A short summary of the wholesome goodness that is Einherjar:

Exhibit A: Einherjar, like Dynamis, features *massive hordes* of enemies.

That PLD, who has incredible gear and full merits, flashed one of the Dark Elementals, which resulted in *ten* of them swarming him as the BRDs tried to sleep them.  He lived for, oh... five seconds?  But his sacrifice was not in vain, for the elementals were successfully slept!

At this point, the BLM leader called out a time, and the 8 BLMs began simultaneously casting Thundaga III.  The plan was to Thundaga III > Horde Lullaby > Firaga III > Horde Lullaby > Thundaga III, then they would be dead.  Frankly, I'm not entirely sure what happened, but hey, let's move on to...

Exhibit B: {Death}ga, another feature of the cavernous hell known as Einherjar.

There it is, your standard "Einherjar wipe!" screenshot.  We raised, rested up, and actually did a damn good job finishing off the rest of the elementals and 4 of the 6 Tainted Fleshes before running out of time.  Didn't make it to the boss fight, haha.

All-in-all, considering that 75% of the shell's members had never done Einherjar before, I think it was a great attempt.  We shall return next Monday for another opportunity at losing exp, gil, and our sanity!

looks like you coulda used some monks with formless strikes >_>

not really asuran fists hasn't aged well. i in fact sometimes prefer howling fist over asuran since howling fist and dragon kick were buffed.

i see thanks for the response. at the very least campaign seems like something great to do while lfg. i've never been very good at making my own parties. mnk/dnc looks somewhat promising too at least on paper. hth +drain samba and i also read that waltzes are based on vit.

how is wotg on solo content? over the years my social network has dwindled to the point that its hard for me to get anything done that requires a group besides exp and merits. i cant even get people to do assault because im still on the first tier of assaults. in order to better help you answer my only level 75 job is monk and my nin sub is level 16 =P ive been working on drg though and its almost 60 and i thouroughly enjoy drg/mage.

if you care to see my gimpness =P

Race/Job combinations?  Taru will always be the "best" mages because of their racial emphasis on MP, MND, and INT, and Mithra will always be the "best" THFs, RNGs etc. because of their high AGI and DEX values, but it doesn't matter much and no one really cares anymore.  Galka WHMs, Mithra BRDs, all sorts of "inferior" combinations are very acceptable, these days, and any minor differences in the racial stuff can be easily accounted for with good gear and merit points.

EDIT - Last night's accomplishements.  44.5 COR --> 47 COR, and helped Leyviur kill the two NMs for the SAM quest (which he has now unlocked, I believe)!

actually im pretty sure mithra and taru are tied for the worst mind. plus from my time with whm and blu i always felt +mp was worthless unless you are zerging since once things get going you will rarely get back to full mp or completely exhaust your mp. then again im an elvaan female so i may be downplaying mp. meh i should get a new sig since when i had it made i was planning to level puppetmaster to 75 wich i promptly retired at 23 =o

so far this week has kinda sucked for me i havent had an invite since last week on drg(57) so i soloed most of the AF for it then got annoyed that i cant just go hundred fist the AF3 NM since you have to have your wyvern called for the 2 shadow nm's to pop =/ a lot of my ls has shifted to earlier times over the years so its hard for me to get help with stuff at night. oh i had to kill dark spark twice to clear the sam af gloves quest... oh well back to drg/blu soloing for 2k an hour  >_<

Divine Assault...
Ether Strike!

Freya:You fly too close to the sun.

1868  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Replaying RPGs? on: March 02, 2007, 08:06:42 AM
um i played through the original valkyrie profile about 10 times. theres so many characters and unlike vp2..... each one is unique. i played through xenosaga 3 twice because i wanted to check the alternate skill paths and i missed a lot of sidequests and such in my first playthrough. typically theres 2 reasons i'll replay a game
A.nostalgia
B.gameplay

i hate hard rpg's but this may have more to do with my personality since im extremely stubborn(in ff7 i only gave cloud materia that increased his melee abilities) when i encounter something in an rpg that i find hard i very quickly get frustrated wich leads to anger then controllers being thrown at the wall.i also hate it when i have to alter my regular equipment just to beat a boss.

edit:the problem in ff9 is that freya and steiner are some of the most powerful characters. when i beat the game they were both oit damaging garnets summons. and i particularly liked freya because a friend once said i remeinded him of her O_o

the swoop minigame on kotor was annoying to me because i was playing on pc.

in reference to forgetting wich way i was going after a battle. this only happens to me in rpg's that grant you a bonus for touching the enemy from a certain angle.

I find that on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd only give SO3 a 7 or 8. It's decent, but a lot of games have done much, much better. Radiata Stories definitely looks better both from a technical and artistic viewpoint, for example. I do agree that awesome 2D is always desired, and I wish more developers would do it. But it's not like we have blocky messes that are far away from looking remotely realistic.

as much as i love radiata stories(hello being able to recruit lenneth owns your face, plus jack is my favorite male charachter in an rpg since ryudo) in terms of gameplay it's probally tri-ace's worst game yet.though admitedly i havent played star ocean 1,maybee it will show up on virtual console translated? the amount of times i got 1 shooted in the game must be against the law somehwere.

moving on...

some things i hate

rpg's with only 4 characters that you virtually start the game with.

what ever happened to secret characters?

games that force you to lose characters for half the game in the name of story-worst offender ff9.

when you get into a battle then when the battle's over you forgot wich way you were going.

traditional rpg's that dont have some form of limit break, overdrive etc. bore me. lol ffx-2...

companies that make games with the word shining in the title but there no strategy in sight

rpg's that use artificial means of increasing the difficulty such is the case in dragon quest 8 having no revival items, and when you finally get revival spells they have a % chance of working.

why are characters always standing still in battle? the horseback battles in wild arms 3 were freakin sweet!

more rpg's need team up attacks. these first appeared in chrono trigger yet to this day they dont appear much in rpg's.

difficulty levels with perks-valkyrie profile gave you incentive to play on higher difficulties in the form of characters items and an ending. i want to see more of this.

god as the ultimate evil has NEVER bothered to me and actually makes a lot of sence to me.

even though raine was a mage her personality was refreshing for a mage type. i wisht he the ps2 version of ToS was released here. those hi ougis look damn cool!

ive long since been sick of people complaining about cliches. the problem isnt cliches its poorly done cliches. on a side note id like to see more rpg's in the future like kotor where you get to customize the main character.
1874  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Things you can’t bear in RPGs on: August 31, 2006, 09:11:12 AM
thats my point.she starts the game awesome and becomes increasingly more stupid and whiny as the story progresses.i loved how she made fun of jack all the time.and whats with jack's sister sucking so bad? WTF? she taught jack how to fight... and she fights with slaps....very disapointing especially from tri-ace a company that seems to like it's strong female characters.then again VP:S looks pretty shitty too half the female characters are archers and they pull a dbz at the end of the game =/
