Its very unlikely Sony will catch up hardware-wise any time soon, if ever. They know their bread and butter, and that was  Blu-Ray as a long term profitable venture and using the PS3 to push it. The price barrier is just too high, and not enough games are coming out for it.

Japan IS Nintendoland, no doubt about it, and I guarantee you the PS3 will never catch up there. Ever. Sony has a good chance in Europe, but with GTA4, Halo 3, and the better versions of football games being released on the 360, it won't capture the casual jock crowd of the US. And don't underestimate sports games, remember it was those games that helped the PS2 beat the Dreamcast in the times of old!

after your comment about dreamcast i disreguarded your entire post.

also E3 is coming up next week so that will be very important.
2387  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Recommended Real Time RPG's on PS2? on: July 04, 2007, 08:47:16 PM
i think shining tears is great if like me you have a high thresh hold for repetition and have someone to play it with.

theres also phantasy star universe, 2 baulders gate games, 2 champions of norrath games. ive only played one of the .hack games but at the time i played it i found its combat to be inferior to phantasy star online(is was the first game in the series that i played).  hmmn could valkyrie profile 2 be considered realtime?

But I must say... I don't have much of an excuse this time, my cue has run out... I'm sorta looking for games to play, especially now that my playthrough of Valkyrie Profile 2 has sorta fallen through (it's a great game, but I was terrible at it, and I would have had to grind for hours just to get anywhere).

just to clear something up. if you suck at VP2 no amount of leveling up will help. the main reason to level up is to learn new attacks and get points for setting skills. to key to success is in sealstones. more often than not you can become near invincible via sealstones.

ahem sorry for going offtopic there VP is a series i cherish >_>
2390  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Front Mission 5 (USA)? on: July 03, 2007, 07:13:27 PM

front mission was pretty difficult as far as srpg's go. its almost like super robot wars without seishin. so i wouldnt be suprised if the drop in price was from a lot of people trading it in. i liked FM4 but never finished it because i lost interest near the end of the game.

Same, I got to the end and suddenly lost interest. The plot was going nowhere and the battles lacked flair near the end. I hovered on the though to finish up the game for over 6 months, popped out a codebreaker from my neighbour, winged it, saw the ending and traded it in. -.-;;

In the meantime, FFXIII and FM5 are the last things I'd care about. I didn't even touch Dawn of Mana, and I traded in FFXII.

I'm too hooked to Super Robot Wars Original Generations to care anyways.  >.>

i really hope that game comes out in the states i really liked the R originals, and i'll finally have something better for Leona than the Guarlion Custom/Wildwurger L :o
2391  The Rest / General Discussions / AMA may label 'Video Game Addiction' as disorder on: July 03, 2007, 07:58:10 AM
i think videogames are a strange addiction since its not like smoking where you will smoke the same cigaretes your entire life. i play about 6 hours a day more on my days off but i dont think im addicted and if i am theres supplementary factors. also if i had to give up videogames to break a supposed addiction id probally replace it with something else such ass a ccg or something, and i wonder if i could function without them since a life without them is hard for me to fathom.
2392  The Rest / General Discussions / The Pulse of the RPG Gaming Community (Wii / 360 / PS3) on: July 03, 2007, 07:38:42 AM
games aside its as simple as this. wii is loli jail bait. xbox360 is a big muscle guy that looks ugly and ps3 is a hot japaneese chick.

in all seriousness even though i champion gameplay i believe in rpg's graphics are possibly more import than they are in any other genre. simply due to the fact that many times you will be watching on screen attacks that you commanded. ive never liked xbox so it would neeed a phenominal rpg for me to consider one. something like valkyrie profile 3 would have to announced as being exclusive to it,or a new SRW game. wii just has no interest for me,and its image is offputting to me. ps3 has some hot shit in my mind. ffxiii and a new level 5 game :o plus non rpg's like dmc 4 and heavenly sword.

to make it short and simple i like mainly rpg's and fighting games and the ps3 is likely to have more of both. meanwhile the xbox is chock full of fps wich is a genre im not a fan of.
2393  Media / Single-Player RPGs / any modern rpgs/soundtracks like Parasite Eve etc.? on: July 03, 2007, 12:09:16 AM
i gotta sound like a fangirl by now but theres super robot taisen/wars original generation 1 and 2 for gba they both either take place in present day or the not to distant future. and imo has really nice upbeat music depending who you attack with :o and both games are published in the states by Atlus lol.

Anyone here who knows me (or still remembers me) can tell you that it's pretty impossible to offend me, personally. I just don't care to see sophomoric behavior and the degradation of a perfectly viable topic. Not that it's my job to police these boards--old habits just die hard.

i normally don't get angry like that but this was something that built up over time with people saying i am bitching every time i don't like something.

back on topic i can think of a few games where making things more complicated actually made the game worse than its predesessor(sp?)

2397  Media / Single-Player RPGs / if it's not broken dont fix it... on: July 01, 2007, 12:20:13 AM
i understand what you are saying about stagnation but thats not what im talking about my beef is series that make big changes after only one installment(xenosaga1/2,FFX/FFX-2) you dont need to reinvent the wheel until it starts to wear out. also that crap about appealing to a wider audience pisses me off because it often results in making the games worse. not to mention shining tears rips crap from shining force such as Anri/Neige,behemoth/dark dragon
2398  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Soul Calibur IV on: June 29, 2007, 09:39:51 PM
SC3 was disapointing only because a couple characters such as sophitia were breoken and the tournament mode AI was also broken. i just hope setsuka returns. the only character i hope doesnt return is night terror he joins the ranks of cheap fighting game bosses.

edit:after watching the video i hope they either release it in arcades first or have updates to the game via xbl and psn
2399  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Blue Dragon for both NA and Europe in August. on: June 29, 2007, 09:31:43 PM
the problem with short games at least for me is that i'm a marathon gamer. so if a game is only 20 hours long i can knock it out in 1 weekend witch in my opinion is NOT 50-60 dollars well spent. its ok if the main storyline is only 20 hours long as long as there is some worthwhile unlockables and/or bonus dungeons ala VP's seraphic gate. as for blue dragon... the art direction blows. and from what little i've seen all the characters look like kids.
2400  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Bioware to develop Sonic RPG for the DS - WHAT THE HELL on: June 29, 2007, 09:23:08 PM
i actually thought sonic riders was fairly decent, however in my opinion sonic is one of those series that makes absolutely no attempt to grow up with its audience. also i think theres some things that sega does better with sonic than nintendos does with its series. example since sonic 2 sega has continued to introduce new and interesting characters, meanwhile mario still has mario as the only playable character, same goes for zelda. i keep holding out hope maybe one day i'll see a female incarnation of link.
