I wouldn't say "the definition of broken" really, BLMs and BLUs have been doing that for years.

I remember going up on that 40 cap floating island in tavnazia and soloing those hippogriffs that parties always say to stay the hell away from on blu. I think I took on some dragons up there too. Scary, but awesome fights.

Job even had me level a whm sub. That's how good it was :P

Gamestop can do you worst than putting a sticker on your box. I remember ordering one of the old PS1 Tales of.. games that I couldn't find anywhere else used from them. It was a multi disc game and they just sent me disc one. I explained things in a email and sent it back. Twice. Both times they just sent me one disc again. Third time they realized their mistake, but didn't have enough complete copies of the game and said they'd sent it when they had it(Refund offered, but after all this hassle I was going to get my game).

Long having forgotten about it, I finally got my game. One year later.

Curiosity getting the best of me and checking details on KI I have to vote retaliation the most badass ability with no point whatsoever. A huge tanking damage/hate increase..to a job that can't take a hit :P

Obviously, some battles such as Fafnir/Nidhogg are simple matters of "stand on his feet and don't Spike Flail it," but not every HNM falls under that category. Kirin was a kited battle for *years* and still is.

Kited fights were one of FFXI's big failures though. They were basically a big 'fuck you' to the melee dps, who had trouble getting a hit off on them even when they were riding the bosses ass do to latency.

I think if I were the guy who made that I think the last thing I'd want is it reprinted, particularly after a plot against my life was just foiled.

I am Legend. I loved it. I'm not sure how it came to pass, but Will Smith can act and totally sold it for me. And..

Code:
While you know full well what's going to happen to the dog before the movie even starts, it still made me want to cry like a girl.

I guess anime doesn't count over the annominity of the interweb so I'll go with the fact that I've started watching pro wrestling again recently. I am more selective than I used to be though and torrent it instead of watching it on tv because for every good match or awesome stunt( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3FUFSDPd3E ) there's two slow uncharismatic wrestlers and 3 horrible backstage skits to fast forward through.

i wonder where there are multiple points of view in tales of legendia ...

It didn't shift perspective directly, but after the main story each character did have a chapter dedicated to them. Storywise this was actually pretty cool. The gameplay, which you're probably tired of by that point anyway, gets absolutely frustrating in these chapters though so I can't recomend the game. Every time you get into a random encounter running through dungeons you already ran through in the main game you'll want to punch a kitten because the enemies, while not hard, just have way too much health for what's supposed to be a fast paced battle system.
684  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Worst Hero & Villain on: January 09, 2008, 04:07:01 PM
I think the best villains are sympathetic ones. But at the same time, if you try and play the sympathy card and don't deliver the results are horrible and you end up with the worst. So on that note, I'd say the worst of them is Alfina's brother in grandia III. I can't go into great detail because honestly I don't remember the plot that well. But I remember the game really wanted me to give a fuck about him and I just couldn't. And the more they tried without backing it up with any substance the more and more annoyed I got.

For heroes. Well, I want to say all the Wesley Crusher's of the RPG world:The kids that just don't belong there. But while I want to give the award to one of the Tidus' or Vaans, they aren't the worst.

The worst is Virginia Maxwell. You just can't put a female as the lead character and then give her every weak jrpg female trait. It's bad enough as a supporting character, but as the leader it just does not work. At all.

I'm going to second a recomendation for odin sphere.

Other than that the only games offhand I'd recomend you played already with Suikoden III and BoF4. For sake of discussion, while I can't in any fairness recomend a dated NES game, back in the day I loved when dragon quest 4 did it.

I've loved the concept since DQ4, but often times when games try it they do it for the wrong reason, to make a short game longer, playing through what you've already played through on a new character. And typing this I realize Odin Sphere is guilty of this. But Odin Sphere also does it for the RIGHT reasons, to enrich the story and characters.

Hey shiguma do you know of any good place or page where I could start learning? I only plan to reach the be able to read level thought....

I THINK previously he's said if you really want to learn you have to take classes. And even if it wasn't him who said it, it's still probably the case :P
687  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Tales of Vesperia on: December 31, 2007, 12:50:28 AM
Tales of legendia really made me thing the series was dead at the time. Though I knew part of it was that it was a bad game I also questioned if some of it was just things getting old. I almost didn't get abyss, but a few months after release it had people saying good things about it and I very reluctently got it. And I really liked the game. Sure the series has it's cliches, but the gameplay's fun and the characters as a whole are likeable and the way they interact with each other gives them heart.(Though they can be so silly I wouldn't want someone watching me play. But deep down I like the quirkyness)

I think as long as they have the sense to port the good ones and not touch the outsourced crap anymore the series still has some life in the US.
688  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Seiken Densetsu 3... (thanks for dice for correct me) on: December 09, 2007, 06:29:08 PM

The best thing about Seiken Densetsu 3, in my opinion, is the "class" paths that each character can take.

I'm a big fan of systems like it too. Both because if gives your characters bursts in power and because you make choices instead of the 'blank slate' character development, which just ends up with everyone getting everything.

It does kinda suck though when you go out of your way to get the items for your final class and then there's less than a hour left until you beat the game.

I stopped reading closely after the "Devil May Cry 3 is too hard" review.

DMC3 WAS to hard. Well, rather too punishing. Hard is good. I welcome a boss that owns me repeatedly before I kill it. It just sends you back to far when you die, which gets old real fast.

I do kinda feel bad for capcom getting 'this game is too easy!' reviews for DMC2, them listening to the feedback and then getting 'this game is too hard!' for 3 though :P

SII-Classic.
SV-Basically built on the foundation of II means if you like two you'll love it. For the same reason though, relying so strongly on imitation it can't surpass what it's imitating.
SIII-One of those games that seems 'eh' when you first play it, but is really good when you replay it.
SI-Bottom of my list, but I still played it a lot way back when.

SIV I never played. It was bashed so hard. Not just by reviews, but here by people I knew were fans of the series so it seemed like a good idea just to pass on the game.
