The fuck. Nobody is ignoring me though.

Keep posting in the Haiti topic and you might though!  But seriously, I find it amusing anyone would be offended enough by posts to take the effort of ignoring anyone since most of the folks that I would have ignored at say GameFAQs get banned after a few posts here anyway.

has this topic turned into anything interesting, yet?

So many lurid scandals have been mentioned (and in such vivid detail!) in this thread that I nearly thought we had ourselves the makings of an RPGFan tabloid.

(i think most of the ppl that went to college know that there are careers not as hard as others), and i know i picked the second hardest of my college (first one being phsicologist), and is telecomunications engineering..

Pfft, pros like me get degrees devalued by society and then get paid big bucks for crap they don't know. That's how the real world works, and that's why the real world is screwed up.  College is generally pretty easy regardless of which way you go as long as you don't do something silly like take classes in a subject you don't excel in.  In any case, you're probably doing something wrong if you're a full-time student, don't work, and don't have ample free time to follow through on any hobby.  Hell, I think I averaged 40 hours or so a week of WoW when I was pursuing my master's.

So seriously. I have far, far, far more free time now than I ever did in highschool. Did you all go to the easiest highschools on earth or something?

I haven't been to ye olde high school in quite some time, but with all the furlough days, I'd imagine that makes the video gaming possibilities much higher.  And then there's always the...under-performing high school track with career professional burger makers.  Not that there's anything wrong with those, mind you, I need my low-grade meal fixes every once in a while.

Mine depends on when I get in the mood to play.  I generally get in ~2 hours of portable gaming during my exercise.  Oh and 100 or so history books because there's something about history that makes me all giddy.  Yeah...

Though I don't have a PS3 yet, that would certainly be one big step in making me go in that direction.

If it opens the doors to a possible localization of Sakura Wars 1+2 for PSP, that would be amazing.
I don't want a downgraded port, they need to bring over the remake of 1 instead.

I'm happy enough to get any Sakura Taisen over here since I figured the series never would have been localized here in the first place. :p  Realistically, since PSP games don't sell here, the PS2 remake would be more likely, but then realistically I'm not planning to see another Sakura Taisen game localized here either.

I really want this to be a success, but the odds of that are looking very bleak.

But releasing on a last gen system this far out in a series with limited appeal in this country is BOUND to sell a billion copies!
9  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ar tonelico 3 coming to the PS3 January 2010 on: December 26, 2009, 11:34:46 AM
Oh now that i think about it (even if is no excuse) the are tonelico 2 bug is kind of logical that they missed it, since they normaly use hax or something to be like lvl 200 to be able to beat the game fast, they obviously kill raki (if i remember her name correctly) in like 1 or 2 turns

Uh, you don't need to be anywhere near that level to one-turn kill the character.   It IS easy to avoid if you don't bother to do the optional fights.  It's just obvious they never bothered to do the optional parts.  And I'm going to have to call shenanigans on the editor bit.  The guy clearly didn't bother sifting through the mess that is the AT2 dialogue (though it makes sense there were multiple translators, given the SIGNIFICANT change in quality from acted dialogue to optional dialogue).

The "regular versions" will probably retail everywhere for $30. I'd recommend paying more to get the Japanese voice disc from the LE. As good as the English VA is, the original is always worth hearing.

When the seiyuus aren't butchering English, the Japanese casting for Sakura Taisen's been pretty darn solid.  Kind of lame NIS resorted to the whole LE only version to offer the original cast, but all things said and done, it's better than no Japanese option.  Or cutting ~25% of the Japanese lines or whatever like with Ar Tonelico 2.

Maybe Kanji's a dickgirl.

Judging by fanart...

Code:
that's Teddie.  Hurray for those insane Japanese.

Kanji fucking falls over himself drooling over Naoto, and does so openly and publicly only after finding out she's a girl.  There is nothing in the game to suggest that he's gay except for his shadow self, which the end of the game reveals to be nothing more then what other people WANTED to see, not what his true feelings actually were.

Code:
I dunno, the whole camp scene certainly didn't help Kanji's case out (his rather, ah, interesting interest in the fellow male persona users and the altogether bizarre reaction to the female persona users), especially since nose bleeds are the euphemistic display of an erection in Japanese popular culture.  Unless the kid has the slowest reaction ever to Chie and Yukiko, the most direct correlation is the scene with the guys in the water. And the mock dating scene if you choose to be "female" and "date" Kanji.  Kanji also seemed just a little TOO excited about wearing a dress for the cultural fair too.

As mentioned in the article, the best evidence seems to be the last line from his s-link where he discusses how his shadow self is him.  Considering Shadow Kanji wasn't just effeminate, I'm not really sure what else he could have been referring to.

Granted, I'd really have to play the game again for it to be fresh enough in my memory, but there is no other character I can recall being so transparently gay in video games other than the shopkeepers in the Shadow Hearts series and the shop keeper in SMT: Nocturne and the guy from Enchanted Arms.  It would also explain why he's the butt of SO many jokes because every gay character like ever is treated as anathema by everyone else in every Japanese series out there but shounen-ai (at which point it's expected).

Some stuff to look forward to down the road.

Persona 5 please.  A combined Persona 2 PSP port/remake wouldn't be shabby though.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGFan policies/guidelines/protocols for commercial RPGM titles (est. 10/2009) on: December 16, 2009, 07:19:52 AM
I guess this is as good as any other place to mention it, but I find that RPGFan tends to give high scores to most games they review, not just the RPGM stuff. I rarely see any scores under 70%, and usually the reason that happens is because the game was truly filled with programming/porting issues like Grandia 2 or involved really stupid design choices (FFXI: ACP). Even then, the score is probably in the 60% range somewhere. I think I've only ever seen 2 or 3 scores in the 1-50% range on the site, all of them coming from Editors that I don't believe work around here anymore.

I pretty much agree on that (do I think that Champions of Norrath is as good as Ar Tonelico, which has about the same score?  No, but then I prefer that sort of game more.  Objectively speaking I couldn't say Ar Tonelico would merit 91% even though I loved it), but that isn't to say the inflated scores are necessarily a bad thing, you just have to realize that they are pretty much all high.  On a site that I rely on the most for anime reviews, the person in question scores very highly on most titles (anything below a B+ is EXTREMELY rare).  On the other hand, if you are an ardent fan of something or another, the odds are you won't quibble as much with the foibles as the general consumer would.  But really you can't as a conscientious consumer rely on any one source as the sole reviewing place either.

Although the fact RPGFan even reviews independent RPGs is somewhat rare.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: December 15, 2009, 07:42:06 PM
No, it's just that they're pretty clear-cut about it by the end of the game.

More like they caved in.  There's absolutely nothing throughout the game up until a particular plot point that suggests he doesn't swing that way.  Just because they spend 99% of the game suggesting one way and the last blip they're like, "Lol, whatever," hardly invalidates everything up to that point.

Edit: Hmm, I figured based on the article date that it had been linked here before, but I guess that was just a regular discussion.

Kind of surprised Strange Journey isn't having some kind of preorder bonus...
