In regards to the second point, the trailer at times 2:21 to 2:22 make my point if you will. And if that ain't a ganking than I do believe I've managed to spot an animation error.

That pinprick?  Really?  It's just a flesh wound.

I don't even know where to begin...I could say more, but here's a couple points:

First of all, there's no sign of a harem here.  The narration specifically says choosing between Toki and Towa, which is a love triangle at most (assuming they even count as different people...).  The other girls are barely even in the trailer and seem to be minor characters, so I don't know how you reached that conclusion.

Second, why do you keep going on about Toki/Towa being 'ganked'?  When does that happen?  Did I watch the same trailer as you...

Also, in regard to your last comment there's actually a very good chance this game is getting localized (my money's on NISA), though nothing has been announced officially.

I like that it's a modern setting, and the story/characters look and sound fantastic.

Seriously?  Look, I liked the (very brief) gameplay snippets we saw a while back, but the story and characters have never impressed me.  Noctis seems like everything I hate about Final Fantasy protagonists rolled into one.

Why do you need an excuse?

I don't see how the existence of this game in any way effects the probability of getting TitS: SC.  Mind you, the odds of that were already quite dismal.  But that doesn't have anything to do with Growlanser.

I'm calling it cycles because there's definitely going to be more than one trip into the past. Hell the trailer itself had two separate time traveling montages (one from the first where the prince got ganked and a second under less specific circumstances). And like in Majora's Mask, each time you see the phrase "Dawn of the First Day: 72 hr remaining." you're starting a new 3 day cycle. Seriously, this isn't moon logic here.

I'll grant you that there are two time travelling sequences in the trailer, the first with Toki in the bloody wedding dress and the second in plain clothes.  I still have no idea where you're getting cycles from.  In fact given that they apparenly take place under different cirumstances doesn't that speak against simple cycles?

And when you say "like in Majora's Mask"...what is like Majora's Mask?  Where is the common phrase here?  There's nothing like that.

Another aspect of the trailer that nobody seems to be mentioning is how it's pushing the romance aspect and talks about having to choose between Toki and Towa (wait, aren't they basically the same person...).  That seems like a weird direction to take things in.  There was one brief segment in the trailer (though I remember something similar from earlier screenshots) that almost looked like a dating sim.  But since the rest of the game seems to be from Toki/Towa's perspective...what's up with that?

IGN is reporting it...by linking to the Kotaku article.  Internet 'journalism' at work.

FFXII was good.  Not perfect, but a much better foundation to work from than FFXIII...

Framerate seems kind of low, but that's to be expected.

Not the framerate but rather the number of frames of animation.  Not really the same thing.

The running is awkward as heck at least in part because the way she runs is awkward as heck (i.e., artistic rather than technical problem).

They continue to refer to the guy as the protagonist, which is especially weird when they say (quite literally) that the protagonist is suddenly killed.  OK, so after that they talk about going back in time to prevent it, but it still seems to be entirely from Toki/Towa's perspective.

Battle is pretty much what I expected, which wasn't really high expectations.  Not really impressed.

Third; I still can't figure out if Launch is/are the only playable character(s) or not. It looks like she gets ganked in one cycle and I'd put money on somebody else taking over for gimmick/party building purposes.
Fourth; the plot. With the game borrowing the X day cycle mechanic from Majora's Mask, this leaves a couple of questions.

I have no idea what you're talking about with any of that.  First of all, who is Launch?  What's this about cycles?  They only mention going back in time once.

It's hard to believe S-E could keep this a secret.  I mean heck, they've announced games before they even started working on them.  They did kind of surprise us with FFXIV...and look how that turned out.

Well, I was looking at the official Tokitowa website to find something to disprove you but I ended up changing my tune instead.  See Exhibit A.  That's the character info page on the 'player'.  In the background behind him is clearly the head of the dragon Draeke (that's how they write it, though the katakana is clearly like 'Drake').  See Exhibit B.  So there must be some sort of connection.  Also Draeke's description is kept pretty vague, translating to something like, "The pet Draeke who is never apart from Toki even for a moment.  How did this creature become involved in the story?"  Which doesn't really answer anything, but all the other characters have reasonable explanations.

Most people think the prince became the dragon.

You said the same thing on Andriasang a while back and I didn't believe you then either!  In fact I've never heard this theory from anyone besides you.  Who are these 'most people'?

Er, LoGH is low-budget.  That's a fact.  It had a dedicated cult following but never exactly lit of sales charts.  Those 110 OVA episodes were released over the course of ten years (so roughly an episode a month), but that's only possible because they kept the budget in line with sales expectations.  It was truly a labor of love.

There may be worse looking titles out there but the stiffness and general lack of animation in this anime is undeniable.  And no, that's not just because of its age.  Plenty of contemporary titles were far more fluid.  Though to be fair, the quality of the animation in LoGH does improve as it goes along.

That said I still love it.  I did say it was my favorite anime of all time, after all.
2039  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Anime/Manga Journal on: July 18, 2012, 04:41:57 AM
I mentioned space operas because a couple of my all-time favorite animes are space operas and at their core I don't think they're really that different from some of the fantasy stuff that's been mentioned.  Space operas generally aren't about the technology itself so much as they are about using some far-future setting as a stage for human drama.

To be more specific, when I get asked what my favorite anime of all time (not just 'one of') is I usually answer Legend of the Galactic Heroes.  But when I think about what makes it that way the sci-fi part doesn't even enter the equation.  It's a truly epic (and I mean that term in a way that would truly pass Maddox's standards) tale of war and politics that draws inspiration from sources like Romance of the Three Kingdoms and 19th century Prussia.  It just happens to be set in space.

It's also really long, bombards the viewer with names of people and places, and suffers from some amazingly low-budget animation, so it can be challenging to get into.  But it's my favorite for a reason and I know a lot of people share that opinion.
2040  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What game related stuff do you collect? on: July 18, 2012, 02:00:09 AM
I'm like FlamingR1ft on this one.  There's no particular thing I collect, and yet somehow I have ended up with all sorts of junk.  I mean collectibles.
