Yeah, but All-Out Attacks aren't really that helpful against bosses and do enough damage even with weak weapons to kill normal enemies anyway.

even if you use the sp boosting weapons you should unequip them after the sp boost is gone. and once you get relaxing wave and chakra ring sp isnt an issue especial if you have cool breeze on the mc.

it's the enemy AI they almost never have a sense of self. far to many times i've seen an enemy walk right up to my strongest character only to hit a unit in my back row only to be smited on the next turn by the character they walked up to.

you found persona 3's music annoying? what the hell? anyways what i found helps a lot is use izanagi's defense down debuff and get an archangel? it has a move that hits 1x to 2x when she summons the price just cast bufu on it twice with chie. also it seems like level affects the damage calculations so you would be amazed how much a few level ups help. also that knight miniboss is resi9stant to physical attacks so nuke it with elemental spells. and one last thing weapons are NOT overrated! your equiped weapons effect the damage dealt during all out attacks.

the battle system intrigues me because what it could mean for Squares next mmo seeing as they use the same engine. as for the game itself seeing a girl kick ass like that gives me a kind of euphoric(sp?) feeling. since i have a ps3 i may import it to get a taste of the battle system. yay! for no reigon lock on ps3!

Curious to what you think of WOTG's story so far. I'm unimpressed, myself. Heh.


If I had to rank plots (thus far) in FFXI, it would look like this (best to worst):

1. CoP
2. WotG (may move up or down depending on how it continues)
3. ToAU
4. RoZ
5. Original missions (ranks 1 - 6, Shadow Lord stuff).

And ToAU and RoZ are nearly tied.

i might agree with this expect i stopped playing CoP when i got to the three paths. needing help to see a cutscene in pso'xja was the last straw for me. possibly the only way i would finish CoP is if they removed the level caps. i play at night when most east coasters are asleep so its rare i get to do anything besides meriting and ls events. i think i was stuck on that one earth dragon for like a year and diablolos was equally painful. a few times i considered leveling jobs for cop but my pride got in the way =P so all my cop progress was as monk,however i gotta say promyvyon vahzl was a blast. god it was fun blasting memory recepticles for 1k with raging fists.

i checked out some videos on youtube and the combat looks strange. P3 was my first smt game so im a little hesitant to try this. though it does look like it has a little of a shadow hearts vibe.

I mean that every single generic character played the same and had the same moveset after a point.  Instead of having to form up combos and strategies based around who you had in your party and the abilities they had inherent to them, you could just smash out the same combo all game long since every character was identical.

I'd go further but that's the biggest point.  The individuality of all the characters was a -huge- part of what made the original game so good.  Without that, the game wouldn't have been half as spectacular, as Silmeria clearly shows.


based on your arguement can i assume you did not finish the game? because there is a point where those generic characters become not worth using anymore. i mean theres characters like hrist and brahms that have unique movesets.

The battle system in VP2 was just a terrible, dumbed-down, less pretty version of the one used in the original.

And I fail to see how my post, which said nothing about the battle system, somehow points to me being a uneducated hack who can't appreciate a good combat engine.  In fact, I'd ask the same of you because you apparently -enjoyed- that piece of garbage.  Although if you never played Lenneth then maybe I could see why you'd think it was ok.

Also: Having a background in fighting games has nothing to do with being able to appreciate a good fighting system in an RPG.  Having a background in -quality games- can make you appreciate the good battle systems more and not want to deal with the shitty ones, though, which is my problem.


please explain how it was "dumbed down". with the exception of being able to move around during battle it is virtually the same as lenneth.

No, it was a catastrophe because it was a terrible game.  I didn't mention anything about difficulty, which, incidentally, wasn't one of the problems I had with it.  The game was just incredibly boring, the story was pointless and served to do nothing but fuck up VP, the characters were soulless, the generics were -way- too generic considering how un-generic they were in VP...

The game was just terrible.  All-around terrible.  And considering that the same team made the amazing original game, it's inexcusable that they turned the thing into such a steaming pile.

too bad i'm sick of hearing him in almost every rpg i've played recently. tos 2,persona 4,eternal poison, warriors orochi 2. bleh!

as for ToS2 i think it's it crap. but the reasons i think its crap have more to do with design decisions. first of all the wii mote controls while not terrible are inferior to giving the option to use a gamecube controller. wich gets really annoying when doing some of emils air combos. if you are playing solo you cannot play as any of the original cast without jumping through a hoop at the start of every battle. the original cast CANNOT LEVEL UP NORMALLY! their levels update as the game goes along and you cant change their equipment or skills. heh i'm suprised anyone thinks ToS1 is the best in the series. its good but inferior to tales of the abyss in my opinion. i actually think TotA is the best in the series but i haven't played ToV beyond the demo yet.

i completed the game and got the true ending. the last boss was total weak sauce compared to nyx. even though i'm replaying the game for max social links(i think i completely missed 3 links on my first play through) i still maintain that P3 was better. p4 really doesn't start to get interesting until the last 15 hours or so of the game. also no monad road = lame.

i have a question though. does anyone have a problem with the inconsistancies(sp?) between how personas are obtained and summoned in P3 and P4?
