Seems silly to call it a 'tales related' surprise. Ok, you're making a new tales game, where's the surprise when you just gave it away? Is SE going to surprise us with FF14 after 13? :P

I imagine I'll probably pick up a DSlite soon. I don't like handhelds themselves much. I'll mostly play it at home, strain my eyes and get a crick in my neck. But I like good games and I'm itching for some castlevania, new super mario bros. and maybe some Phoenix Wright.

Well, I think the concept of the comic could be something. The person doing it just isn't funny.

I think what gets me about EB/Gamestop is the absurdly high prices on USED games. Case in point: Yesterday I was looking around at a big EB store in San Francisco for my birthday. I rented Kingdom Hearts II from Gamefly and they offer it used for about 38 bucks. They don't charge shipping costs - only tax.

How much was it at EB? 45 BUCKS. new? 50! What the HELL, EB?! Even with a discount card, I'd be paying LESS at Gamefly, which will most likely be 40 all together.

That can work for you to though. You can get 20-$25 selling used. I try to rent all my games, even if I have to renew several times to beat one it still costs a lot less, but if there's a game I must have that I can't find for rent it's nice to get a good chunk of what I payed for it back when I'm done with it. Especially if it's something like Shadow of the Colossus. That's like a ten hour game with no replay value(Sure they add time attack mode and such, but really. Once you've beat it that's it.) I had to buy that and it's good that I can cut costs selling it back.[/quote]

You mention outpost warps, but you can only outpost warp to a spot from your hometown.

Return and tavnazian rings are great ways around this and outpost you to your hometown in seconds. They're both limited(Return ring only in areas you control, tav will only work if beastmen don't control), but generally if I can't do one I can do the other. I do have to give SE credit with outposts and warp cudgels, getting around is a LOT easier then it used to be.

1. If they actually made Health and Mana potions affordable.

Not enough to drink them constantly or anything, but one neat thing from the expansion is that the assaults drop medicine. Just winning two I got a hi-potion, a remedy and a hi-potion tank(20 charges). Next time some event requires hi-pots, I've got 'em.

Not to mention the duels and field battles.

I like the duels. Not that there's much to them or anything gameplay wise, but they do a good job of showing what the hero is made of.

Heroes in 1 and 2 had that same errand boy thing going on so it's not like that's new. Your strategists are always doing things without telling you and  you always had to be the errand boy just because if you just stayed in the backlines most of the time like a leader should it wouldn't be much of a game. If anything it doesn't feel quite as bad in V because you're royalty and people kiss your ass more :P

For loading put Viki in your entourage. It won't solve the problem, but it WILL give you a 2d Viki porting all over the screen to distract you :P

I can't say I haven't thought about it being a downgrade. All the complaining that people, myself included, talk about how RPGs aren't going anywhere here suikoden V goes back to it's roots and I absolutely love the game. I feel dirty :P

I DO have to give suikoden III credit for presentation though, save for the lack of voices. Even if the graphics weren't all that great the cutscenes were visually all very well...directed if that's the right word for a game.

I have to give this game some credit for doing something no other game could. They made a fishing mini game that I don't absolutely hate. Not complex enough for it to have any lasting appeal or anything I don't think, but I'm actually enjoying it.

Though I guess you could say they cheated though since they removed the two basic elements that make fishing what it is. Slow and boring :P

Two things I'm really liking, the expanded enterouge and battle formations. No more getting a party together and having members kicked because a story character wants to join. And it's big enough to have other uses too, like bringing a character along to level to see if they're any good and having someone else to bring in if you find out they're not. Or I can bring extras with me to replace a mage after they're burned out.

Formations break the old suikoden party limitations and it's cool that they each come with their own special commands and passive abilities. They seem to be making me want to try other setups too...I want a heavily armored knight to take point and 5 archer's for the archery formation. Unfortunantly since I don't even have my base yet I don't have even one of either :P

Not too far in, but it does have me hooked.

But, man the controls. Equipment swapping is awkward and I don't think I will ever get used to the cursor not reseting to attack for the next character after I've entered a comand for the one before him.
