2686  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Kel'Thuzad vanishes. on: September 05, 2006, 10:39:44 PM
I'm not suprised at all given that it's blizzard -- and it's bullshit.  It took them a couple days to figure this out?  That's retarded.

Kinda leveled the playing field for the four-five guilds who already downed Sapphiron.  Some got one or two chances in I believe, but that's it.

Kinda funny though that they mentioned EJ and overrated though.  Neither are really in contention for the Kel'thuzad race since neither have downed the four horsement yet.

I'm still playing WoW. I see you guys are also, do you think we'll still be here in 5 years time bitching? bah... Me wants to try out Warhammer =)

From the way people have been talking (on the WoW fora), it seems like Wildhammer could be the game that makes people stop playing WoW and go on to different games.

Me?  Don't know much about it.  But when PSO comes out there's a good chance I will cancel WoW.  We'll see.

But with cross-server BG's being implemented, population hardly matters now.

On a PvP server it still matters some.  I don't like running into members of the opposite faction at every questing point, so I enjoy a medium pop server.

I used to think DDS had high random encounters.  Then I played a lot of Suikoden 5 and DDS felt like a walk in the park.

Lately one thing has been bugging me:

Reappearing bosses.  What I mean is people you defeat but they show up again later.  For God's sake kill him.  If there's a reason it doesn't happen, I can let that slide.
2690  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Draenei/blood elf customizations movie on: August 29, 2006, 10:31:16 AM
I am really suprised.  Both models look nice.  Looking at previous screenshots, which don't seem to do justice apparently, the blood elves don't look all that great.  Looking at the character model, they seem interesting.  Fuck blizzard for making me actually want to play the xpack.

I'm also really interested in the BE/Draenai cities... espicially the draenai.  I saw a site the other day that had posted them and both the cities look really sweet.

I know some people here know Japanese really well.  I'm just kind of curious as to what this says on the right side:

2692  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Burning Crusade talents revealed? on: August 28, 2006, 09:13:03 AM
i believe www.wowwalkthrough.com  has the warrior ones as well.  not the fake ones from awhile back, the "new ones".
2693  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Annual Expansion Releases? on: August 25, 2006, 03:30:58 PM
This being my first MMO and not really know what SoE has done with EQ, it seems fast.

But, lately I've been reading the forums and I saw a couple posts with all the stuff they'd like to do in the future.  Things like the emerald dream, northrend, grim batol, alexestra(dragon?), death wing, arthas, illidan, etc are things the developers I believe said they'd like to do at some point.  I know what none of these things are, but they sounded interesting.

If they want to do them then I guess they would have to speed up.
2694  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Cross-Realm PvP on: August 25, 2006, 03:24:08 PM
I had a horde warlock in 8 for awhile, but then I realized my server completely sucks ass so I ditched it.

Now my two characters I play are both in battle ground 6.  I'd love to PuG it up and get in a game vs Death and Taxes only to get steamrolled in 3 minutes.

Actually, so far, cross-realm PVP is garbage on my server. Not only are the que's for BG -longer- then previously, the server lags horribly now during primetime.

Everything but AV pops up instantly on my warriors server (burning blade.. didn't check what group).  It sucks because that's the one I want to play most and the queue is much longer.  Haven't tried it yet in my regular home, 6.  But I hear the queues are at least faster for my realm.

And yeah lag sucks.  So do the bugs, but I think they've been fixed.  We did an UBRS run only to have the gate not open after Rend.  Oh well.

The biggest problem with multiple raid groups is going to be lockout.  If the raid ID lockout system is remotely similar to the one in place now, you might as well just form two separate guilds and create a custom channel to chat between them.  While a few guilds do it successfully now, the logistics just aren't pretty.  You'll end up needing very hardcore attendance caps to keep two groups running, or end up recruiting so many 'stand-bys' that bad vibes are bound to happen.  Plus, if you're in a guild where you actually like almost all 40 regular raiders, if you try to mix up the raid groups every week to keep everyone in contact with each other, it'll be a lot of learning every encounter twice.

Good points.  I forgot about the lock-out system.  That would indeed stop this from happening unless the guild was incredibly organized... but at that point you almost might as well create two guilds and a custom chat channel, like you said.

IMO, this shit should have been done long time ago.  I can see why some people are bitching now, but I wonder how big of a deal this would of been (if any) if this was implented at the game's launch.
2696  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW - Home to over 50% of all MMORPG playing dorks like us on: August 15, 2006, 01:36:19 PM
I don't doubt it.  It has mass appeal.  Hardcore gamers can appriciate it (but they bitch the loudest of them all) and so can casual fans.

I know people who don't play video games, but play WoW.  IMO, I don't think many other MMO's can say that.  It's got it's share of problems, but the appeal seems to be wide.
2697  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Disgaea. on: August 15, 2006, 01:34:17 PM
I loved it.  I put more time into that game than any other console game (about 185 hours iirc).  The item world does suck, but it's not too hard to level up to 2500 using the one extra dungeon map.

Anyways, yeah it's my favorite SRPG.  I played it way too much that I could never play it again, but I'm really interested in Disgaea 2.  I just hope it doesn't feel too much of the same that I'm left feeling like I don't want to play it (because I put so many hours into Disgaea 1).

I think it's worth a pickup, at least.  The humor is wacky, but I thought the gameplay was pretty fun.

The raid changes are shit. Watch the drama erupt. I guarantee you I'm not getting a spot in these new cut-down raid groups of 25 due to my timezone alone. I like the 40-man dynamic as it is argh

People really do overestimate how 'hardcore' endgame WoW is. I raid once on saturday and once every 2nd wednesday and that's it, and I'm geared to the moon. There are those, yeah, who play every single night. They tend to break up and splinter and form into a 'different' guild every month :P

I don't know about how big your guild is, but why not recruit more and go at it in two groups?  It seems daunting and some people would be offended by being put on the "B team", but it's still raiding.

I know in many of the guilds I've been in/been asked to join, it seems like raiding once or twice a week to get loot is impossible.  Some guilds it may work for and i'm glad that your guild does (having a life + still being able to raid is win/win).  But most of the ones I've seen I just don't see how that works.  Most want a decent raid attendance (if they're any good at least) and even if they don't, it's all about DKP.  I don't know how you can get more than one or two pieces per month if you're only raiding once or twice a week.  It just seems like most would have more DKP than you.  I suppose if you have a very low turnover rate in the guild, that would work in your favor.  I dunno.  just my 2 cents.

And as far as the "x class will be ruined", I can see why some people may think that.  Some people may take even less of a class, but overall there should be more groups out there so I don't know if i agree with that.

Having not been in any major end game raids I could be totally off base, but...those guilds that get 40mans going pretty regularly.....wouldnt they be able to snag 10 more guys (which....c'mon is NOT that hard) and run two raids at the same time? Why waste so much time in a 40man for ONE specific item when two particular items can be yielded from two instance runs?

Yeah they could.  Most of the major guilds I've seen talk about this are just afraid that something like "Raid B doesn't have enough tanks and raid A doesn't have enough healers, so take healers from raid A."  Or something along those lines.  They're just afraid raid B will continuely get the shaft if there aren't enough people on to form a proper raid.
2699  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Big changes coming to WoW with Burning Crusade on: August 12, 2006, 12:06:26 PM
I like the pvp idea, since most people hate the pvp grind and end up burning themselves out.

Not only that, but so many people don't do it legit whether they CP farm, get China farmers to do it, or have multiple people play their account (friends).  Maybe this will help allieviate it some... but probably not.

the other stuff sounds cool as well.

as for the raid cap.. i don't know.  i haven't raided extensively enough to comment.  The consensus seems mixed, but since they are raising the debuff limit (to 40) that might help the pidgeon-holing of some classes (shadow priests become slightly more viable, warlocks can probably DoT to their hearts content, etc).

I endorse these posts.

DDS and DDS2 are great.   Those would be what I'd recommend as well.
