Yeah, I just stopped getting EGM.  I don't see a point in getting it anymore.  I generally don't agree with the RPG reviews (they aren't really RPG fans so their opinion isn't that credible to me) and finding out information on games is 100x quicker on the internet.

Growing up I really liked Nintendo Power. I remember getting psyched up for some of the games they covered.  Ah... childhood nostalgia.

Wow.  I had no clue they made a remake of the psx game for ps2.

You are looking for the first game, not the sequel, correct?

I know you wanted it ASAP, but playasia had a few different ones in stock.  I don't know which one you want nor do I know the differences between the many copies they have listed.

Tales of Destiny

Tales of Destiny 2.  I saw the LE copy too.  I don't know if it's in stock.

To put it in a non spoilerish way, you won't get to mess around with gambits until you have 3 people total in your party.

As for positioning, so far it hasn't seemed to make any difference to me.  The only time I've noticed it having any matter is some spells seem to have a LOS (line of sight - think some of grandia's spells) where you can minimize the damage by having it only hit one person in the line instead of your whole party.

I really don't miss playing alliance at all =P

I'm considering playing BC more now.  I know I'll end up ignoring my other console games if I do though.  I also need to make sure I don't play it too much this semester because I have a busy semester.

I think also in March I may look for a new server.  Hopefully by when summer starts there will be more guilds around doing the end game content.  The 10 and 25 man content has me intrigued.

remember trying this game back in the day and thinking to myself. wow shining force 2 has better graphics than this. one could argue ps4 does as well. graphics aside the intro was pretty impressive for its time. i think i stopped playing after i got out of the cave where the moogles help you because the graphics were to crappy to keep me interested. i mean didnt this game come out after crono trigger yet they stuck with those pixelated mess of sprites

Crappy graphics?  It's a snes title.  Didn't think it was that bad really.

I didn't realize people cared enough back then to stop playing a game because one game's sprites are worse than someone else's.  I know I didn't give a damn.

I made a new character a few chapters into the game. Of course he's useless as is, so I'm trying to level him up. What is the best way to go about that? Should I have him soloing low levels or something?

The only problem with the leveling technique sketch described is that depending who created the character, their % chance for a team attack can vary.  Also it can leave them open for the next round of enemy attacks.

I agree with Alisha though.  Team attacks are very nice.  I leveled up my top tier priest from 1 to 2000 in 10 minutes.

Depending on the class you're using and if you aren't at any particularly good power leveling place, just swapping out the best armor you currently have and giving it to that character goes a long way.  A level 1 in good armor will be untouched by many levels higher than himself in the beginning until he levels up more to the armors level.  If they are dying, try equipping them with your best muscle.  That also goes a long way in keeping them alive.

Suffice it to say that the mages ended up tanking half the time, which was in no way the fault of the warrior.

I don't know why more mages don't spec into burning soul or frost channeling.  Espicially mages like in your group.

I rarely pulled aggro on my mage.  Then again, burning soul has been nerfed since then from 30% threat reduction to 10% reduction.  I don't know what it's like now.  If I start my mage back up he'll be frost anyway since pure fire is shit in BC.

I do know that Blizzard is including red gear (step ABOVE legendary) with the expansion.

At this point, artifacts are unlikely

I keep up to date on beta news and discussion and I haven't really seen any real information of them yet.  I just don't see it happening yet.  Maybe not even ever.

There has been some items floating around the web from people who got information from data mining.  Most of them are fake or GM weapons.  There really isn't a way to know what the stats or status (legendary, epic, etc) of the item is until it's introduced.  That's why there may have had pictures of Tier 4, 5, new epics, Ashbringer, etc without knowing the actual stats of the item.

FFXII question for those of you who played it all:

Can you find dual wielding on the license board somewhere?  Some of the weapons like daggers and ninja swords (haven't seen any yet) seem like they are good candidates for that.

Right now I'm playing FF12, FF3, and Zelda: TP.  Loving them all.  FF3 is having it's annoying moments, but it's overall pretty cool.  My only job complaint is that it seems like anyone can dual wield.  I don't see a point in equipping a shield for +3 defense (at the moment) when I can equip a weapon for a lot more.  I wish they restricted it so that only certain classes could do it.  Oh well, minor complaint.

That's what I thought as well.

Both of them had china farmer names (unguilded as well) and didn't understand English.  Also it was mid afternoon so they were the only two in there.
2606  The Rest / General Discussions / Happy New Year, RPGFan on: January 01, 2007, 10:33:37 PM
Indeed. and a happy new years to all of you.

Being in my last year of uni and rarely coming home, I've lost contact with most of my friends from home (or just don't talk to them because I don't want to).  So, I hung out with my one good friend that I still do hang out with when we are both home.  We drove around for a little while, then ended up going back to his house to watch a movie with his family and enjoy a good drink.  After midnight we watched a few episodes of Metalocalypse.  God that show is strange.

Oh? Some geo-panel puzzles can be quite challenging, especially with stats like "Enemy Boost 50%" or "Clone" (and one map even had both).

"Generally," the maps are fairly straightforward.
I do agree with you though, in that the geo-panels did make certain moments in the game both challenging and frustrating. But I found that most geo-panel dilemas could be solved fairly easily by simply throwing a mage once or twice in the direction of the troublesome geo-symbol, then letting their long range attacks take care of the problem.

Well, I think the way they used the geo-panels was to try and make the game more difficult instead of just upping the enemies levels. At the same time, it makes you think a little bit more than you had to in Disgaea 1.

I beat the game awhile ago.  I did most everything.  I got all the classes, all the cameo characters, got into the LoC world (pain in the ass), and got some of the ultimate weapons.  That being said, it's a pretty good game.  It's improved in almost every aspect except the characters and humor (but that's just my opinion.  I really enjoyed D1's characters.)

I agree with Alisha, the character sprites definitely do look better.  I enjoyed many of the redrawn class sprites (samurai and ninja look nice.  Majins remind me of Goku - especially the last tier of Majins. ).

The new monster classes were very nice.  I liked how every single class had an individual merit to them that made them unique (ex: wood golem heals itself every turn, baciels never miss, etc).  With this addition for the monster classes, I didn't see the need to use the story characters that much except for the cameo ones.
2608  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Blizzard bans 100,000+ for cheating/gold farming on: January 01, 2007, 09:51:04 PM
I'm glad for expensive money sinks like mounts.  Mounts/epic mounts/flying mounts I imagine remove a ton of gold from the game.

I believe Blizzard is doing a pretty decent job with this.  Last time I tried looking, I couldn't find any exploiters/farmers in Scholo, Strath, DM, and oddly ZG (I saw two single mages go in there and were in there for awhile.  No idea why.  I can't imagine two shitty geared mages could even kill one trash mob without running out of mana even if they are exploiting).

Also, they seem to be cracking down on the more obvious places for RMT.  You used to be able to search ebay and find lots of accounts for sale as well as lots of gold listed.  Now, it's harder to find accounts to buy (price seems to have fallen big time) and blizzard is actively shutting down auctions.  Gold prices have also seemed to gone up 75%-100%.

Blizzard is also going as far as trying to sue the creator of wow-glider (doubt they will win, but I'm not sure).  Wow-glider is a program that the bots use that pretty much automate everything.  I checked out their page the other day and had a decent laugh.  I enjoyed the part of their faq where they say something along the lines of "if we actually wanted to, we could create a bot that would destroy any human player in 1v1 pvp".  I think for the most part that's crap.

on a side note, anyone see the gold farming documentary on mtv?  i believe the guy who made it has a site: www.chinesegoldfarmers.com

WoW, Demonology warlocks just got smacked with a big nerf bat.

Armor and DPS on the felguard got reduced by a lot.

Soul link is now 20% instead of 30%.

Changes for the better imo.  Their tears are funny however.

Where did you get this information?

I also forgot to list Curse of Weakness DPS reduction got reduced by a lot too.  The highest ranking spell was ridiculous.  It can also no longer be amplified by Amplify Curse.  Instead, Curse of Doom can now be amplified.

Soul link nerf is already implemented in the beta.  Dmg was increaded to +5% for Soul Link (+2% I think from before).

With that said, I didn't spot any bitching about this on the official forums, so it probably isn't so.

Check the beta forums.
