Jumped off Toukiden to play some Ace.  Running around as a swordsman in swimming trunks.  Monsters are slain while being sexy.  Stupidly fun.

From the first Youtube video Kevadu linked:

Quote
Overpopulation has become such an issue that a drastic measure has been implemented: anyone arrested for any crime is found guilty, regardless of whether or not they actually are, and forced to battle giant monsters as punishment. Defeating the monsters, known as "Abductors" because they capture civilians, reduces the Criminals' sentences.

lmfao

Bought it, and Toukiden.  I look forward to mashing buttons until monsters burst like pinatas.

Finally started playing The Walking Dead that came with my Vita.  Great game so far, but the port is half-assed.  Constant stuttering and freezing as you play it.

Christ, I can't wait to get back home.  I have a lot of catching up to do.

Soul Sacrifice is... weird.  I'm not sure what to think of the combat system.  The lore and story so far are pretty interesting though.  The presentation reminds me of the powerpoint segments of Lost Odyssey.

Finished Ys: Memories of Celceta last night.  Had fun with it, but it's not as good as Ys: Oath in Felghana was.  I feel it had a lot to do with it being too similar to run-of-the-mill JRPGs with party members.  I like Adol better when he's by himself taking care of business and not having a party of bad anime tropes in tow.  Persona 4 Golden was full of anime tropes too, but I still liked the cast since they were fleshed out pretty nicely.  Celceta's cast was just terrible.

On to Soul Sacrifice!

I remember there was also one guy in the chat that was a complete Falcom fanboy and dealt pirated games.

That would be Kadamose.  He was the guy who first hacked LunarNet back before it became RPGFan, IIRC.

It's crazy thinking how that was about half my lifetime ago.  I was a weird kid back then.

Titania was... different.  She kind of disappeared entirely after exposing her blatant plagiarism.  Wonder if she still hates my guts to this day.

It certainly adds a lot more to a smaller scale story with lots of character development that makes the characters feel more like actual characters than a larger scale one with none of those qualities whatsoever.

Aesop's "The Fox and the Grapes" is an incredibly simple story that makes you think about cognitive dissonance.  There is no character development.  But it's not needed, because that's not the point of the story.  Every author has a different purpose for what they are writing.  Each author determines what they want to focus on.

You like character-centric stories.  That's fine, there's nothing wrong with that.  I however, take issue with your notion that stories that aren't character-centric aren't told well.

The stretch goal for Vita being lowered to $1 million makes me really happy.  I was originally just observing how the Kickstarter performed, but that number is much more realistic.  Definitely donating now.

It's funny that LinkedIn is being discussed, because I'm in the process of working on my profile and getting it all set up.  On the issue of the point of it all, disregard your personal feelings on the matter for a moment.  You each individually may not see the point in it, but it may be a factor for potential employers.  Maybe they care.  By not having a profile (or an up-to-date one), you are at least one step behind your competition in an ever-shrinking, increasingly competitive job market.  It's about missed opportunity.

So yeah, working on mine.  Heh.

That isn't to say I dislike political stories of any kind, just when they're told well.

That is quite a shame that you think that way, since Persona 4, and 3 to a lesser extent, have some of the best writing in most video games. I don't understand how the interpersonal collisions grate you even though those collisions add so much depth to the characterization of the characters that make them have so much emotional impact near the end than any of Matsuno's work. Not saying the teenagers in Persona are any real than what actual teenagers act like, it's just the emotional connection is what's real. Like, whenever I see someone die in either of the Tactics games I'm like, "Um, wait who was that guy again and why should I care?" Not to say I'm right and your wrong, that's just how I feel.

Do not mistake your desire for smaller scale stories as the metric for determining what is and isn't told well.  War and Peace isn't exactly Harry Potter or The Hunger Games, but I don't think Tolstoy was aiming to write a teenage drama.  There's nothing wrong with disliking large scale stories, but they aren't badly written just because the director didn't feel like informing you what a character's favorite ramen flavor is.

The music for the area in Thanalan directly outside of Ul'dah and all of the music in Coerthas is my favorite of the 2.0 stuff.  The generic battle theme is okay, with the Coerthas version being my favorite version.  The 2.0 battle themes outside of the generic one are pretty good.

I will say though, that I really miss hearing "On Windy Meadows" while running through La Noscea.  It was easily one of my favorite songs from 1.0.  I also really miss "Quicksand", the best standard battle theme from 1.0.

Just ordered the 64 59 GB memory card for my Vita.  Such a damned rip off, but I want the space.  I can't believe I'm spending all this money on a portable, but the Vita is seriously awesome.

Though this also means that I have a 32 GB card that will be available to purchase when the new one finally gets here.  For those interested.
