1  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Church is FUCKEN Awesome now!!!!! on: July 23, 2009, 07:03:31 PM
just look at the D&D hysteria decades ago or the evolution fiasco that's still going on

I remember when I was younger and went to church, we had a police officer come for an evening seminar about the evils of drugs and D&D, which all the dealers played to add to the peer presure, because they played the Dungeon Master and got to be in control.  The topper was when she pulled out a blank map and gave a five minute lecture on how 'once you get into this dungeon, your characters will die or never get to leave.  The entire game is one big trap.'

For those that go to a church that is open and willing to actually learn about the origins of their beliefs, more power to you.  For me, I ended up getting a minor in religion so I could get a firm knowledge of where the Christian background I was raised up with came from.

That site in the OP scared me.  I'm not sure that it was sending the right kind of message...   That angel figurine looked like a D&D miniature - maybe they have sessions of D&D for Jesus?

I went to Best Buy today and found Dragon Quest Swords for the Wii and Dragon Quest IV for the DS for $10 each.  Of course I had to grab them, heh.

Maybe Square is trying to move inventory?  Either way, it's good for my game collection! *shrug*

I've had a few near death experiences.  When I was like three, I fell out of a grocery cart and busted my head open - still have a scar for that one....

Then when I was eleven I got a nice shock from a faulty fridge.....

My favorite was falling from a second story and landing on concrete - ended up with only a few busted teeth and a couple herniated discs.  To this day I refuse to climb ladders.

Life's funny like that - you can live through so many things but never be 100% sure what you were supposed to learn from it.  For me, it's to keep away from bad fridges and stay off of higher places.  Ironically I love roller coasters =p

I thought an advertisement was all about, you know, advertising your product.  I don't think they'll be around all that long at the rate they are going, especially if they get the ire of all the web geeks like at codding horror.....

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this:

6  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is now free. on: July 16, 2009, 07:20:28 AM
I've downloaded it, but have yet to play it.  When I do, I'll let you guys know what I think of the game.  It'll be interesting considering I've been 'spoiled' on Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3, so we'll see =p

I've wanted to play this for a long time.  Looking forward to giving it a spin  ^^;

Star Ocean:  Til the End of Time

I was enjoying the story and game in general until it started getting repetitive and unfortunately having an overly-large plot line that was abruptly ended.

Needless to say, this one game has kind of soured me on the Star Ocean franchise.

Just wait until after Dhoulmagus - with the exception of a bonus boss/dungeon, it was the hardest boss.  If you work on doing the side stuff you'll be leveled up plenty for the rest of the game.

Now this is making me want to play the other seven games all the way through lol.

Man oh man - the memories this brings....  That was like the third or fourth game boy game I picked up.  Now I have to go find it and play it a little and start cursing as I climb the tower lol.

That'll be fun - look forward to reading your thoughts about the game ^^;

As for the dungeon crawling, it did get a little tedious in VIII.... like it does in most DQ games.  I put up with it because what the series has meant to me throughout the years.  I remember they used to give out DQ I to subscribers of Nintendo Power!  Then DQ III was one of the first, if not the first rpg to have a day/night cycle.

Of course, add on top the quirky humor that comes out in the battles, along with other distinct features (yes I know the FF series had some 'risqué' dancers, but nothing made me laugh as hard as puff-puff when I first saw it.  VIII even has a nice homage to it, but it's kinda hidden... anywho.)

Anywho, here's to looking forward to IX!

I really liked VIII.  It's one of the few games that I played the completionist mainly because of the bonus material.  If you want a deep, engaging story I'd suggest you look elsewhere.  In any event, if you want a game that provides some decent entertainment, especially considering you should be able to pick it up for $20 nowadays, it wouldn't hurt to pick it up and give it a go....

I through III and IV through VI were story arcs, so to get the full story you'd have to play each trilogy.

As others have said, VII is a major time sink and there are better titles in the series.

My personal fave is VIII.  It has the quirkiness that I've grown to love in the battle system, a fairly decent story, and to get everything in the game took me about 100 hours as I recall.  You can actually beat the game in less time, but you miss some of the cooler bits of the story and the better ending....

Just finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter.  This is a first, but I like the Showtime series better than the book o.o;  Now on to Making Money....

Link's Awakening was pretty good.  The thing that upsets me is that my wife and I play games together, so we'd like to see the ability to play those handheld games on a console - I miss the days of the Game Boy Advance.  I know they had an adapter for the GameCube as well.  Where's the DS adapter love Nintendo? ; ;
