2731  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW paid character transfer to cost $25 a pop on: June 23, 2006, 10:20:50 AM

This is only proper, but a lot of people (not surprisingly bored PVEers) hoped that paid server transfers meant PVEers could go to a PVP server and basically skip the gankathon treadmill.

Of course.  If they could do this, this would lower the amount of 1-59 people on PvP servers immensely.  No one likes the "gankathon treadmill".  IIRC, when this game came out, a ton of people from this board bitched about being ganked too much, which led them to quit or switch to a PvE server.  I'll admit it was bad at times, espicially before the introduction of BG's.

Anyways, I'm glad they restricted it.  I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, and I leveled a horde to 60 (horde is more difficult on a pvp server since there are a lot more bored alliance than bored horde imo.  I've leveled a war to 55 on alliance, and I definitely got ganked a ton more on the horde side).  If I can do it, almost anyone can do it.

As for the cost, it's not too bad.  If you want to change servers, it's worth it.  I know when I leveled up my priest, I never even thought of the timezone consideration.  But when I hit 60, I realized the server was on the west coast and i am on the east coast.  It made raiding quite difficult and probably why I inevitably stopped playing.  Good for me though.

The only time I download music is if it's a free sample off a band's website, MySpace, or PureVolume so I can check them out and decide for myself whether or not to buy the album.

Amen.  I used to download a couple songs to see if I liked the band's sound.  If I did, I bought the album.  If I didn't, I didn't buy the album.

Now, myspace and purevolume generally have around 5 different songs total that you can stream at a fairly decent quality.  It's legal and much easier.  I haven't downloaded a song in a long time (minus ones from iTunes).

As for the article, interesting.
2733  The Rest / General Discussions / The World Cup - do the Americans care? on: June 22, 2006, 03:02:35 PM
I'll be honest, I don't care so much.  I watched a game or two here and there.  It's not soccer, I just don't watch sports all that much with the exception of some college basketball and pro football.

However soccer is one hell of a good time to play.  I also played it till I was about 11 or 12 (my mom was kind of a soccer mom too).  If I find a random game playing this day that needs more people, I definitely jump in.
2734  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / WoW - 1.12 Coming Soon on: June 22, 2006, 02:42:35 PM

Incentive for world PVP's already in 1.11.  It's called, "Better honor at Light Hope's Chapel than grinding battlegrounds."  Man, we ganked so many suckers yesterday in-between owning crystals and getting raped by undocumented huge AQ40 boss changes.

What does killing the crystals do anyway?

Anyways, I quit WoW last week, finally cancelling my money drain account (barely played).  Once 1.2 hits, I may reinstall and reinstate.  We got a shitload of new transfers to our dead server (one of the reasons why i quit) and many major guilds transferred (such as "Fix Cthun or we quit" DnT).

From what I've heard, the cross realm BG system will absolutely rock if implemented flawlessly (chance of that happening, .001%).  This will absolutely rock in 60 BG's because it should limit 60 pug's in blues and greens verse epicced out guilds.  This should make for much more even matchups.  I can't see it doing that much in the 20-59 brackets except keep the levels closer to even on average.  What this should also do is limit stupid fucking forum bickering and eliminate topics as X guild rocks Y guild in BG since the group you face might be unheard of on your realm.  Better matches = less chances of other people afk'ing out.  I also wouldn't mind someway to fuck over the CP farmers who sit there and do nothing.  I am 99% sure nothing like this would be implemented, but it'd be nice.

The only thing I'm wondering about is exactly how will the bg's be implemented?  If I queue up, could I be thrown in with people from ANY realm?  Or will it be a bunch of people from my realm vs random people from another realm?  It'll be interesting to see.

World PvP might be nice.  I'll hold judgement until they release more information.  I wonder how this will effect normal servers, if at all, since they are always unflagged (everyone gets flagged when entering this area perhaps?).  Either way, it could be fun.  Seems like it would only effect 60's though.  Not much x<60 people could do against epicced out people.  I made a pre-made on the test realm and it taught me how much gear really matters.

As for the rogue review, I hope they don't get buffed too much.  I hate rogues (and i'm aware that 90% of the people on this forum play rogues). I wonder if it'll go back to being like back in the day when it felt like 20-25% of the realm pop were rogues.

If it is indeed ToD2 they are remaking (and not ToE), I will buy a psp just for it.  I always wanted to play it as well.

In addition, it was so liberating when I sold a shitload of my video games on Ebay.  Sure, part of it was so I could buy a bass amp, but it was great because then I felt like my monstrous backlog was no longer an obligation where I had to beat them all.  Gaming then became fun for me again, because it didn't feel like an obligation (and thus, like work.)

Yeah this actually helped me out a TON.  I had so many games that I needed to finsh that everytime I'd sit down to play something I'd feel like it wasn't fun, but more I was doing it just to get through it.  Hell I sold my cube and xbox and a good 90% of my PS2 games.  It felt real nice, I almost sold my PS2 but I'm glad I didn't cause I'm startin to get back into a few games.

yeah..  when i look at all the games come out in the fall, i'm kinda excited for them but at the same time not.  I still have DDS2 to finish (finally started making progress again) and Suikoden 5.  Grandia 3 is there too, but that's only if another one doesn't come out in time.

Right now, I wouldn't say it's a chore to play.  It's hard to get myself to sit down and PLAY, but once I do, I enjoy playing and have fun.  The only problem with this is that I don't make much time to play anymore.  In theory, I still like video games a lot.  It's just one of those things anymore where unless the game really grabs me, I seem to eventually ditch it (and maybe play later).

Actually, I'm starting to think this next console generation may force me to quit.  I cannot justify dropping that much money for anything but a Wii anymore with my current amount of gaming.  I guess we'll see.

hahahahaha.  really great.   wasn't expecting that.
2738  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Phantasy Star Universe stuff. on: May 17, 2006, 01:05:35 PM
I really didn't know why people were salivating over this game.

I played PSO v1.0 for a bit and wasn't that impressed, but I was only able to play it offline so i'm sure that's why.

After watching some of these videos... I can say I'm 10x more intrigued than before.  I shall be keeping a close eye on this game.  Maybe play with some of you 'Fanners that get the Jp/us release.
2739  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / World of Warcraft OH MY GOD CURRENT EVENTS THREAD on: May 13, 2006, 03:01:49 PM
is blind completely unresistable?  because last night i charged a rogue being a prick to others who was about 15 levels lower than me and he hit me with blind 2 / 2 times that night.  kinda pissed me off.  i hope it's not completely unresistable because that'd be fucking stupid.  if it's two of the same levels fighting it's one thing, but when a 55 war charges a 40 rogue, that's another thing.
2740  Site Related & More / RPGFan: Forums / Revealing spoilers - suggestion on: May 07, 2006, 12:11:50 PM
Well, probably my own fault.  Seems to happen with every fucking game i enjoy as of late - it gets spoiled somehow.

Anyway, whenever you search posts either by user or a topic, the spoiler box does not show up and cover the spoiler.

anyway to change that?
2741  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / World of Warcraft Battleplan Vol. 3 on: May 04, 2006, 01:21:40 PM

I hope one of those "certain restrictions" isn't disallowing you to move a character from a PvP server to a PvE one.  I bet it is, though.

i'm sure it will be, and i hope it is.  Not really fair to go from 1-60 on a pve server than switch to a pvp server.  i guess im slightly biased because i've never rolled on a pve server.
2742  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Oh Blizzard, Blizzard, Blizzard on: May 02, 2006, 02:45:56 PM
ah yes, THAT ability.  On my priest when I wasn't in an end game guild (but we had lots of 60's), we often did ZG.  We had 2 priests generally, me being 1.  So I do remember getting that ability a couple times.  Never found out it's name because I was too busy healing (we weren't that good =p).

When i actually went to an end game guild, i wasn't anywhere near main healer so i didnt ever get to see that or what it was.  interesting.  i see the problems it can create.

I see the problems for Shams too.  Since they're getting a review as well in the next patch, maybe that will help them out there as well.

edit:  It has to be getting nerfed when they do this.  It's a last tier talent for a reason.  They have to be putting it on a longer cooldown timer, nerfing the amount of mana regen, or something.

i personally enjoy how 50% of the time I go to the forums that anyone links to I get:

We're sorry but there has been an error with your request. Please try again later.

Mother fucking turtle.

therefore, i wish i knew what you guys are talking about.

edit:  Now I do, finally got access.

I really don't know what to say.  Maybe I didn't find the right post.  It's just that innervate is a regular druid ability (non talent) at 40, right?  Even though I've done some end game, I can't say i'm that familiar with them.  Our guild never had more than 2 druids on any run we did (maybe 3, i just missed?).  Just aren't that many on our server.  I wonder if this has anything to do with all the bitching and crying that was done when 1.1 was announced and all the druids and shaman cried "druids will be obsolete now!!1"

Okay, bumped cause of this.

Apple is making a nice smart decision here. They're easily going to have a 10% market share by end of 2008, methinks.

heh, this is funny because a few of my friends who know i like macs, emailed this to me through the course of the week.  they were so quick to hate on macs before, but now they're like.. "hmm.. they have some nice audio and visual editing software... maybe ill buy one now".

This crap is still going on? I stopped playing WoW more than six months ago (on EU servers admitedly), and one of the reasons I left was because of constant server problems. Login servers were down, zones crashed, the mail system wasn't working, characters got stuck in loot position and so on and so forth. Not to mention that each and every time there was a patch the servers would be down for a few hours more than planned. There were always some "emergency fix" that had to go in before they could start them up again.

Yep.  1.10 patch just went live almost 2 weeks.  Everything you described pretty much happened after the patch.  I'm guessing the weather had something to do with it, but I know shit about programming so it's only a guess.
