Phantasy Star IV director on: January 29, 2010, 06:41:40 PM
For me, the most interesting bit was learning that she was the director of Magic Knight Rayearth on the Saturn.

It's a totally different game.
860  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Idea Factory: how do these hacks stay in business? on: January 27, 2010, 02:00:49 PM
It seems like every single game they release is mediocre at best. Stereotypical art design, pandering fan service, terrible gameplay(and usually voice acting to go with it, hi Chaos Wars), etc.

So why are they still in business? Why do people keep buying their crappy games?

And worst of all, why would anyone let them near Sakura Wars V? (They're doing the Wii version, rumor has it.)

I'm hard pressed to think of a single good game on this list.

I replayed it not long ago.

I still loved it, if not more than I did the first time. The story is amazing.
862  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star on: January 22, 2010, 10:34:39 AM
Not very impressed. Burg is even smaller than before, the voice acting is mediocre at best, and the OP song has no flow at all.

And I swear some of these lines are DIRECTLY from Working Designs' localization. Victor has good reason to be annoyed.
863  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star on: January 21, 2010, 11:11:22 PM
Actually, the Sega CD games are by far the hardest, especially Eternal Blue.

The Cave of Trial in Silver Star Sega CD is a nightmare. It's a cake walk in Silver Star Story.

Eternal Blue, one word: Borgan.

He's a joke in the remake.
864  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atlus USA announces Persona 3 Portable - Release Date July 6 on: January 21, 2010, 04:57:28 PM
And yet still no Growlanser PSP. :(

I have to call you out on this.  Do you always have to turn every Atlus thread into a complaint about the lack of Growlanser?

Yeah, I'm not running into every Nintendo related thread I'm seeing lamenting that Mother 3 isn't coming out here or that Earthbound appears set to never appear on the VC. I WOULD like both of them, but there's no use dragging down every thread by complaining.

That's a little different. Mother 3 was released for a dead if not dying system. The PSP is in its prime right now, and Growlanser PSP looks beautiful.

They've released some downright awful games for the PSP in comparison.

I dub her Hinata, personally.

As much as I loved P3 on its own, you can't deny, P3F is cute as a button.

May get on the cheap. There's also some neat tidbits of fan service, like seeing the teacher that Kanji fell in love with.

And one of P3F's new social links looks JUST like Izanami from Persona 4.

Could anyone give me a hint how to fuse Fiends in Devil Summoner 47? Just a hint that would point me in the right direction, that's all.

If I recall, there's a 1/8 chance of pulling it off on a full moon.
868  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hexyz Force announced for US (PSP - Dev. Sting/Localized by Atlus) on: January 09, 2010, 02:43:06 PM
I always thought it was weird they didn't advertise KOS-MOS in SRT OG Saga more. That's practically a selling point to Xenosaga cultists.
869  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hexyz Force announced for US (PSP - Dev. Sting/Localized by Atlus) on: January 09, 2010, 08:49:16 AM
I'd imagine there was more bullshit tied up with SRT though, or at least that sounds like the case. WHy else release the RPG on the DS, but not the PS2 port?

There was. I'm sure Atlus had every intention of localizing the PS2 OGs(which is what I've heard). Blame SCEA. I hear it was because they had to dub the whole game, and they didn't have the budget for that. Too much cost, too little return.

What do I have to sacrifice to get us Growlanser in the US? Name it, done.

Go back in time and get more people to buy Growlanser 5.  That's about the only thing you can do.

Easier said than done when Atlus only printed up like 10,000 copies of the game with no intentions of ever making more...

If I recall, it sold barely 3,000. It was pretty much a flop.

They threw Growlanser to the wolves. Worst game in the series, least opportunity for success.
