You forgot that Sony Smash Bros. disappointed with only the most obvious reveals of Nathan Drake and Big Daddy.

Big Daddy was hardly obvious...

Anyway, here's the Watch Dogs announcement footage in case you missed Ubisoft's conference.  Holy crap that is awesome.  Easily the best thing we've seen yet at this E3.  Watch the trailer, descriptions do not do it justice.

Sony had some good stuff, but man nothing was really new.  Well,  it was our first look at Beyond, that was pretty cool, but that's it.  I was really hoping for some sort of surprise.  I'm not counting the book because I've stricken it from my memory.  Didn't happen.

Tomb Raider gameplay from MS conference.

Different part of the game than was shown in the pre-E3 trailer.  I've got to say this game is looking really good.  I haven't cared about a Tomb Raider game in a loooong time, but I might just get this one.  The Uncharted influence is obvious, but then it's a natural thing to copy from.  I also like the emphasis on the bow and arrow and environmental destruction rather than more traditional gunplay.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy E3 Trailer

Nothing really new, but it shows off a nice song selection.

I missed the MS conference but from what I'm reading it was just a bunch of we-paid-company-X-to-do-DLC-on-our-platform-first announcements (we're seriously still doing this shit?).  On, and Halo 4.  I'm sure that will sell a bajillion copies but I certainly don't care.

Edit: OK, back to the point of this thread.  The South Park trailer actually looks kind of fun, and I'm not crazy about the show.

Well maybe it's just me but the right stick placement is my favorite part.  I've been wishing somebody would make a controller like that for years.  I hate the asymmetric design of the 360 pad.  There's nothing natural about it.  Most games these days have your thumbs spending most of their time on the sticks.  Both sticks.  In a 1st or 3rd person action game I'm constantly using the camera control, only moving my thumb off the stick for the occasional special action.  Of course the equation changes for different kinds of games, but I think in general the sticks are the most-used part of the controller.  They deserve to be front-and-center.

The new pro controller looks fantastic.  I think it's one of the nicest looking controllers I've ever soon.  So why the heck is everyone freaking out about it?
2543  The Rest / General Discussions / Game Genie on PS3?! on: June 03, 2012, 04:11:03 PM

I don't know about you guys, but if this thing actually works I would get it just to download saves that let me see alternate endings and stuff.  I don't have time to play through games multiple times...

Though I don't know what this means for trophies.

There's already a ton of stuff leaking out before E3--and I'm sure there's more to come--so I figured I would make this thread just to keep track of it all.  In no particular order:

Ni no Kuni

Tomb Raider

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Quantum Conundrum

Anything else of interested been shown yet?

I'm just hoping it's not another ToS2.

ToS2 was a spin-off title done 5 years later by a different team.  It's not even considered a mothership Tales game.  I just don't see the comparison.  Tales of Destiny 2 (the real one, not the renamed Eternia...) seems like a more relevant comparison, and that's one of the more highly-regarded Tales games.

I'm not quite sure what to think.  Here's a link, by the way.

QTEs confirmed!

How on earth did you conclude that?  There's not a hint of an inkling of QTEs in combat.  It does say you can make decisions during story sequences by pressing L1 or R1, but there's nothing about it requiring fast timing.  Even if there is some kind of time limit you're still talking about pressing one of two buttons a single time, not a long sequence using a variety of inputs (which is what a QTE is to me...).  That's more like making a decision in a VN under time pressure (which plenty of VNs have).  Anyway, this is all speculation.  They haven't said that there's a time limit at all, nor do we know how common these decision points are.  But regardless it doesn't sound anything like QTEs to me...

Some people seem eager to completely dismiss this game for some reason...

Edit: OK, I found a full trailer that shows off one of these decision points.  There is a timer but it's exactly as I said, a timed choice not a QTE.  You have a full twelve seconds to decide to press one of two buttons (and I seriously doubt that pressing something besides L1 or R1 does anything).  If that's a QTE then I'm a sheep farmer.

By the way, the trailer is interesting for other reasons.  Check it out.

(If you laugh at this it says a lot about you as a person).

Am I the only one who thought Naughty Dog?  As in the game developer...

My limited edition arrived today.  Barrel!

I have to say, though, that even as cheap pack-in art books go, the art book included in this limited edition is seriously flimsy.  I think the manual might be thicker than it...
2549  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust announces new Atelier game: Atelier Meruru on: May 30, 2012, 04:37:13 PM
Well, I think Totori was a big improvement over Rorona.  It's better balanced, flows better, and has a much bigger adventuring aspect.  I haven't played Meruru yet, but from what I've read it's not nearly as big a change.  In fact a lot of people seem to like Totori more.

So if you don't like Rorona there's no need to force your way through it, but you should at least give Totori a shot.

That image looks very Shadowrun.  I know that there is already that kickstarter project so it doesn't seem very likely but it's still the first thing I thought.

Man, I would really like a non-terrible Shadowrun game.  Last one we got was on the SNES for crying out loud (and even that one played pretty fast and loose with the rules, though it was mostly true to the setting).
