Stfu, Canada is awesome.

And Victoria's just a $40 ferry ride away from Seattle, so. :P

You know, I should actually try doing that sometime...been in Seattle for almost 8 years now and I haven't made that trip.  I didn't realize it was that cheap.  It's like a 3 hour ferry ride, right?  Can you take bicycles on the Victoria Clipper?

So I'm seeing the claim being thrown around on various forums and things that the demo was based on a four month old build and was thrown together by a third party (while the main team continued to develop the game, presumably).  That would explain the bugginess but nobody is citing an actual source for this claim.  Does anyone here know anything about it?
2238  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Megaupload seized / shut down on: January 20, 2012, 09:08:50 PM
BitTorrent is used for plenty of legit things, so it falls to law enforcement to shut down the actual USERS. Megaupload doesnt have that kind of shield, unfortunately.

Megaupload certainly can (er...well...could) be used for plenty of legitimate things.  Whether it actually was or not is a different story.

Comparing it to Bittorrent silly, though.  Bittorrent is a protocol.  An open and well-documented protocol with many clients that use it.  The actual hosting of torrents is completely separate from development of the protocol and clients that use the protocol.  No single entity controls Bittorent.  You can shutdown sites that host torrents and go after users, but that's about it.  Saying 'shut down Bittorrent' is like saying 'shut down FTP'.  It doesn't make any sense.

I think you missed my point....I was saying that Megaupload is screwed and rightly so because everything passes through their hands. When the law comes knocking, and there's an entity they can go after, they go after it. When it comes to BT services, it's then on the users.

That's completely different from what you said before...you said Bittorrent has legitimate uses as a shield so law enforcement had to go after the users.  Now you're saying that the difference is the fact that Megaupload is a central entity to target.  Those are two completely different ideas.  The latter I agree with, but that's not what you said at all!  The quote is right there...

Given Namco Bandai's involvement that's kind of up in the air...

Crikey, I don't even remember.  I started ebaying before Paypal was a thing.  Had to send the seller your money order in the mail and they would wait until they got it before shipping!  Uphill both ways.  In the snow.

Get off my lawn you damn kids! ;)

game featuring harem building and Thousand Arms style combat (assuming that's what they're going for).

Um...what?  Are we just making up stuff to criticize the game for now?  How did we get from a married couple to harem building?  There haven't even been any other female characters mentioned yet.  And they haven't said a word about how combat works, just the visual style they're going for.

Er...neither of those sounds better to me...

I was actually being sarcastic with the first two, but I suppose my point didn't come across. Oh well.

It occured to me after the fact that might have been the case.  Makes me feel a little better :)

I really would like to see the third though.  We don't often see romance develop over years and years. Japan seems averse to aging characters sometimes, just look what happened with Rorona in Atelier Meruru.

I don't think that's really a fair characterization of Japan.  Sure younger characters are popular, but there are plenty of examples in anime and manga where characters get older.  You might even saw that's part of the appeal of younger characters (unless you're just a lolicon...).  It doesn't happen so much in games, perhaps, but that's more because most games don't take place over a period of years (recent Atelier games notwithstanding...).

The whole Rorona thing was kind of bizarre.  Didn't Gust do a poll (after it was too late to change anything) that showed that most people would actually have preferred to see the older Rorona?  I wouldn't jump to conclusions from one example.

The story turns me away immediately, but who knows, maybe they'll do something interesting with it. Like. . .He's married to another woman in every dimension and has to, er, dimension travel with a harem of women who claims to be his wives.
. . .Or something beyond "innocent young man gets molested by strong-willed girl who just so happens to be his wife."

Er...neither of those sounds better to me...

"You play as that prince whose marriage formed the Kingdom. You're 18 years old, and even though you're married, you still haven't had your first kiss. The prince is meant to be named by the player, although he does have a voice actor, Tsubasa Yonaga."
I'm all for light hearted JRPG's...but come on.

I don't normally bitch about these things (and I play lots of Japanese games...), but yeah...that was like the first detail they revealed about the game.  What the hell?

Man, a lot of people are noticing bugs.  This is pre-release code, but still...I hope they don't pull a Bethesda here.

I hardly think that complaining about the game being unvoiced is bitching or whining.  While I understand the reasoning behind it, it still sucks.
2248  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Kingdoms of Amalur on: January 18, 2012, 04:41:34 PM
Played the demo (on PS3), loved it.  Which is good 'cause I already preordered the limited edition...

The only bug I ran into was a problem with the conversation system.  After a point the audio just didn't play and as a result the text skipped by faster than you could possibly read it. Though loading a new area seemed to fix things (at least for a while).  It seems a friend of mine encountered the same problem with the PC version so it's not platform-specific.

Other than that bug I found it ran quite well.

I must confess, I didn't even know FFXII had random treasure chests until years after I beat it when I saw people on the internet bitching about it.

I mean what, do you guys play games with a guide in your lap or something?  I just played it through once and enjoyed it for what it was.  Something like reloading over and over to get the best loot out of some chest is something that never even would have occured to me.

I consider myself lucky if I even finish a game these days...
