Christ, can you imagine walking into an EB and asking for that game by name?  That looks like a future online purchase to me. :P

3408  The Rest / General Discussions / Why do people suck at grammar? on: June 08, 2006, 01:13:25 AM
I could never force myself to start using internet shorthand.  I spent too many years under the watchful eye of proofreading and editing teachers to start butchering the English language now.  It took several months of exposure to the internet before I could bring myself to use LOL, and I only started because there's no real other way of expressing that sentiment.

Even in something that's real-time, like instant messengers or IRC, I never say something that isn't in the form of a complete sentence.  That's just not how I roll.  When words are all you have to represent yourself, then common sense should tell you to put some fucking effort into it.

That's why I not only allow people here to flame poor typists, but encourage it. :P

Oh damn Dave, that second guy is Jason Becker.  He took over Steve Vai's job in David Lee Roth's solo band back in the day, which speaks volumes about his talent.

He got sidelined with Lou Gherig's not too long after.  It's a shame.

Keeping with the Asian theme, I have two things to share today.

Now, it's pretty hard to be a metal musician and not know at least one Motorhead tune.  Well, the Japanese are no exception to this.  Behold this cover of "Ace of Spades".  The playing is pretty damn good.  The singing...less so. :P  I wonder what those guys are using to keep those wigs in place.

Secondly, I want you metalheads to watch this clip and see if you can spot the odd man out.  I'll give you a hint:  it's the middle aged Jew who used to play lead guitar for Megadeth. :P

I don't know what that damn Blizzard downloader has done to my game, but I kinda like it. :P

As I was chilling in the Undercity just now, I noticed some subtle differences in text size...namely that one out of every five people had their names written in 100 point font.

Other than that, things are good.  My guild's size has gone up by 50% since this time a week ago. :P

There's one question that comes to mind after seeing those Asian kids shredding away...who the fuck did someone that young have to knife to get that JEM? :P

Holy shit, I do believe Tom Jones just got owned.  That's great.

Here's something you guys might like.  I posted these links a few weeks ago in my LJ, but it won't hurt to reiterate.  I didn't even know these guys had any "professional" videos out there when I typed them in, but I was quickly corrected.

The Gathering, bitches:

Leaves

Liberty Bell

Anneke looks so...giddy in those videos.  It's almost distracting. :P  And it really makes me wonder how someone who seems to be so happy all the time was talked into doing guest vocals on the new Napalm Death cd. :P

Action RPGs are great too.  Kingdome Hearts, Shining Force (if you care for the new ones), Ys Ark of Nephalim, Brave Fencer, Drak Cloud.  That's not what I was talking about.

Neither was I...which is why I said nothing about action RPGs.

I'm saying the days of simply choosing "Attack" from a menu are coming to a close.  Games like Valkyrie Profile make the gamer take a slightly more active role in attacking the enemies.  Xenosaga Episode II, the DDS games, and SMT:  Nocturne's battle systems revolve around using strategy to limit an enemy's ability to attack.  That's what I see happening:   a natural progression from the old Squaresoft ATB system to something far more engaging.

EDIT:  And no, the topic isn't being closed.  Every goddamn post has been on topic; you just fail to comprehend what is being said.  In fact, I think I'll pin it.
3416  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Is anyone else scared? The death of regular J-RPGs :( on: June 02, 2006, 01:32:09 PM
Single player RPGs aren't going anywhere anytime soon.  Like Dade said, and you promptly glossed over, MMORPGs and console RPGs tend to have far different fan bases.  Catering to one rabid group of gamers to the exclusion of an equally rabid group would be bad business, especially in the Land of the Rising Sun.

If anything changes in the Japanese RPG market, it'll be the death of the traditional turn-based combat scheme...and that's a change I'll take with open arms.
3417  The Rest / General Discussions / Kill the Load times on: June 02, 2006, 11:25:05 AM
I am the most impatient son of a bitch to have ever walked the world, yet I had absolutely no problem with the loading times on Suikoden V.  After everyone here went on and on about how it took forever for battles to load, I chuckled when it took all of seven seconds.  If people are that desperate for immediate action, I say go play Ace Combat Zero. :P

And I cannot believe someone used Cave Story as an example of good graphics.  Yeah, it looks okay...for something some random asshole brewed up on their spare time.  If I had laid down cash for that, I'd have set fire to the store I bought it from.

I have to say, in all my time overseeing these boards (not to mention the years I was just a normal peon), I've never seen someone make the argument that they couldn't get into games because they looked too good.  Kudos for being an original.
3418  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW - What UI mods are the cool kids using these days? on: June 02, 2006, 11:07:08 AM
I used to have a bunch of different hotbar mods back during my first time playing the game.  When I came back a few months ago however, I saw that Blizzard had added in a few new bars of their own on the sides of the screen and along the bottom, and those generally suffice.  The only bar mod I use now is Auto Hide Bar, which basically just causes a series of buttons to show up whenever I mouse over the right side of the screen while holding shift.  I don't use it for anything I need instantly; just for food and water, mana gems, and my various teleports.

Aside from that, I just use Titan Panel, Quickloot, Atlas, and Necrosis for my lock.  I don't like having a bunch of excess crap. :P
3419  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Fucking WoW Nazi on: June 01, 2006, 05:22:11 PM
LMAO

Do people act like that on raids very often?  I think I'd be too busy laughing to play if I ever heard anything remotely like that. :P
3420  The Rest / General Discussions / Harrison denies Wii influence, says PCs will be unnecessary. on: June 01, 2006, 12:52:35 PM
Bullshit.

Such is my opinion of the whole damn article. :P
