1  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: No Kingdom Hearts 3 by 2012 and something about Versus XIII. on: September 29, 2010, 06:37:08 AM
When will Square-Enix ever learn anything about creating products efficiently? Your consumers will still buy your games if they are 30 hours instead of 60 hours!
2  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Anyone planning to pick up Atelier Rorona? on: September 26, 2010, 04:30:51 PM
I decided to skip Atelier Rorona and went and bought the Japanese version of Atelier Totori straight up. Although the 3d models are much more prettier, I am really feeling how much characterization from the first game I am missing out.

If anything, it is worth it for the skits because they do wonders at making the characters the character they are.
3  Media / General Games / Re: Have you ever played a Visual Novel? And why not? on: September 15, 2010, 12:30:00 AM
999 is an adventure game being brought out soon by  Aksys games. I hear it is excellent. One to look out for.
4  Media / General Games / Re: Ever17 USA... is it even available? on: September 15, 2010, 12:23:19 AM
To the OP,  I think this is a better solution.
Buy a copy of the PSP game http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9f-49-en-70-3v0x.html
The money will go towards the Japanese companies.
Then go find yourself a digital copy somewhere on the net and play it in English. It's everywhere.
5  Media / General Games / Have you ever played a Visual Novel? And why not? on: September 13, 2010, 12:47:42 AM
A brief introduction... In my spare time, I work as a fan translator for visual novels. http://vndb.org/d6
Currently the project I am working on is called Katahane.
(Incidentally, a visual novel was awarded the 18th best 'RPG' of the decade on RPGfan.com. Ever17 http://www.rpgfan.com/features/Top_20_RPGs_of_the_Last_Decade/20-18.html  ... )

And so as a fan translator, I am overly curious. Have you heard of visual novels before? Have you played one? And most importantly, why not if you have not? A genuine question.

My blog.

Any comments appreciated.

Great episode, you guys have a good dynamics in this one. I found it thoroughly entertaining.

I am all dribble over this game. SRPG/Schmup combination on the clearer and larger screen of the PSP (with D-pad controls!).
9  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: NIS Taint Doing So Well on: August 10, 2010, 05:40:04 AM
While it is awfully bold of me but. I will always continue to support NIS, no matter how badly they do. Because NIS are the ones who brought us a little series called Marl Kingdom. Marl Kingdom series has had games spawn on the PSOne, PS2 and the NDS and most recently on the PSP, Antiphona no Seikahime which has remained unlocalized. (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=368474).

Playing the game is like watching a musical. The characters burst into song mid-scene (with fully recorded songs to boot). The pixel art is just gorgeous.

This is one of the first songs in the game. Just adorable.
10  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Flight-Plan close shop - sad day for SRPGs on: August 07, 2010, 12:43:25 AM
Flight Plan's spin-off company called Apollosoft still exists and they are releasing a new game on the 16th of Sept (an SRPG) called Blue Roses

Hirameki went belly up in '08 (who's going to take up the visual novel localization mantle now?)

Mangagamer is doing some good stuff over there on the visual novel front. High hopes from them.
There are also fan translations, which sees a release... every now and then.

Also, the people who made Odin Sphere, what was that company? They put out Muramasa and they still haven't died yet? That is a miracle.
God please live long enough to do another game.
12  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Flight-Plan close shop - sad day for SRPGs on: August 05, 2010, 10:05:53 AM

Flight-Plan specialized in making SRPGs. Games like, Dragon Shadow Spell, Eternal Poison and Summon Night series though they also make RPGs in other styles. I consider them masters at the genre. They make really interesting systems. RPGFan had an interview with the president of Flight-Plan from a while  back. http://www.rpgfan.com/features/interviews2007/index1.html

So I consider this a sad day in the history of SRPGs. For those people who really like these kinds of games, Flight-Plan was expert at appeasing that crowd. They were also a bit old hat. The genre had almost completely disappeared from home console during the leap from PS2 to HD consoles. Flight-Plan tried handhelds but I guess those platforms didn't pay their investment properly what with the rampant piracy and all.

13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of PlayStation(s) revealed on: July 30, 2010, 06:06:41 AM
There is a high chance that Tales of Grace on the PS3 won't get a localization.

The other original Tales on PS3 will probably get an Xbox port and reach a sizeable audience in the West.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of Hearts Review on: July 27, 2010, 06:50:08 AM
Okay. I think I will pick this up again. Tales of Innocence got a fan translation patch I believe.
Plus, Namco Bandai seem to just be a bit lazy when it comes to organising an English release. Along with Hearts I'd love it if they localised Rebirth as well.

What IS the story with Namco Bandai's localization efforts this gen? So disappointing. I guess they are completely done with moving Japanese games in foreign territory.
