Well, "free to play" games are games where you literally *can* play them without spending any sort of money. They are indeed the games that are free to download and play, though they'll almost certainly generate revenue via a cash shop of some sort. You are using the term (as flawed as it may be) incorrectly, hence the confusion presented on this page.
As well, Diablo 3 is not an MMO, so comparing it to games such as WoW or FFXI in the way you are (speaking of monthly fees and such) is a bit silly.

No lie, I was about ready to write this game off until last night.
I was close to writing it off when I heard no off line mode but, free to play, what the hell. I still can't believe how much hate and "dissapointment" this game is getting because afterall, its free to play (assuming you have internet - and lets not even get into it if you don't). If there was a monthly fee I'd say, hate away guys! But, alas, I won't "complain" about a free game. *(o.=)* I really wouldn't call a game with a $60 entry fee "free-to-play" by any stretch of the term, nor do I really understand why something like that would make someone shy away from criticism.

I played all of the classes through the beta. I want to like the Monk more than I do and am hoping the later skills will allow that to happen, so I'll probably be playing one as my first character. Demon Hunter also stood out as being very fun and appealing, so that's a likely second candidate. But really, I enjoyed all 5 and will certainly be playing all 5 sooner or later. Hard to believe that it's only days until I can finally play this...

I thought each weapon set for the Thief has their own initiative but you only regenerate imitative with the weapon set your currently using. Which meant that when both your Weapon Sets are full of Initiative, you can spike a lot of damage by switching between them.
Or did that change in the latest beta this past weekend?
I... actually don't recall either way. That would be both good and bad. The spike potential would of course be nice, but if you really wanted to use a skill from your second moveset and had switched when you were low on initiative... well, I suppose there's the myriad of initiative restoring skills and mechanics, then.

It works perfectly fine with the Thief. Dual Pistols + Run around mobs = farming. If you set your talents and skills up right you'll have many ways to quickly regenerate your Initiative.
I like that Thief has a bunch of stuff to regain initiative. Especially nice for dual pistols that Roll for Initiative rolls you backwards and all, too. I meant specifically switching weapon sets for the purpose to using the other skills that weren't on cooldown since Thief has no cooldowns on the normal skills. Admittedly was a pretty worthless/obvious thing to add to my post, but yeah.

I'll echo how fragile I felt as a Thief. I think I spent most of my time just using dual pistols for the sake of not getting destroyed in all the random PvE stuff I was doing. Which was fine, since dual pistols is pretty fun.
Only did a few matches of structured PvP - seems pretty fun. I could say "x class seems ridiculous" and such, but it would be entirely meaningless considering my limited experience and how I pretty much had no idea what I was doing, haha. I could definitely dish out some damage with dual daggers if I got the chance, though. Just a matter of learning how to do so properly.
Overall, it seems like a cool game. Certainly would like them to fine tune stuff a bit (which I would think they are very much doing), but on paper it all seems great and in practice it was fun.

There's a quite wonderfully informative (and lengthy) post about character customization that I was linked to earlier today and that I will share here: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3811455085One thing in particular that I was unaware of is how gems are going to be offering the stat customization aspect. Give it a read - especially if you've got concerns about this sort of thing.

I've been playing this a bit and am loving the hell out of it. I never played Dungeon Master or anything like it from that era, but this caught my attention in a huge way shortly before release. Great game so far, I just got to dungeon level 5 and not too long after doing so, died again. :D

I'm seeing on neogaf something about a PC version, that's cool too I guess.
Yeah, there was this whole petition for a PC version and it got legitimate attention from Namco, so... that's certainly a very possible outcome of this. And I saw something about some Australian PC magazine having a PREPARE TO DIE deal in the recent issue - pardon my lack of a source or specifics at the moment.

You can't actually enter the Gravelord Nito fight/area without the Lordvessel. There would be a giant orange fog gate blocking the path. It shows four of these gates disappearing in a brief cutscene when you get (or is it place?) the Lordvessel.
The gravelord stuff was another player in the gravelord covenant cursing your world. It spawns super tough red phantom versions of enemies in 3 players' worlds and drops a soul sign that prompts invading that gravelord player's world. Killing said player will put an end to it. I'm not sure on anything more specific than that, and I hear that it's kind of buggy.
I've been playing this a lot lately. I killed Gravelord Nito myself just last night, but haven't defeated any of the others of the final four bosses quite yet. Tomb of the Giants is certainly made easy with the Cast Light spell.
