why are we calling this a remake? looks like a port to me.

Has a couple new features in it. Some quest maker theater thingy.

And Hitler has shades.

I kinda figured they were bringing this here. The whole Hitler shades thing kinda gave a hint...

Question is will EP follow up.

Well, for what it sets out to do... a pet sim, Nintendogs actually does pretty well!

Waiting mostly for Megaman Legends 3, and then Capcom pulls this "buy the demo to show us you want it" thing. A rumor of Monster Hunter... and possibility of Etrian Odyssey 4.

Just a really, really slow start for the 3DS, but I imagine it'll pick up by Q1 next year. IIRC, the DS didn't really take off until the DSLite hit.

If 7th Dragon was Etrian Odyssey 1.5, does this 7th Dragon become Etrian Odyssey 3.5 (Strange Journey is 2.5)?

Looks pretty good, but the fact we didn't get the first one and this being a PSP game is some bad signs for us.

It's very very good they did that. DQ9 brought in boatloads of new fans, and all of them missed out on the goodness that was V because it was out of print. No longer.

I know it'd probably be unlikely, but maybe we could have both UMDs on PSN as separate titles like episodes.

Here's the problem; it's not the first and second halfs of the game are divided onto two discs; the game-world is. And in that game, you get an airship that allows you travel around the country, and with that, you'll be changing discs often. And in case you're asking, the reason why that isn't the case in this game is because you're stuck in one of the 5 parts of the country at a time, and in addition to that, as long as this game can get, the second game is so even longer. (Twice as much text as this one, if that's any indicative.

So hopefully, you all can understand just how much of a problem this is...

I still think they can get away with a UMD release. I doubt people buying this one are going to dump their PSPs even in light of the PSP2 (I hate the NGP name >_>), so they can at least expect to get the same numbers for that as they would this.

Got my limited edition today, but I'm not playing it until a few a months before the second game hits (whenever that is....)

Even if they solve the problem and bring it out, it'll still be about a years wait so...

Ah, blue. I like it.

Also, Hare of Inaba. Alice will be in. Hopefully more of the more notable demons pop up. Appreciated the reviving of some of Kaneko's older works, but some of them were unremarkable... and there's no reason they can't have those with a lot of the current favorites.

It'd also be nice if Lucifroz makes another appearance.

Probably because the 3DS has nothing going for it right now. The launch games aren't really impressive.

It's gonna really suck if we can't get the 2nd game. As much as I'd like to have all 3 games, at the very least get the 2nd one out because it completes the overarching story presented in 1. While I commend and love XSEED for bringing these Falcom games over, this situation seems to have illustrated some degree of shortsightedness on their part.

PSP has Monster Hunter in Japan, it's not going anywhere over there for this year at least. Not to mention they still have some new game being announced.

Though, what the PSP has in it's favor here is that most JRPG fans, this game's target, have PSPs. They likely won't be tossing them either. It can still work.

My guess about the 2 UMD problem would be the transition. They've done it with PS1 games though, so... I dunno. Maybe UMDs have some weird thing going on about that.

EDIT -- Eusis hit a pretty big point though, PSP has an obscene piracy problem. Even then though, XSEED seems to have a pretty decent committed buyer base.

Actually, when I think about it I figure the chances of Trails in the Sky 2 still hitting stores are pretty good. Systems rarely just keel over dead upon the release of a successor, and we still don't know for sure when the NGP hits. If they can get it out in March at least (though it took over a year to translate this it seems...) then I imagine chances are good it'll hit shelves still. The third game's another story, but with the story more or less resolved in 2 and the fact 3 and the rest are 1 UMD I imagine we're clear there.

I agree with this. Really, the only thing that makes me uneasy is XSEED's comments themselves. It's like they don't want to entertain the possibility of a UMD-only release.

Pretty excited about this, but at the same time, concerned about the future of the trilogy here.

XSEED already said they don't know what to do about the 2nd game, which due to two UMDs, can't be put to PSN (not even Falcom could do it), and they don't know what will become of UMD by the time the game is ready.

Hope they at least try a UMD release.
