My tablet PC has a keyboard.  I use it pretty much just like a laptop, except I can pop the top off, lean back, and watch a movie on it or read a book or something.

I'm not too crazy on the date-by-date thing and face "face cut in"... feels too much like a tacked-on throw-back.

Personally I loved those little touches.  Seems like perfectly harmless fanservice (in the broader sense of the term).

Rogue-likes are RPGs.

I agree.  I'm surprised this is even in dispute.

Now, not having actually played the game in question I don't know how much it follows the typical roguelike conventions.

None of these are two player, sorry, but here are some of my favorites:

Settlers of Catan.  Yeah, it's practically mainstream by now but still worth mentioning.  It's well-known for a reason: it's a seriously good game.

Carcassonne.  Tile-based crazy city-building game.  Very simple to play but with a lot of depth.  Actually I think you can play this with two players, but it's better with more.

Dominion.  A neat card-based (non-collectable) game that's actually several games in one.  Sure the objective is always the same but you chose a subset of the cards to use in any given game and the choice can change the winning strategy significantly.

Yeah, the difficulty in Oblivion was really broken.  If you didn't level up in exactly the right way (or just increase your skills but never level up at all like I know some people did...) then the game could become ridiculously difficult, making the slider practically a necessity.

I have never eaten Lunchables.  Those things look seriously gross.

I feel like a complete idiot for having to ask this, but where do I find Sterk to hire him?  I should note that I have already gotten the message saying that I can hire him, I just don't know where he actually is.  You have to talk to somebody to add them to your party and I've looked all over both towns and don't see Sterk anywhere...

I downloaded the multiplayer thingy but I haven't actually played it yet since I've been playing Totori.  But if you want to do some sort of clan thing then sure, that sounds fun.  I am Kevadu on PSN as well.

No, they don't.

Are you saying that returning characters don't change or were you replying to Lard?
2545  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Totorie, Alchemist of Arland 2 announced for the PS3 on: October 07, 2011, 08:20:09 PM
Not at all, Lard.  At least not other than a few recurring themes that are in all the Atelier games (like Pamela).

Yeah, and cables exist in 4-dimensional space.

I played for a while today.  It certainly feels a lot like Rorona but it's much more refined.  I do like that getting license points pretty much requires engaging in a wide range of activities.  In Rorona I would figure out what requests were the easiest to complete and spam the heck out of them (and I 100%ed everyone on my first playthrough by doing that).  I also feel like the game emphasizes adventuring (healing, bombs, etc) items a lot more.  Other than perhaps a couple of the boss fights you could basically get through Rorona without ever using them.  In Totori you're going to at least make sure you have healing items on hand because (at least this point in the game) nobody else has healing skills.

Anyway, enough comparisons to Rorona.  The game is a lot of fun.  You had better like doing sidequests, though, because in some sense that's all that this game is.

An aside, but regarding the pre-order bonuses:  Since when has a tiny 30 page pamphlet qualified as an 'artbook'?  I've noticed this trend a lot lately and I don't like it.  It's worse than the Catherine 'artbook' and certainly nothing like the gorgeous hard-cover book I got with Rorona (which admittedly doesn't have a lot of pages either, but at least they're bigger pages).

Sorry, it's hard to pick up sarcasm in text.

There's a...really subtle Three Kingdoms influence on this work

There's nothing subtle about it.  It's quite blatant.

Kevadu: You're dead wrong about no internet pushing. I've done a fair shair of professional web design and server-side programming, so I can say from first hand experience that not only CAN the web push data, it does it on sites that you go every day. Every Google page except for the blank search page features up-to-the-minute auto refresh, statistical updates, and advertisements. Rotating ad bar? Rotating News articles on most default home pages? That's server-side data transfer.  AJAX is everywhere, and it's only going to grow. Hell, we do it on our tiny little TV station website. It's completely geddo and does full page refreshes instead of targeted images, but it's there.

Google, Yahoo, MSN, CNN, hell, any news site. Facebook, My Space... gotta get your instant message to the user immediately! Then you get all the lowly blog sites scrambling for web advertising, the warez sites, the porn sites, the seedy side of the internet, it gets even worse there! You're getting pushed data on more sites than not.

I never said you can't do server-side pushing of content.  I know damn well how to do it.  What I said is that the vast majority of sites don't do it and it's a feature that the web was never really designed for.  Maybe I'm just highly biased in my selection of sites since I wouldn't touch shit like Facebook with a 10ft pole, but there are very few sites that I use that do that sort of thing.  Google sites are about the only ones I can think of, and they generally do it for good reasons.  In any event, if there is a site that would eat up those sort of resources and you know you're not going to be using it for a while then how hard is it to close that window, really?  I'm sure as heck not going to be leaving porn sites open anyway...

The bottom line is that I have a device that does exactly what you claimed would be a 'DISASTER' and it works just fine, thank you.

I am aware that the trend has been to dumb down devices for the lowest common denominator, I'm just not happy about it.  As long as there are options out there for more capable users I will support them.  Unfortunately it doesn't look like Nokia is ever going to make another device like this (well, they were and then that horrible deal with Microsoft happened...), so I have no idea what I will eventually replace it with...
