Aeolus, I can see what you mean about that top screenshot, but I just don't like how extreme the deformity is for the humanoid characters.  When they're reduced to looking like they're just heads moving around, that's just too much.  At least in the bottom screenshot they're... vaguely person-like.
The issue I have is that the chibis look like bobble head dolls.

I was looking at some of the more recent Dissidia images when I noticed something.  In the image depicting Terra Branford from FF VI, she is depicted with green hair.  She's supposed to be a blonde.  When did they change this?

World of Final Fantasy has an English Trailer!

SO CUTE!!  I mean, it looks pretty goofy, but there's still a lot of fun to be had in serious dialogue spoken by adorable SD characters.  I don't get how the two different models fit in (the normal vs SD ones)
The excessive cuteness if the trailer gave me a toothache.  I am not sure if I am looking forward to it or not.  The SD characters are both adorable and a turn off.

If he's used to using his skills in tournament settings, I wouldn't be surprised if he had trouble adapting said skills to real world situations.  In any case, it's fucked up that he was mugged.  This seriously puts a tarnish on this year's Olympics.  The government of Rio must be feeling enormous embarrassment that these incidents are occurring on their watch.  Just you watch, if this continues the fallout will result in a number of officials being scapegoated and losing their jobs.

The thing that I've noticed about Velvet's alternate costumes is how they all show off her body.  Yes, we get it, she's cute.  That doesn't mean you have to constantly put her on display!  Seriously, how about giving her a practical costume perchance?  These alternate costumes are still way better than her canon outfit, though.  I fucking hate what she's wearing.  The outfit is so fucking awful, she'd be better off nude.

The other part that bothers me about the clothes she's given is that if the goal is for her to be sexy, they can do that without being so in your face with some if the costume choices.  I think with some imagination, you can pull off sexy and somewhat practical.  For instance, they can put her in clothing that hugs her form while also providing protection when going into combat.

One last note on her main costume.  They are little more than rags.  When looking at some of the screenshots, it seems that at some point she was a captive of someone and escaped.  If that is the case, wearing them for a while makes sense.  Unfortunately it looks like she'll be wearing them for the entire game, which is insane.  She should wear something more practical.  Also, for what it's worth; Rutee's outfit, while also impractical, is at least an improvement over Velvet's regular costume.  Much better.  Hell, so is the magical outfit they put on Velvet.  At least they aren't rags.

I want to repeatedly dope slap the character designer who came up with Velvet's costume.  As guilty as he or she is, though, it's whoever greenlighted the design that really sticks in my craw.  I want to give that person a large dose of instant sunshine.

Did I mention how much I utterly loathe Velvet's outfit?

I do like the idea of legacy outfits, though.  They're a nice homage to the classic Tales games of ages past.  Hopefully, Namco Bandai will offer a discounted bundle for the costumes when the game crosses over from the Pacific.  In any case, it's definitely a way for them to nickel and dime their customers for content that has no practical gameplay benefit.

Looking forward to the Skies playthrough.

On the topic of hair and going grey, I definitely have some of the latter.  My beard in particular has a salt and pepper look which I kind of like.  I also have some grey up top.  The old hairline is holding up fairly well, but it is thinning a bit.  Still, I have a coworker a decade younger than me who is beginning to suffer the effects of hair loss.  When I noticed it, it made me feel better about approaching my 40's.

On other news, I recently dug out my PSP and played a bit of Lunar: Silver Star Harmony.  I had forgotten about the annoying loading times.  The game is pretty and definitely fun, but the slow loading is a huge drawback when playing the game.  Now I need to find the rest of my old PSP games.  I've definitely got some gems in my collection.

I am going grey.  Fortunately, my hairline seems to holding out.  Getting old sucks ass, especially now that I have to deal with frequent back pain.  It wouldn't be so bad if I had a medical plan worth a damn.  The one I have is high deductible, so I can't afford to seek medical attention.

Fuck the private health insurance system.  All it is is a cash sucking machine that fucks over poor saps like me who are under insured.

Aleo, the back pain really sucks.  Sometimes it makes me feel decades older than I actually am.

@Andrew & Arvis: There's not a right way to say this, but, have both of you guys seen your avatars? Do you notice the irony and lack of self-awareness there is by showing a dislike to chibis and have a 2D chibi sprite in your profile?

I'm not trying to be judgemental. Is just that, that's why I'm seeing and I find it a bit curious.
I'm not a fan of the chibi look either.  For me it's a sizeable turn off.  I think part of the reason is that in this game's iteration, the chibification is quite extreme.

Companion Manga? I'm out.

Also congrats on your 9000th post Aeolus, try not to waste your 10k post like this one.
Is it the manga tie in that turns you off or the fact that it's a micro-transaction based game for smartphones.  It's the latter that turns me off more than the former.  So much for any promise this game may have had.

In spite of Velvet's horrible costume choices, I am still feeling a buzz about this game.  If this game is close to as good as it looks, I think I will be in for a treat.

Milestone check-in.

About 2 years ago, I stopped drinking alcohol.  Best decision I ever made.
About a year and a half ago, I gave up the touring/gigging musician lifestyle.  Best decision I ever made.
About 6 months ago, I became a vegetarian.  Best decision I ever made.
They can't all be the best decision you ever made. :P  There can only be one!

In any case, congratulations on all three milestones.  I don't think I can ever give up eating meat, but I do respect those individuals who do give it up.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Square Enix New "Dramatic RPG" on: July 31, 2016, 07:36:44 AM
So Square Enix, according to this article is coming out with a new dramatic RPG (whatever the fuck that means).  They haven't announced any platform for it, however.  My guess is that it's for mobile platforms.  Anyone else want to take a guess?
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XV, This is a fantasy based on reality. on: July 23, 2016, 03:56:08 AM
I find it interesting that while you have games like the Tales series that retain their anime style look, the Final Fantasy series has gone the opposite direction and sought out as realistic as possible character designs.  The woman in that image could be an actual human being.

More side-characters/sidequests.

Also, nice pallet swap/haircut Lailah (I bet you dyed your hair that color to enable you to move 3 times faster).

Also also, I think I know who gave Velvet Demon-Arm-pies.
This is Velvet, correct:

Here's the thing, based on the screenshots of the game I have seen, it looks like she's a melee character.  All of her alternate costumes, additionally show even more skin than this get up.  What the fuck?  I like fan service as much as the next guy, but her outfit really annoys me.  She should be wearing something far more practical for combat.  If she was, the alternate costumes wouldn't bother me as much.

Seriously, she can be dressed sexy and practically at the same time if that's the developer's goal.  This costume isn't it.
