3496  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / World of Warcraft OH MY GOD CURRENT EVENTS THREAD on: March 07, 2006, 10:35:09 AM
I've come to the conclusion that the economy on Shattered Hand is the most horrid blasphemy of an MMO economy that has ever existed or will exist in the future.

You can tell the marketplace is dominated by thousands of 60s and five times the number of twinks, because EVERYTHING is expensive as all hell.  I haven't completely tested my "twinks are fucking up everything" theory, but here's an example for comparison's sake:

As a budding herbalist, at just enough skill to harvest briarthorn regularly, I was able to gather a stack of swiftthistle and sell it for fifteen gold.  Easily.  It was gone nearly as soon as I put it up.  That sounds like it would be awesome at first, but every single other item on the AH is priced just as high, if not higher.  It's no trouble for someone to buy expensive shit for their alt, but it sucks for those of us just starting out.

Compare that to the character I started last night on Dark Iron.  I took a look on the AH there, and prices were far more rational.  Stacks of swiftthorn were going on an average of three to four gold.  Everything was far cheaper, far more...normal. :P  I'm gonna hop on Shadowsong tonight to do another comparison, but so far I can only conclude that Shattered Hand's economy is on the verge of being broken for a new player.

So yeah, that's what I've been doing mainly:  bitching about money to anyone who will listen. :P

...Sir, that is the best idea anyone on these boards has come up with lately.  Give me two minutes. :P

EDIT:  Okay, nine.  Whatever. :P
3498  The Rest / The Bazaar / Information for Buyers and Sellers on: March 06, 2006, 04:31:16 PM
Keep in mind that the RPGFan staff has no control over what is bought and sold here, and as such we are in no way responsible if a transaction goes bad.  If someone refuses to pay or refuses to send you what you paid for, no one associated with this site can or will aid you in solving your problem.

Linking to any online auctions you may have going on at the moment is not only allowed, but encouraged.  A third party such as eBay provides a greater amount of fraud prevention than any direct sale or purchase ever could.

Registering on these boards just to buy or sell something is perfectly fine, but don't be surprised if people aren't willing to deal with a stranger.

Insulting someone solely for the sake of provocation.  That's a no-no.

Reviving Dead Topics
If a conversation has played itself out already, don't try to kick it back to life.  If a topic hasn't been posted in for a month or more, consider it D.O.A.

Multiple Posts
Every single person has the ability to edit any post they make here.  As such, there is absolutely no reason to see two or three posts in a row by the same person.  If you have something to say that you forgot to mention in your post, just edit it in instead of posting again.  Or better yet, think long and hard before you hit that submit button in the first place.

Multiple Accounts
There is no need for one person to have more than one account on these boards.  You'll be banned immediately if caught.  If you happen to share an IP address with someone (i.e. two accounts for two people who live in the same household), I recommend you make it clear that you are two seperate people.  How you do this is up to you.

As of this posting, there are fifteen people on these message boards with the ability to moderate, most of whom are forum regulars.  With so many enforcers present on these boards, the last thing we need is some random board member to take it upon themselves to tell someone if they've broken some board rule.  Trust me, if someone does something wrong, it'll be seen.  We'll take care of it faster and more efficiently than you ever could, and we'll look better doing it.

We have two distinct definitions for spam here:

1.  Making a topic that exists only to advertise something.  (whether it's your website, your birthday, etc)
2.  Making a post that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I personally find this to be the most annoying thing done on the internet.  Hope and pray I'm not the one who catches you if you do this.

"Introductory" Threads
There is a long history of cracking down on introductory threads on these boards.  It's not because we don't want you to feel welcome; there are better ways of making yourself known than an attention seeking "HI I'M NEW =^.^=" thread dedicated to yourself.  If you want to make yourself known here, contribute.  Make a meaningful post on any of our lovely threads or start a worthwhile topic of your own.

Authorization Code

In order to cut back on the amount of spam these boards receive, we require a registering user to input a simple authorization code before they can submit their account information.  All you need to do is type the following case-sensitive text:

Take it to PM, boys.  Or just shut the fuck up altogether.
3501  Media / Miscellaneous Games / F.E.A.R on: March 03, 2006, 08:51:47 PM
Yeah, F.E.A.R. is a great fucking game.  My computer rig sucks, so I had to run it at the lowest settings imaginable, but it was enough to get a taste of the experience.

Well, if nothing else, we'd be glad to have that war of yours in instances...and those don't really matter how far ahead of us you are. :P
3503  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / World of Warcraft on: March 03, 2006, 12:07:10 AM
Yeah, if someone played a warrior, we'd be set.  A tank, a paladin, a priest, and my mage...that's all you need, baby.

I guess we can depend on that void to tank. :P

That's the least gay picture of Manowar I've ever seen.

Seriously. :P
3506  The Rest / General Discussions / New Names on: March 01, 2006, 08:32:31 PM
I've noticed that a lot of you are using new usernames on this newest incarnation of the boards.  While I, being a genius, have already figured out who you people are, you've got to remember that a lot of the people who post here are as bright as Wesley Snipes in a blackout.

If you're using a new name, why not tell everyone the name you used to go by?  No point keeping everyone in the dark, after all. :P

3508  Site Related & More / RPGFan: The Boards / Board Time on: March 01, 2006, 06:20:23 PM
I know this will come up at least once, so here it is:

If the times you see on the boards are wrong, you need to adjust your profile settings.  Go down towards the bottom and you'll see a drop-down box entitled Timezone.  If you're in the Eastern time zone, you'll need to select GMT -5 Hours.  If you're Central, pick GMT -6 Hours.  And so on and so forth.

I'm sure you guys can figure it out from there. :P

Ah this was the question posed in the mailbag here.  It's funny since dozens of people will reply on the boards but you'll probably get only a handful of letters.

Heh, if I were to actually get a handful, I'd shed tears of joy, because that would imply more than one letter. :P

That's all I'm looking forward to at the moment, and I'm damn glad someone else spelled it out so I didn't have to look it up. :P

I was looking forward to FFXII, but that demo kinda killed my interest in it.  I said the same thing about the DQ8 demo though, so who knows? :P
