2266  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Show Me The Games - Indie RPGs on sale (including Laxius Force III) on: November 15, 2011, 03:27:39 PM
Makes sense. The target is more people with some actual time of their hands, and a sheer liking of the superNES RPGs. It's definitely an involving game and for those people the value for the dollar is great, because the game does deliver in content and size without using of the notorious aforementioned cheap tricks.

See, I'm with Grim on this one.  I grew up with SNES RPGs and loved them back in the day, but that was when I was a kid with lots of time and little money.  Gaming hours per dollar is an important consideration then.  But now I can easily afford to buy any game that interests me but I don't have any time to play them.  I have games still in the shrinkwrap that I bought intending to play someday but never even got around to it.  This has changed what I look for in a game, too.  It's really easy to make a video game longer.  Through another wave of enemies at the player, increase the encounter rate, whatever.  But now that my time is the limiting factor in my gaming I have very little tolerance for that BS.  I want to be doing something fun and different, not grinding my way through the same old enemies that I already know how to defeat.  I haven't seen any 100 hour game that actualy spent the majority of its time introducing new ideas or telling a story...

This has been a general rant and is not specifically directed at any of your games since I haven't played them.

You play Modern Warfare for the story?

I must shamefully admit that I am hooked on The Idolm@ster 2.  I haven't had any previous experience with the series but I decided to pick up the PS3 version when it came out.  It's actually a really fun game.  The best I can describe it is as a combination of a business simulation, visual novel, and rhythm game, if that makes any sense...

Whatever else you might think of Subway, I don't see how you can call them overpriced.  Where else can you get a foot long sub for $5?

They need to make a spy RPG that doesn't suck.

Eidos Montreal did that, pretty much.

UMD passport program outlined.

This is pretty cool.  Too bad they didn't put it together in time for the Go.

I hope Type-0 comes out here...

I've heard some murmurings that there is going to be a Vita version of this game?  Would be a cool title to have on the go.

I must confess that I've never played a Rayman game before, but this looks seriously good.
2275  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: PSP PSN RPG downloads on: November 09, 2011, 03:20:48 PM
I mean if the psp machine fails I guess your out of luck with a umd copy but a psn download you could play on both the psp and ps3 if I understand that correctly.

I don't know where you got that idea, but it's completely false (though I bet a lot of people wish it were true).  The only games that work on both the PSP and PS3 and PSOne Classics and Minis.  PSP games are PSP-only, whether they be UMD or download versions.  Though download versions will work with the Vita.

Urge to buy Zero no Kiseki rising... must resist.

How good is your Japanese?  I have thought about it myself, but there is a ton of text in those games.  And it's not exactly light and fluffy text either.  Even though I have successfully played through (and mostly understood, even) a few RPGs in Japanese I just don't think my skills are on that level yet...

Yeah, I live in the US and frequently buy stuff from the JP PSN.

Think OP meant Tides of Destiny for thread title.. I was about to make a new thread.

'Oceans' is the original Japanese subtitle and this thread was started before an internation release was even confirmed, so...

Why is it so fucking hard to vote in America?

- Can't actually vote on election day because I don't work anywhere /near/ my precinct.
- Can't vote early because the polling stations are closed on the weekend.
- Absentee ballot I requested never came.

In Washington state all ballots are mail-in.  If you are registered to vote they just automatically send you a ballot weeks before the election.  It's so convenient...I don't know why more states don't do this
