3481  Site Related & More / Board Information & Rules / Spoilers and the Art of Avoiding Bannination on: March 09, 2006, 09:06:08 PM
You've seen it before:  you're minding your own business on the interent when, all of a sudden, you read something about a game you have yet to play that ruins the game for you.  Well, we hate that here, so we've devised a method that promotes discussion of new games without the worries of spoiling the experience for someone.

Gaze upon the code button, your new best friend.  Using the code button is simple enough for even the most dense internet denizen.

When you wish to talk about a delicate plot point or anything similar, all you need to do is hit the code button, type out the sensitive material, and hit the code button again.  Nothing to it.  If you happen to be a visual learner, this example illustrates what a spoiler-laden post should look like as you type it.

Once you've got everything ready to go, hit the submit button.  You should see a black box around the text you enclosed within the code tags.  In order to read the text in these boxes, just highlight it with your mouse.  No problem.

Now then, with such an easy way of keeping things spoiler-free, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't use this function liberally.  Failure to do so will be dealt with firmly.  It's a moderator's perogative to decide what is and isn't a spoiler, so use the spoiler block function if there's even a hint of doubt in your mind.

If this (somehow) didn't make things clear for you, feel free to PM one of the administrators, and we'll straighten you out.

A few things of interest happened today, but they all paled before me seeing this bored motherfucker. :P

He's obviously not gonna be answering you if you're interested. :P

I wish I had been that creative when getting out of classes.  I always just quit going, but I can see that things like this would have been far more interesting.

I think my favorite part of the whole thing is when the grader corrects Lewis Carroll's name. :P

YAY =^.^=

I'm more exicted for Kuhoweveryouspellit Raidou, though. :P

The Nameless One from Planescape Torment is a personal favorite because, well, if you need it explained, you haven't played the game and really should.

Damn straight. \m/

If we're gonna talk Torment, you can't go without mentioning Morte.  Best fucking sidekick that has ever existed.

Let's not forget HK-47, either.  KotOR2 suddenly turned a lot more interesting when I discovered I could rebuild him. :P

My favorite femme type character is Lulu from FFX.  Since all the women in my life are cranky, moody bitches, I guess it was a given that art should imitate life. :P

Anyway, sounds like people are about ready to leave Shattered Hand, kinda makes me sad, but you play the game for fun and if you're not having fun on Shattered Hand, moving to another server only makes sense.

Oh, boo hoo sob. :P  I'm not going anywhere, you douche.  I'm spending a little more time on Dark Iron so Dagg's slow ass can catch up to me. :P

Speaking of slow asses, I made that horrible run from Menethil to Ironforge with my druid this morning.  I swear, it was worse than I remembered from my last night elf, and I remembered it being horrible. :P

With my mage, I managed to get this lovely engineering schematic for a stupidly low price.  I can only assume the seller typoed that shit. :P  I'm about 40 points shy of being able to make it, so hopefully I'll get to wear it before the weekend hits.

Today's song is "Bat Out of Hell" by Meat Loaf.  I swear, most power metal has nothing on this cheesiness. :P

Let me be totally honest with you: if I had been the reviewer instead of Pat, It would've gotten somewhere between a 78 and an 83.  Am I "a dumb bitch"?

If the ten or twelve people who wrote in to the Mailbag about your DDS2 review are to believed:  yes, yes you are. :P

Ash, did you give Baten Kaitos a good score or something? :P  That's the only thing I'd be driven to bitch about regarding that game.

I've come to the conclusion that the economy on Shattered Hand is the most horrid blasphemy of an MMO economy that has ever existed or will exist in the future.

You can tell the marketplace is dominated by thousands of 60s and five times the number of twinks, because EVERYTHING is expensive as all hell.  I haven't completely tested my "twinks are fucking up everything" theory, but here's an example for comparison's sake:

As a budding herbalist, at just enough skill to harvest briarthorn regularly, I was able to gather a stack of swiftthistle and sell it for fifteen gold.  Easily.  It was gone nearly as soon as I put it up.  That sounds like it would be awesome at first, but every single other item on the AH is priced just as high, if not higher.  It's no trouble for someone to buy expensive shit for their alt, but it sucks for those of us just starting out.

Compare that to the character I started last night on Dark Iron.  I took a look on the AH there, and prices were far more rational.  Stacks of swiftthorn were going on an average of three to four gold.  Everything was far cheaper, far more...normal. :P  I'm gonna hop on Shadowsong tonight to do another comparison, but so far I can only conclude that Shattered Hand's economy is on the verge of being broken for a new player.

So yeah, that's what I've been doing mainly:  bitching about money to anyone who will listen. :P

Keep in mind that the RPGFan staff has no control over what is bought and sold here, and as such we are in no way responsible if a transaction goes bad.  If someone refuses to pay or refuses to send you what you paid for, no one associated with this site can or will aid you in solving your problem.

Linking to any online auctions you may have going on at the moment is not only allowed, but encouraged.  A third party such as eBay provides a greater amount of fraud prevention than any direct sale or purchase ever could.

Registering on these boards just to buy or sell something is perfectly fine, but don't be surprised if people aren't willing to deal with a stranger.

Insulting someone solely for the sake of provocation.  That's a no-no.

Reviving Dead Topics
If a conversation has played itself out already, don't try to kick it back to life.  If a topic hasn't been posted in for a month or more, consider it D.O.A.

Multiple Posts
Every single person has the ability to edit any post they make here.  As such, there is absolutely no reason to see two or three posts in a row by the same person.  If you have something to say that you forgot to mention in your post, just edit it in instead of posting again.  Or better yet, think long and hard before you hit that submit button in the first place.

Multiple Accounts
There is no need for one person to have more than one account on these boards.  You'll be banned immediately if caught.  If you happen to share an IP address with someone (i.e. two accounts for two people who live in the same household), I recommend you make it clear that you are two seperate people.  How you do this is up to you.

As of this posting, there are fifteen people on these message boards with the ability to moderate, most of whom are forum regulars.  With so many enforcers present on these boards, the last thing we need is some random board member to take it upon themselves to tell someone if they've broken some board rule.  Trust me, if someone does something wrong, it'll be seen.  We'll take care of it faster and more efficiently than you ever could, and we'll look better doing it.

We have two distinct definitions for spam here:

1.  Making a topic that exists only to advertise something.  (whether it's your website, your birthday, etc)
2.  Making a post that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I personally find this to be the most annoying thing done on the internet.  Hope and pray I'm not the one who catches you if you do this.

"Introductory" Threads
There is a long history of cracking down on introductory threads on these boards.  It's not because we don't want you to feel welcome; there are better ways of making yourself known than an attention seeking "HI I'M NEW =^.^=" thread dedicated to yourself.  If you want to make yourself known here, contribute.  Make a meaningful post on any of our lovely threads or start a worthwhile topic of your own.

Authorization Code

In order to cut back on the amount of spam these boards receive, we require a registering user to input a simple authorization code before they can submit their account information.  All you need to do is type the following case-sensitive text:

Contact an administrator if you have problems.

3495  Media / Miscellaneous Games / F.E.A.R on: March 03, 2006, 08:51:47 PM
Yeah, F.E.A.R. is a great fucking game.  My computer rig sucks, so I had to run it at the lowest settings imaginable, but it was enough to get a taste of the experience.
