Seriously, what the heck is wrong with Japanese people?

One time in SSF2THD I beat this Sagat fireball spammer by using Fei Long, and he messaged me afterwards calling me a cheater. :(

People tend to be quite the sore losers when it comes to fighters.

Blazblue looks great, plan on maining Noel because I like her design and her fighting style looks interesting.

I remember getting stuck on the Old Man's puzzle thanks to the fact that the question he asked was the victim of the game's irregular message scrolling speed. After beating FFL3 (kinda) I went back, figured the puzzle out, and beat the game twice (once illegitimately and once legit).

I'm right now near the end of FFL2.

FFL3 was the one with the Time Machine that looked like some sort of space ship that was wedged in a mountain yeah? I really enjoyed that game, then again it was one of my first Final Fantasy games so I may be viewing through some sort of coloured sunglasses.
4  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: PSX vs PS2 rpg lineup on: July 09, 2009, 04:44:37 AM
Since Square didn't bother to release ANYTHING for the PSX in Europe apart from your usual FFs (lol but no tactics), PS2 wins by default. I had more RPGs on my Sega Saturn, for fuck's sake.

But, quite honestly, there are quite a lot of disappointing RPGs on the PS2. Grandia III exemplifies that, as opposed to the first two which defined the PSX and Dreamcast for me.

Myau mate I share your pain, us in the PAL regions always get boned. Damn it took them like a year to release Vesperia here, not cool.

I actually prefer the PS2 library of RPGs. Sure half of the games on the PS2 were trash, but the others just felt better to me. I dunno, I still play my PS2 and am still discovering great games on it. Plus Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call/Nocturne is on it, that makes it instant win.
5  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Best Unique Gameplay Feature on: July 09, 2009, 04:40:20 AM
The Social Link system from the two recent Persona games is probably my favourite gameplay feature. The fact that the game tied in exploring relationships with character advancement is something I lop a huge amount of praise onto. It felt really unique (still does) and fun.

I would follow this up with Dragon Quarter's Time/Dragon system, it made you think and plan your way through the game and was a great way to stop people from spamming Ryu's transformation ability.
6  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: JRPGs are total shit, WRPGs are THE shit on: July 09, 2009, 04:33:36 AM
More and more damning evidence that technology ruined JRPGs.

I'd say that Tetsuya Nomura is ruining JRPGs more than technology is.

Anyhoo I tend to play both kinds, I like trying out all the new advances the two subgenres provide. I didn't really become a fan of the WRPG until KOTOR came out, but I have  played gems like Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale and enjoyed them a lot. I don't think either subgenre is superior to the other, it just comes down to what you like to toy around with and what type of experiance you want.
7  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate, new trailer. on: June 30, 2009, 11:46:10 PM
Resonance of Fate looks like what Nomura is trying to do, but actually pulling it off. I think the world that Tri-Ace are going for looks awesome and kinda reminds me of Dragon Quarter. Thoren seems to have nailed the formula of Tri-Ace games, still I like some of the stories they pulled out and each game does have individual moments of greatness, but really by the time that comes it's too little too late.

I agree with Ramza, this looks a lot like a SaGa game to me.

It was one of those days when I thought, "man, if I was 10 years younger, I'd have tried to score her digits."

Still legal bro.

True, but me being 30 last year and her being maybe 19 is still a bit creepy, even though people tell me I look 24-25.  Eh, but these days I tend to flirt more with girls in cars when riding my bicycle.  (Uncle 'Crest has a cute story about that if anyone wants to hear it.)

Back to MegaTen... got nothing more to say.

Ooh I wanna know! I love playa stories.

I love the super boss fights as well, especially Demi-Fiend in Digital Devil Saga. That battle was both epic and brutal wrapped up in awesome music.

Still waiting for my local import place to get Devil Survivor in, though they have other bigger titles on their list at the moment so it may be a while. Man living in Australia sucks when it comes to game releases, still we did get Terranigma so that's not so bad.
12  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: So, Arc Rise Fantasia... on: June 19, 2009, 03:56:31 AM
After watching the trailer a bunch of times, it seems this game was either crafted by uncreative people or was made as an entry-level RPG. It could be a mixture of the two but I'm now more leaning towards the latter. There are elements of the game which defiently look enticing, like the fact that it was written by the guy who did Tales of Symphonia and some of the character designs look good. I dunno, it looks really generic, but some people might get a kick out of it.

WKC lets you turn into a giant and duke it out with other giants. That in and of itself would be enough to spare it I'd think.

I gotta say the White Knight armour alone got me interested in the game, though my enthusiasm broke away when I started to read into the game.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGs that critics love but fans of the series hate. on: June 19, 2009, 02:28:21 AM
unflinching, over-the-top, straight-faced fuck-yeah-we-just-shot-ninjas-out-of-cannons-ery.

That should be in the next Rocket Slime game.

We REALLY need a sequel to that, it was so darn charming. I think I'll go for thirds soon.

Wow, it's like someone wrote RPG cliche's on bit of paper and stuck them in a hat to draw out. Does the game have any merit?
