691  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Any FFXI players still around and Discussion on: August 30, 2007, 05:16:14 AM
Reading up on it I think my thief would cry sad mithra tears if I still played. Two handers have needed fixed for like two years, but it just looks like a ridiculously lopsided buff combined with a nerf to one hand potential damage so it can't possible keep up. And thieves were already struggling to keep up.
692  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW: Wrath of the Lich King: A New Expansion: ::: on: August 25, 2007, 10:02:02 PM

I just wished they didn't raise the level cap

I think it's something that needs to be done. Exploring and questing needs rewards and experience is it. If the expansion were to come and the cap was the same going through the new areas would just be something to ride through as quickly as possible on the way to a town or dungeon. With a raised cap you'll play the areas as you work towards getting more talent points to go down expanded talent trees.

More importantly the clean slate is something I think MMO's need now and then too. Otherwise you get something like FFXI..a game that never changes.

For losing out on dungeons like black temple, a expansion would mean I'd never get to see it, but then would I ever get to see it either way? It'd be great if I was wrong, but I think that the answer is probably no. But then, assides from missing out on having big name bosses, I'm perfectly happy with 10 mans as long as they can keep rolling them out.
693  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW: Wrath of the Lich King: A New Expansion: ::: on: August 03, 2007, 06:15:33 PM
Another level cap raise is good. People bitch about it over at the official forums, which I can't get(Except in regards to making it harder to have alts. Though that is solvable by reworking exp from 30-60, something people have been asking for anyway). I think wiping out MMO endgame is something that needs done now and then and a ten level raise does that.

I just hope they don't have, or minimize anti scaling stats. Seeing my crit plumet as I supposedly got stronger didn't make me too happy in TBC.

Death knight I don't know about. I think I would rather have had hero classes be extentions of current classes once they hit max level. Death knight can only be overpowered or a disapointed because it isn't overpowered.

Edit-Good to see Arthas/Lich king though. I'm glad they aren't 'saving' him for the next RTS a few years down the line. Now, let's just advance some plot with more then quest text..
694  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Anyone can make a 2D RPG. on: July 27, 2007, 03:42:12 AM
The only reason 2D games were made in the first place was because they couldn't do 3D. Ok, someone said they had 3D games back in the 80s so to clarify, they couldn't make 3D games without spending ten times as much only to end up with the looking even worst than they did in 2D.

For my feelings on 2D vs 3D, the only thing that really stands out is I like 2D platformers and don't like 3D ones. As far as RPG's go, I couldn't care less(Although if you make a 2D game on a console rather than a handheld I think effort to make it look good needs to be put in. Otherwise you're just charging me double for a DS game that I can't even play on the can). If you've got a good 2D rpg I can enjoy it. If you've got a good 3D rpg I can enjoy it too. A 2D castlevania plays different then a 3D one. A 2D rpg doesn't play different from a 3D one. It's just a visual style.

The current generation of games has its shining stars, for sure, but they are needles in a haystack.

Well, when you compare to old gen you're comparing to several years. There weren't any more needles back then. Just a lot less hay. There were 2 good rpgs a year maybe. Then a bunch of games that never got brought over and bad rpgs that were forgotten or that we'd never heard of in the first place.
695  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Disgaea 3 announced, PS3 game. on: July 17, 2007, 06:25:17 PM
The first Disgaea was like a huge feast. It's great, it satisfies you and when you're done...you don't want anymore. 2 came and went without me really caring even though I LOVED the first and now 3 will.

And seriously, it's a niche series so why would you put it on a console nobody owns just to make it look like that?
696  The Rest / General Discussions / The Kwik-E-Mart on: July 10, 2007, 04:33:13 PM
It would have been a LOT better if they did this 8 years or so ago when the show was still good and people actually watched it. It's still kinda neat though :P
697  The Rest / General Discussions / The PS3 price tag gets teh slash'd on: July 09, 2007, 04:08:27 PM
Yeah, it's like they know the problem and are holding back and half assing the solution. And the longer they wait to bring it to a acceptable $300-350 price the more it's going to get burried.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 followed by 3.

I thought 2 was decent. Then I saw 3 and it said to me 'No, 2 sucked. This is how it's done'. Or at least '2 sucked until the last 15 minutes'(Which was a cliffhanger I'd have hated if I saw it when the movie came out. But it was awesome when you only have to wait a day instead of a year for the rest). 3 was great, I'd say on par or better then the first one.
699  The Rest / General Discussions / GameSpot revamping rating scale on: June 23, 2007, 05:30:06 AM

I've always liked the /5 scoring system. No decimal points.

I agree, it forces a decisive score. Even 1-10 no decimals is a bit much. A 7/10 doesn't tell me much. It's the number between a mediocre game and a good one. On a five point scale it's a 3 or a 4. So the reviewer has to comit and say flat out whether he thinks the game is worth playing or not.

Of course you could say the actual review is more important then the numbers, which would be right. But if a game got a undecisive score then the review will likely be the same.
700  The Rest / General Discussions / Good... cosplay? on: June 18, 2007, 06:00:59 PM
It's perfect..Kefka's just so much more of a fruit when you aren't reading his lines :P

Calling Sephiroth a mama's boy was pretty awesome though.

This is pathetic! You sound like chapters from a self help booklet

I didn't think it was all that great a line...but I swear it's truer than ever these days.
702  The Rest / General Discussions / GameFan and other game magazines on: June 11, 2007, 05:15:01 PM
When I was a foolish wee lad I read gamepro. Later on I read EGM and slowly stopped unless what was in a issue skimming through caught my eye. Then they started 'wrapping' them so you couldn't read it at the stands. I don't know if this was good for business overall or not, but when I would read something at the stand, if I liked it I'd buy it, even if I'd just read the part that interested me most. Since I couldn't skim anymore I stopped buying them altogether.

I remember my friend having nintendo power too. And it was ammusing too, since it was during the dying N64 stages. Goldeneye graced the cover almost every month, long after Goldeneye was released.

I was getting a heavy incestous vibe between two characters that I prayed was due to a crappy localization and not there in the orginal game.

Well, it DID come from Japan.

You see, Wild Arms 4 has really turned me view of the series around, so I'm thinking of taking a look back at the rest of the games.

That's probably the best in the series, just because it has Raquel and a great battle system. But it also has little in common with the rest of the series. Save for some outfit designs it doesn't even have the series trademark western theme. Still, you said you gave up on 3 and I can say it's easily the worst of the games so you may like 1 and 2. I'd say remake over 1 myself. The original's battle system moves kinda slow and as a first gen PS game it looks absolutely hideous.

Shrek 3 also. I guess a unenthuthiastic 'watchable' sums it up. I don't regret time spent watching it, but nor do I think I'd have really missed much if I had passed on it. Certainly nowhere as good as the first two, though I figured it wouldn't be going into it.
