2476  Media / Single-Player RPGs / new FFXIII trailer on: December 26, 2007, 07:58:14 PM

what about the FFXIII versus trailer?

looks great imo.  The whole friendship angle is something I'm really interested in seeing.  Now we just need details about the battle/action system.

FF13 also sounds decent, but the videos so far haven't interested me that much.  I'm still holding out that it'll be a good title though.  I'm not as picky about certain things as I used to be (past few years I've been more of an "enjoy it for what it is" type) and am hoping it's an enjoyable title.

My parents bought me an Xbox 360.  I was annoyed to find out that it doesn't have wireless capability out of the box.  I was pissed to see that the necessary adapter costs a fucking arm and a leg.  Microsoft and XBox Live can both lick my taint.

At least Mass Effect is fun. :P

Do you mean wireless internet or wireless controllers?

I'm considering buying one with some of the money I got from relatives.

From my family I got a 20" iMac.  This was quite an unexpected, but needed surprise (and also doubles as my uni graduation gift too).  I was a bit uneasy about it because of all the bad press apple is getting about their shitty screens, but mine is 100% perfect, so i'm pretty happy.
2478  The Rest / General Discussions / "Clearing" your college transcript? on: December 26, 2007, 07:45:38 PM
Is it at the same university?  If so, it might be as simple as retaking the courses and getting better grades.  While your old grades would still be on your transcript, they wouldn't affect your GPA.  I don't know if this is the exact answer you're looking for, sorry.  Tooker also hit the nail right on the head too.

It's disappointing to see Persona 3 do so poorly in gamespot's polls (http://www.gamespot.com/best-of/genreawards/index.html?page=10
and http://www.gamespot.com/best-of/specialachievement/index.html?page=5, but i kind of expected that.

I agree with the lot of you, P3 for me.

Man, time flies doesn't it?  I swear, I can barely remember when I was the board n00b instead of the board tyrant. :P

Tyrant?

I would have called Sumire Kanzaki a tyrant...among other things.  Now she was a tyrant.  Then again, I was pretty young back then and fairly new to boards.  While I wasn't a poster back then, I do remember the flames.  Perhaps if I was older I would have appreciated them more.

I don't know how long I've been here.  I wasn't here during the Lunar boards, but I remember coming around Rpgfan's old threaded style boards that rpgfan's (semi) sister site animedream had as their forums for so long.

Better late than never!

I'd definitely hit that.

Anyway, if you dug Rogue Galaxy you should definitely check out Dark Cloud 2.

I'm on Nyquil, so that's all you're getting from me. :)

can you elaborate on this a little? i'm curious because i really enjoyed rouge galaxy but gave up on dark cloud 1 and the secord world. is dark cloud 2 a lot better than the first one?

I've never played the first one, but the overwhelming -  perhaps even unanimous - consensus is that DC2 is a drastic improvement over DC1.

Yeah, I'd definitely say DC2 was an improvement over DC1.  It's been a long time since I played Dark Cloud 2... but I do remember having fun with the battle system a lot.  Powering up weapons was simpler this time around.  Also you don't have so many characters this time and the ones you do have, are useful.

Dark Cloud 2 is on Amazon for $20.00.  If you have the extra cash and spare time, I believe it's well worth the purchase.

But no one plays mmos for the gameplay, right? It's usually the community that keeps people there.

WoW has the absolute worst community on the internet.

I, and many others, play(ed) it for the gameplay/content.  Yeah, there was a small group of people I met that I loved to play with, but they were only part of the reason I played.

edit:  small group =/= community.  In my case and many others, everyone I play with is not familiar with each other.  I'm not talking about a guild because you can be a in a decent guild and still have players who are half fucking worthless.

Nah, the whole leveling nerf was percentage base.  Shouldn't be drastically different.

49-50, rested, should take about an hour.. maybe a little more.  that number is coming from a hunter friend.

And tanaris quests are really good.  don't pass them up.  There's a bunch that you can do at the same time, so it really makes sense to do them (and honestly, i've passed 3-4 toons through Tanaris on a PvP server.. I never had a real problem there.  The only place that I sometimes ran into problems was the pirate cove)

Breath of Fire III  (replayed it from ages ago.. fun game!)
Persona 3
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Tales of Abyss
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy XII
Suikoden 5
.Hack//G.U. Vol. 1: Rebirth
.Hack//G.U. Vol. 2: Reminiscence
.Hack//G.U. Vol. 3: Redemption
Pokemon: Diamond

Looking back at it.. this has been quite a productive year for me.  I don't know what it was about this year, but I seemed to have finished a lot of RPG's.  I don't think I'm missing any.. might be able to add another one though before Christmas break is over (hopefully).

it seems to me that not being able to read text well on an sdtv is the standard.

my roommate had the same problem on his xbox360.  The 360 menus, blades, and whatnot were fine, but in game texts on many games were difficult to read.

it's pretty much the reason why i haven't upgraded to a next gen system yet.

how long is the game? i wanna play it. my ps2 dont working.

i love secret of mana but never finish it....  the game is long no matter who i chose ? i wil play the game more than once im certain in that. but i wanna know for the first time.

each quest is basically the same? i hope it not

-The game is about 23-25 hours last I can remember.

-Each quest is about the same, but there are differences.  Each one starts out differently and ends up following the same path at about the 1 hour mark.  After that, iirc it's about the same, with differences here and there (may go to different places, etc.).  Once again, I can't fully comment on this because it's been quite some time since I finished it.

What I am positive about is that there are 3 pairs of characters.  Each pair's story plays almost the same (pretty sure, might be a little different due to different homelands, but not sure!), but has different final bosses and semi-final bosses.

The pairs are:

-Duran and Angela
-Riesz and Hawkeye
-Kevin and Carlie

Supposedly each pair has a different difficulty level, but you'd have to look up more info to find that out.

Sorry for the vagueness, but it's all I can remember and at the moment I can't look things up to validate what is correct.

I don't know much about FFXI loot, but sound pretty godly.  Nice looks to boot.

It's nice for me to see things like "omedeto--" when someone loses loot to someone else.  i rarely, if ever, see that in wow.
2488  Media / Single-Player RPGs / about tales of abyss storyline (spoiler!) on: November 24, 2007, 01:51:27 PM
Definitely worth picking up the game still mate.  Like someone else said, I personally did see that particular spoiler coming earlier through Ashe's words to Luke.

If you're like me, and hurting for a new RPG badly, I 100% still recommend picking up the title.  It's a long ass game, but it's worth it in the end.  Some of the major scenes of the game are just acted out very well and really got me into the moment.

This week has been fun.  Since we downed Kael'thas, guild attendance (well, we only have so many attuned) has been great and overall morale got a huge boost.

We went into hyjal and killed Rage Winterchill and then tried Anatheron.  We only was able to get one attempt on him before a healer had to go.  At that point we were already down one since they had to work that night, so we called it and went to BT instead to farm for epic gems.  We checked out the instance and it's pretty great.  The zone-in screen has an awesome picture of Illidan and the music is really sweet.  A lot of the models in the zone are pretty cool as well.  We fought a couple trash mob packs and ended up getting 2 epic gems.

Hopefully tonight people will show up and we'll kill Anatheron and maybe the next boss.

We have have like three attempts on Kael. Amazingly, we have zero deaths on phase 1, which is great, but the weapons usually get like 3-4 people by the time the advisors spawn. Pratice makes perfect.

What is really great about Kael is that I never though I would actually get to see him. Hopefully my dream of killing Illidan before WotLK will become reality.I have read many different forum posts all saying that Kael is pretty hard and when he dies, you can do like half of Mount Hyjal and BT pretty fast, as all those bosses are "easier" than Kael. Time will tell.

It's true.  Kael'thas is the last real cockblock.

Good luck with Kael.

edit:  Or more or less, if you can do kael, you can down the other bosses.  they are hard and require coordination (archimonde comes to mind), but compared to what's needed for kael, it's not as much.

EDIT:

FINALLY killed Kael'thas.  I don't know if we were using a bad strat or what (but i doubt that, since at about 10-15 of our guild is transfers from a bt guild that broke up).  But it feels good to finally down him.  We normally end our raids at 1am EST but we had two great attempts right around 12:45 with a perfect raid make-up, everyone stuck around even though some had things they had to do in real life.  Finally after reclearing trash with our new-found resolve, we killed him at like 1:45.  Couldn't be happier.
