Freddie Wong does it again!  This was fantastic.

Well I'm pissed.  Just got word that Jmanga is closing.  Jmanga, in case you don't know, is a digital manga service started by the same people behind Crunchyroll.  Unlike Crunchyroll, however, it never really caught on.  Also unlike Crunchyroll (and this may have to do with the first part...) you didn't simply pay a subscription service to access all the content.  You had to actually buy individual titles.  They were cheaper than physical books, sure, but not that much cheaper.

I took a chance with the service because I thought it was a good idea (there's actually surprisingly little English manga available legally digitally) even though I always thought the pricy model was kind of wonky.  And here's my reward: when it shuts down on May 30th I won't be able to access any of the titles I purchased ever again.  And didn't purchase a small number of titles.  That's a fair chunk of change that's just been thrown down the drain.
Back to piracy, I guess.  It's more reliable.

Idk, I felt pretty manly watching Paine get dressed.

Manly != perverted

Remember when Sony was giving $10 free to use on PSN? Well, at first I didn't get anything but now after taking my eyes off my PS3 for one day I got it.

But I wanted to ask if this is the real thing, it has to say that it was send 'From *psn symbol* PSN' to be sure is real right? Because I have gotten spam about the same thing before in the past.

It's pretty weird that you wouldn't get it until now...but spam?  Is PSN spam even a thing?  I never got any kind of email about it when I got my $10, just showed up in my messages on PSN.  And anyway, the real thing is just a code that you can then redeem on the PSN store.  The worst they could do in spam is give you a bad code or something...I mean, you never have to go to a separate website or anything so it wouldn't work as a phishing attempt.

Parn, I don't get your beef with the controls.  Don't get me wrong, Nier definitely wasn't perfect.  I'd say the biggest issues were the reuse of environments, boring quests, and the combat was just way too easy.  But the controls?  The controls are bog standard.  I don't recall ever having an issue with the controls, even when I first picked it up.

Really though, these games are best served by LPs so I'm just going to go ahead and leave this here.

Are there LPs where people just shut up and play?  I've never been into the LP thing...tried it a couple of times and was completely turned off by the constant banal commentary...

I've never actually played a Drakengard game, but after Nier I'm intrigued.  Should I go back and play the first two?  Is the gameplay as bad as they say?

This is great:

(Though I have no idea why the video description calls it a prank...it's not a prank, it's science!)

Bonus round, Smeagol sings Mad World:

Listening to Modest Mouse, eating canned bread, drinking a Vitamin Water, making really bad My Little Pony/Commander Keen crossover comics in mspaint.

Definitely the canned bread.  I tried that stuff once and it was awful.

I finally finished Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time.  I don't play games very fast these days...how many months did that take me...oh well, guess I can dig something else out of the backlog pile now...

While there are a million things I can (and have) nitpick about the game, I did rather enjoy it overall.  Interesting story, fun and challenging (but sometimes cheap...) combat.  I enjoyed it when I wasn't raging at it...

This is some seriously cool stuff.

The game is free on PS+ right now (god damn PS+ is awesome) so I'm out of excuses not to get it...
2039  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ys: Memories of Celceta... on: March 09, 2013, 01:02:51 AM
Well if you get that Vita you can always play Ys Seven and Oath on it.  Just get them digitally.

But I have Seven and Oath. That's the reason why I want to get a PSP.

Well I'm not sure why you bought games for a system you don't own, but they're only $15 each on the PSN (and I'm pretty sure they've been on sale before for less than that before...), so it's probably cheaper to rebuy them than to buy a PSP just for those two games...

^ Agreed.

Three reasons I'll never travel to a big dense tropical rainforests:
(1) Raflessia are clearly a mistake made by god
(2) Cordyceps are the other ^
(3) By the time I'm done school and have a job that takes me places other than North America, the rain forests will be gone.

Isn't that the stuff that was the inspiration for The Last of Us?

Edit: Nothing to do with anything, but I found this interesting:
