1  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: FFXIV 2.0 - Holy Shit!? on: December 29, 2012, 09:16:38 PM
If you purchase the original FF14, do you need to buy it again when 2.0 is finally release?
2  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Chaos Rings, HD or no HD? on: July 31, 2012, 03:37:32 PM
Is the HD versions of Chaos Rings series worth getting?  I'm read mix reviews on the internet.  Some people like the HD graphics; some people say the HD graphics are same as playing in 2X mode and look just as pixelated and blocky.  Any opinions?  Thanks.
3  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Totorie, Alchemist of Arland 2 announced for the PS3 on: October 08, 2011, 02:31:53 PM
Okay thanks, but what I was asking after the "end" year 6 month 6, is it completely game over or is it open ended (like after beating game, there would be extra content and you can freely roam around and doing whatever)

The way this game is described so far AFAIK, its like a arcade RPG, you get to play X amount of game time, and when that time ends, it is game over no matter how many quarters you put in... to use that kind of analogy.  Basically this sounds like a time limited game in the strictest sense.

Confused with the time limit.  The RPGfan review says the game pretty much ends in 5 years.  Could someone clarify that?  Does the game end in 5 years no matter what?  Are you forced to progress through the story after getting the license in 3 years?

My complaint is not so much about superiority of acting or language.  I just have my own preference.  My only complaint is, what harm is there for including the native language intact?  Its no different than movies, TV, anime.  When you buy the DVD/BD, they give both native and English languages.  Sometimes, they give you even more.

You don't need to understand a foreign language to justify owning or enjoying that product with the foreign language.  When people say something like "you don't understand what the are saying, why would you care?", I find that way of think very ignorant.   In Japan, (I know this for certain) when they show American movies, most if not all of them, are played in English with JP subtitles.

Imagine watching Rush Hour movies in JP dub, how the hell are you going to dub Chris Tucker?  YOU CANT, because Chris Tucker is very unique in his own American style.  But what makes Chris Tucker funny is not the movie script alone.  It is how he does them, how he says them.  You CANNOT emulated Chris Tucker in JP dub.

My argument stands.  Even if I don't know a word of japanese, I know enough that speech patterns are different from English.  For example, if you take a long JP sentence, there are pauses and breaks in the sentence.  My petpeeve is when you have dubs translating that sentence and literally use the same breaks and pause that are in the sentence.  While it sounds normal in JP, superimposing the english speak using the same patterns mades the dubbing sound unnatural and weird.  Imagine putting commas and periods within a sentence that do not belong.  It does not matter is its a game or a movie.  I think some studios try to translate and dub to literally down to the speech pattern in order to match the moving lips.

Everyone wins, you lose nothing when you have both.  There are no minuses for having both.  In fact, you gain!  My complaint was never about having only one or the other.  Put both in there.  I can understand that sometimes, if you have no space on a DVD to put both (xbox360), I say "too bad".  We don't need Affirmative Action for videogames.  If PS3 can do mult-language while xbox can only do one language, then so be it.  I mean, I drive a Honda Accord, does that mean I want the person driving a Mercedes lower their Mercedes to be more like the Accord?  No.

As far as making this a defining issue, I was being mostly facetious about it, but slightly serious at the same time and for a good reason.  When I'm paying 50 or 60 bucks for a game, many times it feels like I'm paying for an incomplete product.

Seriously, is reading the subtitles that pain in the ass?
Would you watch a foreign movie or TV show in English dub?  I have friends from Spain who watch The Simpsons in Spanish and even they can't stand it and prefer to watch it in the native English with Spanish subtitles.
It makes no sense not to watch a movie or play a game in its native tongue and have subtitles.  Ever watched asian movies dubbed in English?  Makes you want to take an ice pick to your ears.  Now I'll admit some games were decent with the English dubbing, personally, the Final Fantasy series have been ok.
Personally, I think dubbing games can sometimes take away the some emotional experience.  Different tongues and expressions cannot be expressed the same way in every language.
Try watching a Chinese comedy in English dubbing, its not same because of speech pattern and tongue expressions.

I'm not saying don't dub in English (dub all you want for all I care), just don't remove the native language.

Am I asking too much?

I like that Picard pic haha

So the all important question is "Will this game have Japanese dialogue?".  Everything else is less important.  Without JP dialogue, I will wait for the $5 used bargain bin.
10  Media / Single-Player RPGs / White Knight Chronicles 2 audio. on: May 03, 2011, 04:53:36 PM
Will we get Japanese dialogue for WK2 this time?  I felt kind of ripped off with WK1 "International Version", $10 used game from the bargain bid is still a lot of money.  You can't have an international version without the JP audio.

Looks interesting, especially the TPS system, almost like a FPS game.  I hope they DON'T do auto-aiming.  I can imagine the TPS system opening a load of new possibilities for both PVE and PVP, but since this is PSO, I doubt there will be PVP.  But for PVE, you can put hit-boxings on mobs and bosses as a way to defeat them.   Head shot anyone?

I don't get it with Falcom.  Why PSP of all platforms?  Most of their RPGs are epic, but they only release the PC and PSP versions in Japan, while the US only gets PSP and 1 PS2?  First of all, while I thank xseed for localizing it here in the US, I still fault them for only getting their hands on the PSP version and not PC.  Forget packaging, digital download them!  Or does Falcom only want to keep the PC version to themselves?

Again, why PSP of all platforms?  No porting to PS3 or 360?  Most, if not all Falcom games, are EPIC, why the hell do they only port them to a piece of shit machine called PSP?!  I want to play Falcom games on my PC/PS3/360 on all of the 42" 1080P glory!   WAH!

And why limited releases?  A few thousand?  You think only otakus buy this game?  There are casual gamers like me, ya know!  I can bet they wont release this game on PSN.  Falcom, please stop teasing us!   rant rant rant rant

You could hold out hope that the success of Recettear convinces Falcom to allow Steam releases of these games with translations. Possibly other publishers too, but it doesn't seem there is much in regards to PC development in Japan that isn't visual novels/porn BUT Falcom's output... which is now gone.

By the way: I haven't received any replies myself on the pre-order thing. Kinda want that Lunar CD since I got the DL version on sale and it's the only thing in the package I wanted anyway.

Digital DL is the way to go, especially going Steam route is the way to go.  Cut out the manufacturing costs.  Recettear is a huge success for a small indie company.  Falcom/Xseed should definitely work something out with Steam to deliver their games that is already on PC to Steam.  Steam has a huge customer base in the tens of millions, it would be foolish not to take advantage of that.  With PSP's weak marketing momentum, as someone mention earlier, I don't know how it makes budiness sense to only bring a game and only produce 50k copies at most.

Personally, I could not care less about physical/LE DVD packaging.

OMG man, if the people that brought Recettear here had their hands on Falcom, we probably could have been seeing PC versions of Trails and YS in the US by now!   :(

Edit:
Just realize how old the links were. I'm so slow hohohoh  ^o^

No plans for PC release?  :(
While I appreciate xseed for bring the Trails series to the US, its kinda sad that the only way to play this epic RPG is on a tiny screen with sub par graphics (compared to PC version).

They could do digital DL only *hint hint*

Will this game be multi-lingual?  I would like to play the game with JP voice overs with english text.

As far as I know the original language track is available on the NA/Eu version

What do you mean by original track?  Will there be JP audio in the NA/EU version?
