2386  The Rest / General Discussions / WiiWare Devs: Xbox Live Arcade is "full of shit" on: March 16, 2008, 04:16:02 PM
Ah, well, I'm not in too much of a position to judge that.  My friend downloaded the demo off XBL and I only saw it for a minute or two.  The original dreamcast art was pretty damn good so I'm not surprised that it's not better since it's just an xbl arcade game.

Even though I own a 360, I have never seen all the titles available on xbox live arcade.

I have, however, played a few like Lumines, Super Puzzle Fighter HD, and the remade Bomberman and those particular games are pretty fucking fun and redone well.  I can't really see xbox live's being any worse than Nintendo's.  They both seem to have their merits.

I haven't watched the old series in a couple years, but I don't recall anyone ever sticking their heads in the sand in the series on purpose.  The only time someone ever gets their head/body covered with sand is when a certain character is trying to kill somebody.

Still makes no sense to me =P

I watched 25 minutes of Superbad before I took it out of the PS3. Terrible movie. Apatow needs to learn spewing "shit" and "fuck" as many times as possible doesn't make a movie funny. The only two parts I laughed at is when Seth was pretending to do stuff to Jewel behind her back and when he was telling his friend about how he used to be obsessed with drawing penises.

Imo it's worth finishing.  I felt the first part (what you watched) was the slowest part of it all.  It gets better after that.

How is Ganondorf in this version?  He was my favorite one on Melee so I'm curious as to how he handles.

I'm with Eusis.  I'd much rather it be exclusive.  Let's see what the PS3 can "do". Of course that means purchasing a ps3 (for me at least) but I'll end up buying one eventually anyway.

In fact, the smartest business move I can imagine is that Sony does a price drop of the PS3 ($350 for their premium, highest-HD-sized model) in conjunction with the release of FF13. That will effectively kill the 360 in Japan, and bolster Sony support in North America. Don't think it won't happen. :)

Didn't Sony recently shrink the blu-ray laser?  They said it's supposed to cut production costs a good bit which is supposed to lead to a price cut sometime this year (perhaps Christmas).  Of course, that's only if this is all true.

But I'm convinced FFXIII and Vs.XIII will stay PS3 exclusive.

I am as well.  Whatever happened to (1), (2) ,(3), and  (4) - though I thought this one was busted since the reporting of the White Engine being able to be used on mutliple consoles.. but I guess it could be used for Infinite Undiscovery but I really have no clue

(edit: (5) kinda biased.. if Chris keeps his famitsu around he could probably confirm it since the scan is too small

Whether any of these links are true or not, the skeptic in me thinks Sony wouldn't mind dishing out some major bucks to keep FF13 exclusive.

Been watching Kekkaishi since it has semi-decent ratings.  I haven't watched much so far but it looks like it's going to be an Inu-yasha demon of the month type clone.  Still i'm pretty interested in watching it.

Might also try to watch Teppa Leppa Tengen Lengen or something eventually as well.

All good points.  I don't mind random battles (I would rather see the enemies on screen like Lunar/recent Tales/FF12 though) without anyway to control it  though, especially since LO's could be anywhere from walking 6 steps and getting into another battle to walking around for a full minute and still not getting into a battle.

One small detail I'm enjoying about LO though is the weapons (so far) all have different models.  This is a small detail that I appreciate but seems to be absent in a few RPGs I've played in the last few years.

As for your DDS problem, do you have the skill on the bottom of the skill-tree-thing that gives xp to party members even if they aren't active in battle?  It's a worthwhile thing to get for everyone.  It's at the very bottom where there are only two skills.  The right one is better but needs to be unlocked by the left one, i think.

Yeah, that is one of the most useful mantras in the game apart from the dekaja/kunda one and samarecarm, not to mention mana walk and megidolaon....

DDS2 gives you the EXP mantra near the start, and its the better one, too.

I fully agree.  Mana walk is very nice for your healer (not as necessary on anyone else if you ask me).  Those skills definitely are useful since the final dungeon is long and the boss (or bosses) will kick your ass if you aren't ready.  I didn't have megidolaon but i'd say having a few of your ma-dyne spells would be handy... if not completely necessary.

Played DDS, FFX, and FFXII today.

As for FFX12, I used fran too for my my mage.  I don't know how far you are in the game but stat-wise
Code:
ashe
was the best mage in the game by far.  With each having all the stat upgrades in the license trees, the same equipment, and same levels
Code:
ashe
beats her by 3-4 magic points still which is pretty significant.  It doesn't really matter since the game isn't that hard (sans some of the hunts in the game) but I thought i'd tell you so you don't end up wishing you used someone else like I did.

At first I agreed with everluck with the subjective/objective part, but then after reading parn's statement about it, I follow his logic.

With Lost Odyssey, while I don't dislike the game, I find myself just playing it in sessions on and off, as if it were just keeping me occupied as I wait for the next game

Again, I feel the same.  I like LO, but something allows me to only play so much of it before I'm bored.  It's not like Persona 3 (or even FF12) where I could play all day and still want to play more.

Quite frankly, JRPGs tend to be full of terrible writing when it comes to anything dramatic

This seems to be a common complaint by a lot of people on this board.  It makes me wonder sometimes why people even play jrpgs in the first place (never found gameplay to be that engrossing except for persona 3's).  Some of LO's dialogue is indeed odd, but so far not enough to really stick out as a major "WTF" for me yet.
2397  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Persona 3 on: March 08, 2008, 08:09:31 PM
from my understanding of it, you just select it on the main menu as a different game.  The only things that carry over are (from the official FAQ):

-Your Academics, Charm, and Courage rankings
-Your discovered Fusion Spells list
-Any key items you possess that unlock Persona fusions
-Your Persona compendium (However, the Personas in your compendium will be reset to their base level, stats, and skills)

My only thing with the review is that I don't really see how Jansen's voice ruins the delivery (seems to be more of a personal preference than anything).  I'm somewhere in disc 2 and so far he's done a pretty good job with the lines and the character's personality (and this is coming from me, who usually doesn't like english dubs).

Other than the price (a debatable negative imo. the 360 wifi adapter is expensive as shit which is the only way I'm going to be getting a console online anytime soon) and the lack of exclusive, wanted titles atm, the PS3 is a good machine =P.  My friend from my old uni won a 80gig PS3 at his school raffle.  I'm pretty jealous... even though there's only one game on the PS3 that I'd want at the moment.

Anyways, I beat Terranigma a little while ago.  Pretty good game - would have loved to play it growing up during the snes era.  A lot of people over at gamefaqs said they teared up at the ending, but I didn't think it was all that sad.

Well, I spent the few amounts of my discretionary income left on this game and I can't say I'm unhappy with the choice.  Good visuals (pity I'm playing it on a CRT still), fairly interesting story/writing, etc etc you know the rest.

It definitely feels like a Final Fantasy-esque game like someone mentioned earlier.  On the other forums I visited, I'm surprised I haven't seen that much complaining about this being on the 360 compared to other games like Tales of Vesperia.

Not sure how I like the whole
Code:
immortal angle
, but I'm going to wait and see how it plays out.
