I was really happy when they announced it was coming out on XBL downloads. I was hoping it would come out before I moved out (it was my roommate's 360), but it didn't. I played the old version back on dreamcast with friends and absolutely loved it. It's a really cool style of gameplay, even if we didn't have any idea on how to play it, due to it being in Japanese.

Hopefully the 360 since the FPS is supposedly a lot better than the Ps3's for some reason.
I'm really interested in playing this game. I have some questions for you.
-My roommate said something about how the shooting, while similar to nhl 07, allows you to shank the shots if you don't pull back on the stick straight. How does that play in the game?
-How many one-timer goals do you see? I come from the old school games where one timers ruled the earth, yet when I played 07, I had a really hard time scoring like that even on really nice one-timers.
-Also, one of the biggest flaws in the 07 if you ask me was the ease of scoring with manual dekes even without a breakaway. Even on the hardest goalie difficulty, my roommate was generally able to score on easily 50-65% of the manual deke/fake-outs that he was able to get. Was this fixed?

Jylan - I definitely see where you're coming from. But Akanbe...
FES addresses that little "disappointment" in Episode Aegis. :) Persona FES Ending Spoilers Does it? I mean, sacrificing oneself by making a barrier to protect the earth from Nyx so he can't draw on negative emotions and never come back was a plus, but it still seems like a downer to me just because of the nature of how the game was. End FES spoilers, but adding to my spoiler post about P3: Also, at first it didn't truly hit me that he was dead. When I was watching the ending I was like "Hey asshole why are you going to sleep now? Go talk to your friends!". Then as the credits began to scroll I began to think about how sealing away Nyx used your full life bar and how he was "very tired" even 3 months after the event. I had a feeling he was dead/comatose/something. I remembered Shiguma's FES review and that pretty much confirmed it =\

ending spoilers. Ending kinda pissed me off. I don't know why. I've played other games where the main character dies (might as well be dead, coma/comatose or whatever) and it didn't feel so unsatisfying. Maybe it's because you spend so much of the game building up social links and relationships with people and in the end it doesn't matter anymore. I guess the optimist could say it does matter because you change people's lives through the S-link ranks, but it still felt unsatisfying. Anyone else feel that way? I don't really care if FES comes out or not anymore.

The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Wi-fi internet troubles

I'm having some wi-fi problems which I don't believe that are my fault (the landlord sucks and she knows jack shit. what's worse is that she tells me there's no number to call for help.).
A lot of times the internet is slow and pages often don't load at all and time out causing a very simple page to take a few minutes to actually load. Needless to say, this pretty much has killed any online gaming I like to do.
My question is, when I complained yesterday the landlord told me everything is fine as far as she knows (which it's not. My wi-fi at home worked perfectly fine before I came back to school). I'm using Net-gear to connect to the internet and I notice when I scan the available hotspots, I notice many from my apartment (ones with different channels and different mac addresses). However it won't let me connect to them even if I push "connect" on that one. It always connects me to the very first one (which isn't even the best signal) and I'm wondering if that's a software problem. Maybe it's just that specific channel/mac addresses that is pure shit.
Any ideas on how to connect to different channels? I tried using the windows software to connect but I didn't see any channels at all, just the main "X apartment" listed.
Thanks in advance!

Speaking of Sony's future...
Wasn't FFXIII and MGS4 (or whatever the next one is) supposed to come out on multi consoles? I'm not sure if that was a rumor or a fact.

Prepare for battlegrounds full of these guys within three months of the release of the expansion, especially after people get to see how much ass they kick in PTR. It may be wise for Blizzard to prevent Hero Class characters from entering PVP battlegrounds and raid groups until more of them are available, so as not to create an Alpha Class.
You mean Warlocks? Yes, I'm sure there will be tons of them for awhile, but like Jylan said, they won't be that special that they're going to obliterate everyone else. If they did that, they would just render more classes useless in PvE and PvP and that doesn't seem to be their goal. As for the battlegrounds being full of them, a blue actually commented on this with "it'll be like that on both sides".

you're probably right about the third party thing. I just hate leveling up a feral druid. I just want to hit 70 and go resto =p.
As for the tier 3 part, I don't recall what numbers he exactly used, but we all knew he was full of crap anyway. He might have been talking about how many bosses he downed, I'm not sure. He types like a 7 year old so half his sentences were incoherent.

Fucking A I now remember why I switched to horde. These last two nights leveling my night elf druid have been annoying as shit, mainly because my guild is fucking retarded (it seems to be a theme no matter what guild I join, since he's too low for any decent guild).
I never can let things be when I hear stupidity spewing from someone's mouth. What makes it worse is when you state facts or try to explain why it is a certain way and they still don't believe you.
Two nights ago someone was adamantly arguing with me trying to tell me that warriors are weak in arenas and outdoor pvp. Also that they can't do any damage in raids. I told him that most people are crying nerf in arenas about warriors and fury can do a nice amount of damage in raids, but no amount of explaining seemed to convince him.
Last night one mage was arguing in a rather childish manner that frost spec is the best raiding spec. Even after telling him the facts that he was wrong and someone else asking a mage friend from the best raiding guild on the server, he managed to say, "I HAVE A DRUID WITH 4/7 TIER 3 NAXX I KNO WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT"
This is a guild that's supposed to be an alt-leveling guild for a raiding guild. God almighty.
I have some spare cash at the moment so I'm considering getting my druid power leveled to like 68 so I can just switch to resto and start getting some gear to raid on him.

I thought about this for awhile and there aren't too many games out there that I put down and actually came back to later, but there is one noteworthy game that came to my mind after a few minutes of thinking.
Fire Emblem.
I don't remember why I originally bought it, perhaps because of the hype here, I can't remember. I do remember my first play through that I pretty much did all the things possible to really screw yourself over. I did dumbass things such as evolving my characters at level 10, using that over-leveled paladin to kill just about anything he could reach, and not picking up the optional characters in chapter 16 (I think I got that far). I can't really say I HATED it the first time around, but it was frustrating as hell because my characters were a lot weaker than they should have been.
I then read much later on how to correctly play Fire Emblem so I restarted my game and played it correctly. I ended up beating it this time around and loving every second of it.
WTB new Fire Emblem for the Nintendo DS!

Media / Single-Player RPGs / Persona 3 Strategy Guide
|
on: August 29, 2007, 03:20:45 PM

There is a full guide for Persona 3 on GameFAQs, written by Kouli, one of the most talented and prolific writers for JRPGs on the site. The thing is, the guide is written for the Japanese version of the game, so sometimes the names are translated by him differently, etc, as well as the fact that the trivia for in-game is different in the JP version. For the most part, though, it's entirely usable for the US version, as I used it when I got stuck with the pre-release copy.
I flipped through the Persona 3 guide, and it seemed nice enough, though. I had to comment on this just because I hate Kouli's FAQS. I realize some FAQ's have spoilers and that it sometimes cannot be avoided, but the first and last Kouli FAQ I read had a very unnecessary big spoiler that kinda pissed me off. Just a word of caution if you do use one of his FAQs. I don't know if that part was just absent minded and the only spot where he did it, but it's pretty much caused me to stay clear of his FAQs since.

(I agree about the other part, any nub can get awesome epics through arena at the moment) Interestingly enough my Kara group fell apart primarily because the arena epics, more easily and cheaply acquired, pretty much were on par to or better than anything in Kara (I mean depending on the class it's equivalent to or better than the tier 5 pieces...), so they didn't want to bother with it. Or something like that. So much for only rewarding the best pvpers. :P I mean, you could be the worst PVPers in the world and still end up getting arena gear at some point, much like the horribly abused BG honor system. That sucks that your group fell apart because of that. I thought Kara was a pretty fun instance. After you run it for awhile it gets annoying though. The season 2 arena gear seems to be pretty close to on par PvE wise with SSC/TK gear (depending on your class - holy priest pvp set is shit for PvE; minus maybe one piece) which I think is a little ridiculous because of it's ease of getting loot. I am VERY casual when it comes to PvP and I could get a new piece every 3 weeks. Really any nub with patience can get at least t5 caliber weapons in a month-ish, maybe slightly longer. What makes things worse is on our server both alliance and horde sell arena rating services for gold. I remember in season 1 that someone paid 2 of the most well-known pvpers on my server 2,000g each (i believe around there) for them to get his 3v3 team high enough so he could get the gladiator title and a swift armored netherdrake.

It seems like either they are catering to the hardcore raiders that are already at the Black Temple, or they are catering to the ones that will never raid at all. I disagree about the catering to hardcore raiders (I agree about the other part, any nub can get awesome epics through arena at the moment) They've been nerfing things left and right lately: -no SSC or TK key needed -as of next patch, many high-end bosses will be a hell of a lot easier due to removing the random factor of certain bosses (which I don't view as a bad thing. It just makes it more difficult). There was also a few different versions of Illidan, which I assume to make him easier. -SSC trash is going to be near a joke soon and if TK isn't included, it will soon follow. However, they are catering to them somewhat in that there is supposed to be one more 25 man dungeon before the next expansion pack hits that will supposedly give better loots than Illidan (thus most likely harder). Some think it will deal with the dragonflight, some think it will deal with the Sunwell. We'll see I guess. On a completely different note, I really hope they don't make Arthas out to be a little bitch like they did Illidan. He needs to be like, I don't know, the Doctor Doom of Warcraft or something; you might foil his shit, but you damn sure won't ever beat him. I agree. Granted, only 51 guilds in the world have killed him at the moment (only 21 US guilds) which isn't that much. I'd like to see some form of cockblock for Illidan that stops shit like what Nihilum did for Illidan (for those who don't know, when they first got to Illidan they played pretty much 24 hours straight to make sure they would down him before the server reset). I don't really think what they had for the original Nefarian was a good idea, but maybe 3-4 attempts per night instead. Probably won't happen though. -----As for the Deathknight, I'm just worried about balance issues in pvp and raids. We don't know what kind of things Blizzard has in plans for the classes talent trees, but at the moment they are looking like they could either: a.) Become the new rogues and not be used in raids or b.) Be given nice utility that it pushes other classes out (rogues, hunters - assuming they aren't given a new utility to make them more wanted). Ideally it'd be nice to see more classes have equal ability in raids so everyone is wanted equally. We'll see in the upcoming months.
