You can't actually enter the Gravelord Nito fight/area without the Lordvessel. There would be a giant orange fog gate blocking the path. It shows four of these gates disappearing in a brief cutscene when you get (or is it place?) the Lordvessel.

The gravelord stuff was another player in the gravelord covenant cursing your world. It spawns super tough red phantom versions of enemies in 3 players' worlds and drops a soul sign that prompts invading that gravelord player's world. Killing said player will put an end to it. I'm not sure on anything more specific than that, and I hear that it's kind of buggy.

I've been playing this a lot lately. I killed Gravelord Nito myself just last night, but haven't defeated any of the others of the final four bosses quite yet. Tomb of the Giants is certainly made easy with the Cast Light spell.

The whole time I listened to that Arch/Matheos album, I couldn't help but think how much better it would be with Ray Alder singing. :P  Musically it's great, but I have never been a fan of John Arch's singing and probably never will be.
I'm a huge John Arch fanboy (he's probably my favorite vocalist and The Spectre Within is probably my favorite album) and I've only heard Alder on No Exit (which I didn't care for / know he changed his style a bit later on in Fates Warning), so I can only really disagree, admittedly partially due to ignorance. I believe that at least part of the songwriting was done with intention for it to be a Fates Warning album (with Alder), but that was not able to be a reality for some reason and so enter John Arch. The music aspect of it really is just alright for me, truth be told, as I'm not really into that style a huge deal. John Arch's voice and lyrics certainly makes me enjoy the album more than I likely otherwise would have.

40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room - incredibly powerful, emotional sort of doom metal band that arose from the ashes of Warning

Hell - Human Remains - fun, theatrically evil heavy metal from a band that was long dead

Manilla Road - Playground of the Damned - epic heavy metal, this band is solid as always despite their age

Twisted Tower Dire - Make It Dark - catchy heavy/power metal, I like this new style they took on and look forward more stuff

Arch/Matheos - Sympathetic Resonance - Fates Warning with John Arch but playing modern progressive metal

and then there's a fair deal of other stuff I enjoyed and even more that I should give more time. Pretty good year for me personally, though, considering that three of my absolute favorite musicians were on new releases this year.

I don't really care much for this album at all, or recent Opeth in general (I love the first 4 albums, Morningrise being my favorite). I saw them live at the beginning of this month, and will say that if you enjoy this album as much as you do, you'll probably adore their performance on this tour.

At least Katatonia played Teargas for the first time on the tour at the show I went to, and that was a nice surprise since it's my favorite song of their newer stuff.

I grinded out 6000 souls to cure my curse... but I think I'm going to grind more so I can bring a cure with me before I try the Depths again.  It probably took me a good half hour to grind it out, and to lose it all in a single moment will be unbearable.
You can purchase curse cure items for 3000 souls from the guy in the bell tower in the Undead Parish.

There's a demo of this as of yesterday on newgrounds - http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/581168

I've played the full game a bit and it's certainly worth the ~$5 I paid for it. Fun stuff.

Really, that's kind of disappointing? In the previews they said something about class abilities, like the Pyromancer (I think that's what he's called) being able to curse other peoples games to make them harder until they find and slay him.
I don't know what happened to the classes actually being different (I remember those previews), but what you described is in-game as one of the Covenants, I believe. They're sort of factions you can join which grant you special powers or even items (equipment!).

How do the classes work this time around? Demons Souls had starter configurations but it was essentially one class that you could mould as you saw fit.
From what I've seen of Dark Souls, classes seem to be more than just initial starting gear and stat distribution. I'm kind of curious to what extent this "uniqueness" goes.
It's the same as Demon's Souls. I've not really seen or read anything to indicate otherwise. Well, Thief starts with the Master Key by default, so you get a second gift of sorts. That's about it to my understanding.

He also drops that stone along with said house key (and some weapon of sorts) when you kill him.

I had killed him accidentally - as did a friend of mine - and I decided to just start over. I got back to where I was in all of an hour or so, so it wasn't really a big deal to me at all. I think I read that he's the cheapest source of normal arrows or something, but I don't really have any legitimate citation for that.

Loving the game so far, though. The first boss was pretty easy since I started as a Pyromancer and had 8 fireballs to unload on him. Then it was just a bit of melee attacking after that.

Once you go to increase a stat that req number will jump up
It doesn't actually display the amount of souls you need to level up, is what he means. So you just kind of have to remember what your last one took and get a bit more than that. I'd certainly hope it's unintended and gets fixed in a patch.

Everyone, lower your swords. I say we drop this argument and all go on a grand online adventure together on Final Fantasy XIV.

Only if you give me a cookie
is that code for buddy pass?

Pardon how much of a pedant I may be being, but is there any indication that this game is actually an MMO and not just something like PSO or Monster Hunter with the town being a glorified lobby? I see people calling it an MMO and wonder if I missed something or if it's just people having a far looser definition of that sort of thing than myself.

That's what I was suspecting, until I saw that the gameplay footage included what looked like a LOT of other players surrounding the party and watching them celebrate their victory in a fight. If it's not an MMO it's damn close.
Interesting. Suppose we'll just have to wait for more concrete details at this point.

I'm still loosely following the updates they're doing from time to time and my feelings towards them is generally positive. I do want to give this game another try in the future when it's "ready".

Although you have to wonder how long the game is going to be in the red. The fact they are still working on it and getting almost no revenue is pretty dangerous.
Yeah, I dunno. I mean, it's Square Enix it would (maybe) be safe to assume have the cash reserves to be literally bleeding money on this for a bit. It's certainly an, um, interesting scenario to say the least.

They're counting on the PS3 release giving them a second chance.  FFXI was the most profitable venture in Square Enix's history, and they were banking on XIV being successful.  They're not going to give up on it just yet.  There's a reason why there are no reviews for FFXIV in Japan (all gaming publications there have to kiss Square Enix's ass).  The PS3 release presents an opportunity to portray nothing but positive commentary, which may help the PC release recover, at least in Japan anyway.
heh, makes perfect sense in that sort of context.
