Ah, Azrael brought up a good point about community colleges (btw:  Didn't you used to go to PSU? I think I remember you).

Indeed your GPA will be a lot better when you finish community college compared to a regular uni.  However, if you decide to transfer to a university later, you often will lose your GPA (at least here in the states, that seems to be the norm).  The problem?  All those easier classes that you could have used to pad your GPA are gone and your GPA will be completely based off your harder last two years of classes (assuming you would transfer after 2 years.. which is the popular thing to do at my uni for whatever reason).

Just another thing to keep in mind.  Your GPA may or may not be important to you, but many specific departments require a minimum GPA and since you probably would not have the GPA padding, you will have to work harder to maintain full-time status with the department.  I know a few people who had to wait to enter the education department their 3rd year because their GPA wasn't high enough.

Well, put that way I can't really argue with that.  I have a save somewhere around mid first disk.  I'll have to pop it in and check it out.  I often don't notice something unless it's pointed out to me (sans SO2.. but that's another topic).

I agree whole heartedly about the Lunar writing.  One of the few RPGs that I can recall off the top of my head that made me laugh often.

I guess if money is no option or the OP already has both titles, perhaps I'd say Lunar after all.

Just finished The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.  I'm not much into anime anymore but I figured I would watch it and see why so many liked it.  It was a pretty strange anime, but I liked it a lot overall.  The ending left a bit more to be desired but I had a feeling it was going to be like that around the final episodes.

I do admit though, it's been a long time since I played through Xenogears at any length (realistically around 7 years)

Read the script on Gamefaqs, namely the later portions of the game. The writing quality is really bad, albit serviceable.

But was it any worse than other games of the time?  I really don't have the time to look through a disc worth of game script.

Xenogears is one of those games with a killer story but zero realistic character interaction or realistic character development. It's got pretty decent locales and some huge plot twists that you won't see coming. But if you like decent writing or interesting design, I'd stay the hell away from it, because it will frusterate you to no end.

Zero realistic character interaction / development?  Bad writing?  How so, because I completely disagree.  If you're going to compare it to something like FFXII then I guess so, but iirc it wasn't written any worse than any other rpg at the time minus the Lunar games.  But those were some of the best if you ask me.

I do admit though, it's been a long time since I played through Xenogears at any length (realistically around 7 years)

At the time, I really enjoyed all the various intricacies of the plotline.  I don't really remember if it reeked with poor grammatical structure or not

Edit:  I'm just going to throw this in the first post instead of the later one, but I'm kind of with Losfer, except with Xenogears.  When I was young, Xenogears was my favorite game no doubt.  Nostalgia is powerful indeed.  I used to occasionally wonder if I could erase my knowledge of Xenogears, if I would still feel that way if I played it today.

Well, my friend has a degree similar to what you want.  His first job after school was extremely shitty (I can't even remember what it was exactly) but now he's at an almost equal shitty job as a Verizon Customer Complaint/Support Center.  Of course, his situation is somewhat his fault and possibly would not happen to you, but it's something to think about.

I agree completely with V-Dawg: staying in highschool to think things over longer / get better grades is definitely not the answer.  It happens sometimes that you can't get into the school of your choice, but would staying an extra year really help your case?

Further agreeing with V-Dawg, he's right.  A lot of people in college/universities have no idea what they are doing.  At most American colleges (and I assume Canadian colleges are similar) you have to take a fuckton of Liberal Arts and Elective classes.  This will give you time to think as well as let you take some classes that you'd be interested in.  If you change your mind, no big deal.  At a lot of colleges in America, even if you change your major, those major classes can be dumped into another category that will help you graduate anyway.  It's a win-win if it happens, but unfortunately it doesn't always work out like this.

As for community colleges, I agree they are cheaper, but sometimes credits don't transfer to major universities.  Also, from what I read, they are a good decision only if you know what you want to do.  There's actually a really good thread about community colleges over at SA's forums and most people agreed that it was a waste of time if you didn't know what you wanted to do.  I'll try to find the thread, but at the moment the search feature is disabled and since I'm not registered, I don't even know if i'll be able to search for it when it's up.  It had a lot of good information though from people who have gone that path.  If I can find the thread I'll post it.

Looks really interesting, but I wonder how the multiplayer co-op works?  Does it work with Wi-fi? Or does it only work with everyone in the room with each having a cartridge (i'm guessing a one cartridge deal won't work).

Either way, It looks like a worthwhile purchase.  Doesn't seem like a dungeon crawler and hopefully not a button masher.
2438  Media / Single-Player RPGs / SMT Persona 3 boring ? on: February 16, 2008, 01:41:32 PM
Story and such does pick up, but gameplay doesn't change all that much other than for new persona.

If you find the life sim part boring or not fun, you probably won't like the game overall since it's always a big chunk of the game.

I'm actually gay, and I always wonder if video game forums are as homophobic as they seem to be.

However, I've seen "faggot" very little on internet forums

You must have never browsed the official world of warcraft forums (which is a good thing).  I'd say "faggot" is used as much as the word "the" =P

... I should try to learn japanese again =S

You should.  I took it in a university and they were by far the most fun classes I've ever taken.  I even had a friend who lived in town with his GF who was in college that took Japanese and nothing else.

On topic, Tales of Destiny was released for the first playstation.  Was it that different on the PSP?

edit:  The PS2 remake is purrty.

I'm in my last semester of university, and I'm absolutely shitting myself about leaving. I hate the idea of what my life will be like after uni.

@_@ How many years do you have to attend? I could've sworn we both started college the same year, and I'm still on my Junior (third) year.

Most BA degrees here are 3 year courses, with some exceptions. How long are they in the US?

That's pretty lucky.  I'm guessing you don't have to "broaden your knowledge" with as many asinine courses that you'll never remember once the semester is over as we do.

I recall a lot of people on this board shitting their pants over Riviera: The Promised Land for GBA.  Might want to try that as well.

In my gaming news, I finally finished downloading Team Fortress 2 for PC and it's fucking amazing.  I've put in about 8 hours between last night and this morning.  It's great.  Not sure if I dig the cartoony looks or not, but the gameplay keeps me coming back more and more.
