I bought Pokemon Pearl last night and I have this feeling I'm going to get hooked on it. Pokemon Red for the original Gameboy was the only Pokemon I've ever played.

I used to play that game.  I'm not sure if it's possible or not, but if you want hooked up with some level 1 starters I think I can trade a few to you.  I have a bunch of charmanders that sat in my bank for awhile.  Might be useful to you since in the normal game, there are only 2 fire pokes, one being one of the starters and the other one sucks ass.  </nerdy>

Disgaea - I'm still leveling up anyone who isn't Laharl. I'm on the last stage of episode 6, but my characters are too weak to beat that stage. Love this game, hate the grinding.

Oddly enough I didn't mind any grinding until i hit the extra optional chapters.  Thank god Disgaea 2 improved on the grinding aspect a lot (more stages to do it on) and made things easier in general.  I really hope Disgaea 3 improved it a little more.

Really?  I didn't know that, thanks.  Yeah, I'm paying for my own tux.  Between a full tank of gas to and from, a hotel room, the tux, and (maybe) lost wages, it was racking up the cost if I had to include a gift in that too.

Thanks.

So, it looks like I'm going to be in a wedding sometime this summer.

Man, I had no idea of all the hidden costs of being in someone's wedding party.  Honestly, I have a hard enough time as it is making ends meet to live without spending $300+ dollars on a wedding for someone I'm not even that great of friends with.

Shitty weather this weekend meant that I couldn't do much aside from making FES my bitch.  I've decided that Mitsuru, Akihiko and Aigis are gonna be my lackeys this time.  That's almost exactly who I used the first time, except I used Yukari in place of Akihiko.  It's a good change, because his AI hasn't done half the stupid shit that bitch used to pull on me. :P

I intended to try and max out the social links I ignored the first time around...but Jesus, that douchebag in the Student Council is annoying as hell. :P  I may come back around to it though, because I think you get Odin from maxing it out, and Odin is the patron saint of all things metal.

Unless they changed it, you get Odin from your sports pal by the classroom window.

No, that's Thor.  I got him the last time around from that douchebag.

Ah you're right.  Sorry.  I don't think I ever got Odin.  Must have mixed them up.

Edit:  Thor is a viking.  Thus Thor is more metal than Odin =P

2347  The Rest / General Discussions / IGN's GTA IV Review on: April 27, 2008, 11:17:40 AM
From what I've read and seen about this game, it's a GTA fan's wet dream.  I don't really have any doubts that this game, to a GTA series fan, is probably worth a 10.  From what I've read, the graphic rating seems too high, but oh well.  Life goes on.  I imagine most people would be picking it up no matter what anyway.  Regardless, once finals are over I plan to rent it and see for myself.

on a side note: Multiplayer sounds.. interesting.  Looks like griefers could have a lot of "fun" on some of those modes.
2348  The Rest / General Discussions / Thinks you hate/hated about your college campus. on: April 26, 2008, 01:18:25 PM
I'll second the teachers thing.  I had a lot of professors who were so dull and incomprehensible that listening in class was just a chore.

Quote from: "Dincrest"
The thing with university professors is this.  At many Research-One universities, they don't give a shit about a professor's ability to teach.  All they care about is how much s/he has published in professional journals.  That is why you see professors who are excellent researchers and brilliant minds, but are really insular, can't teach for squat and don't care a whit for their students.

Our school of business recently got "accredited" by demoting the old professors and only hiring new ones with doctorates.  It sounds good on paper, but 1 out of the 3 new ones suck at teaching. My beef with the whole thing is that they downgraded all 4 of the old ones regardless of their ability or knowledge.  One desperately needed to go because he was horrible and the one semester I had him, we got next to nothing accomplished (like, 5 chapters of material).  The two I cared about, I had for multiple semesters and were great professors, but fell short in the administrators eyes because they only had their masters degree.  But, they cared about their students, they taught the material well, they KNEW the material well (worked in the business for 15+ years), and were just overall great professors.  Most of us were sad to see them go.  That's my school for you.

Overall douchebags are still on the top of my list though.  My school has too many of them.

2350  The Rest / General Discussions / Top 7 Stereotypical Gamers We Hate on: April 24, 2008, 05:55:25 PM
I didn't say bad, I called it understandable but annoying. It seems like everytime a game is announced the topic always comes up and someone whines about it like one exclusive title is the end of the world.  Like I said, it's not too bad on Rpgfan but on some other sites it's merciless.

Needs more "My RPG series is better than your RPG series" for the RPG snob.

... Except I rarely ever see people do that, and when it does happen it's usually really mild compared to the fighting over hardware manufacturers.

Agreed.  Now a days, console fanboys are more annoying than most other types (to me at least).  The posts of "I hope it gets ported to x system" are somewhat understandable, but annoying.  At least it's rather minimum here compared to other boards.

All four of mine came in beautifully straight!

My top did.  I had braces when I was like 14 and they pulled out an adult tooth deep back (one that no one would see) to make more room for everything else.

At the time I was pissed, but looking at it now that's the sole reason I don't have to get my (top) wisdom teeth out.  Very much worth it.
2353  The Rest / General Discussions / How To Write, Direct Video Games? on: April 23, 2008, 03:24:57 PM

Seems like most video games are written as well as a novel for a 10 year old...so it shouldn't be hard to do...

Many people on this board blow this ridiculously out of proportion.  Whether it's true or not, it's like a board fad to claim this now.

edit:  after reading Prime Mover's post I realized I read daschrier's post wrong, but what i was getting at still stands

Yeah... It ends things properly... but the epilogue is damn harder than the rest of the game....

What?  I found most of the regular bosses and the final boss harder than anything in the epilogue.  Maybe I didn't fight every single boss battle (some are optional, right?) so that could be why I think that, but I do remember a couple of OP items that make things easier.

I finished Assassin's Creed, which is one of the most repetitive games I have ever played in my life. I loved it at the beginning, hated it at the end. I have no clue how the developers let that heppen to the game, did they not play it? Anywho, I am now 4 hours or so into Rondo of Swords. I like it so far, but it is definitely hard at spots (much like Fire Emblem).

I don't understand why people say this. AC had the deepest combat system I've ever seen in a free roaming game. The worlds were huge and it was up to the player to decide what missions they would undertake and what parts of the story they'd uncover.

People say it's repetitive, but it's one of the most constantly engaging games I've ever played. It's like the AC I went through is totally different to the one everyone else has played.

I honestly think that AC is a love it or hate it kind of game. There is no in-between to be found. I thought the combat system was anything BUT engaging. Waiting for a guard to attack you so you can counter is very boring, and this happens alot because you are constantly attacked by multiple guards making it impossible to melee attack without getting ripped apart.

I fully agree with you Blace, about the whole thing.

I'm curious how they will make the second and third game since this is a major complaint that i'm sure they will attempt to address.
