2101  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Holy Crap. Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360 on: July 14, 2008, 06:17:50 PM
'08 was going to be the year of the PS3 only in fanboys' minds.

I don't regret owning all three consoles, however.  White Knight Chronicles is going to be published by SCE and thus will never see the light of day on 360.  Likewise goes to Uncharted 2, whenever Naughty Dog finishes it.  Valkyria Chronicles is going to ship in November, and Little Big Planet will be here soon.

PS3 isn't the RPG console this generation, but it still has games to play if you think the entry fee is worth it.

Boring trailer is boring.  Seriously, more than half of it was stuff we've already seen, 99% of it was CG, and it was a poorly pieced trailer at that.  The earlier ones had far better music and had better direction.  Like this one.

Show us some freakin' gameplay already, Square.  NEW gameplay that is, not that same sequence of Lightning launching soldiers into the ceiling.  We saw that bit two years ago.

Man, those announcements are badass.

I just hope they're patched to already existing 360s. :P

It will be.  I imagine they're saving all of this for the annual fall dashboard update, since they skipped the spring update that they usually do.

Disc swapping argument negated.  Now, I'm on the fence as to which version I buy.  I will wait for information.  The reasoning?

Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive.  Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.

That is fucking amazing.  Oh God, I am sooooooooooo happy right now.  My only gripe with Mass Effect was the loading issues for data... installing on the hard drive would eliminate the vast majority, if not all of it.

Basically. It's a stupid argument.

Not really.  I know Metal Gear Solid 4 has the multiple installations, but that was a special case for a game I already trolled in a thread on this board as being overhyped and overrated.  Three other games I own have the one-time install and you end up with little to non-existant load times.

That's disgusting.

LMFAO @ FFXIII on 360.

I already own a PS3 though, so I'll be getting it for my PS3 since I won't have to deal with disc swapping.  Sony sycophants are undoubtedly shitting their pants.  I need to go read all the flame wars.  It should be precious.

You obviously never played the Phantasy Star series.

In case you hadn't noticed, this game will let you have a big-ass freakin' BEAR in your party.  A bear named GUSTAV.  A bear that pulls a SHORYUKEN while smiling like a dumb animal the entire time.  8D

Boring wolf in Vesperia is boring.  Wow, a wolf in a Japanese game.  Because we didn't just get finished with Okami and Zelda: Twilight Princess.  Get out.

Who cares.  It is a happy bear.

Infinite Undiscovery, now with 100% more bear.

I want this game more than ever, now.  This is the best thing to ever happen to JRPGs.
2113  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Stupid RPG conventions/cliches you can't get past. on: July 08, 2008, 05:57:47 PM
Since Lost Odyssey was mentioned, and kids were also mentioned, those dumb kids that join your party was the moment that Lost Odyssey went from average RPG to mediocre RPG.  It's one thing when the atmosphere is cartoony like Grandia, but it's another when the game takes itself too seriously and then you have ten-year-olds standing up to knights who are being mean for the sake of being mean, so as to have an excuse for the obligatory boss fight every other hour.  It didn't help that Lost Odyssey's idiot kids are named Cooke and Mack.

Did I mention Lost Odyssey sucks?

A must read thread for anyone even remotely interested in this game.

(plus I'm HDTVless.)

This explains a lot.

For reference, I game on a 46" 1080p Samsung A550 series HDTV, so I get to see all the intricate details in 360 and PS3 games.  Infinite Undiscovery and White Knight Chronicles' respective trailers look amazing, and PS2 games look like jagged, blurry pieces of shit.

Edit: Also, the only time one should buy Blu-Ray movies is when they're on sale.  For example, I got The Last Samurai on Blu-Ray earlier this week for $15, no tax, free shipping through Amazon.  I sure do love Amazon.
